Good morning all,

Dull here at the moment but hopefully there will be some sunny spells later.

Today's overnight aches are not quite as bad as the last few days so maybe there is hope for me yet.

Another walk is scheduled followed by either car washing, jet washing or shed wash pottering. Not yet sure which but the latter is favourite as far as I'm concerned.

Later there will be the delights of unpacking a Sainsbury's delivery and marvelling at the contents therein.

This evening I suspect there will be catch up time with family on Zoom.

About to set off on driving duties for the LAS.  But my BT Internet account has locked up, I can log in, then the top bar shows "WebMail" and nothing has happened for an hour.  Any ideas?  I'm running Windows 7 on an ancient PC.

The large West Riding of Yorkshire sign (dwarfing the politically {geographically} correct Lancashire one) always used to amuse me when I drove the B28 Burnley to Barnoldswick bus service during my stint of being a part time driver for the erstwhile company Border Buses

The West Riding got split up all over the place in 74. I joined the West Yorkshire Constabulary in November 73 from Settle. On our induction course we were asked which force we wanted to end up in in April 74. We were offerred the choice of , North Yorkshire, Humberside, South Yorkshire, Derbyshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cumbria and of course West Yorkshire. For some obscure reason no one wanted to go to Lancashire.

Good moaning to all.  Time to kick Samedi into gear.  We are due to video call Rachel and family soon then have to take some plant pots to a friend as part of our plant barter.  Hopefully the day will warm up and the mower will start then I can get the rest of the grass cut.  Not a lot else to report.

Having the traditional lazy start to the day with muggocoffee in bed, the promise of a bacon butty in due course, and the grand opening of cards and presents about to take place. 

 

Looks as though the long-standing period of blue skies and sunshine has passed as North Hipposhire is this morning grey and cloudy but I suppose the possibility of rain will be welcomed by gardeners. Not that the state of the weather will affect a day in the workshop

Good morning and happy birthday to Mr Hunt. Skies here are also cloudy, just as they were yesterday morning and the dullness burnt off by late morning so hopefully you can enjoy a spot of garden sitting and being waited upon - you need to build up strength for the 74th revolution.

 

And now to matters NEHertfordshire. Electric string did not make an appearance so sections of Kingzance remain dormant. Re-wheeled clerestories will be run in rakes so I feel I can avoid excessive (and possibly fatal) butchering thereof. A good run round curves, up and down inclines and across turnouts will see if I am correct but to achieve that, see earlier in this paragraph. A stroll round the village was accomplished, a few people were met and non “soto voce” conversations ensued from correct distances. Mussels were enjoyed, although the French Fries tasted a little stale. A virtual meeting on the subject of flash photography was joined and the evening ended with a decent dram of something from The Black Isle.

 

Today will include a further walk, collection of fresh lamb, bacon and eggs from my nearby farm, milk from our village store and running a quiz this evening. Stocks of Scottish falling down water are getting dangerously low so some research in that field may be required. That may be enough grabbing of Saturday as I don’t wish to get near any short and curlies. Stay safe and be good.

Today will involve more lawn cutting and preparing a bed to plant pea seeds in.  I will probably hold off actually planting them until we have had some rain, as the ground is too dry just now, and I can’t recall that ever happening in April before.

 

Nosy neighbours caused us some annoyance this morning, by letting their dogs out at about 6.30, only for one to then just bark for ages.  This happens quite a lot, and it seems to me that the poor thing is simply bored.  It wanders around their garden barking in what appears to be an aimless fashion.  I have never actually heard them trying to quieten it down at all.

Morning awl from a rather overcast Bedfordshire.

 

It's been a tough week. People are feeling the pressure and it's starting to show. I'm fortunate I live alone and spent chunks of my career working by myself and/or from home. In that sense, this "new way of working" hasn't been that disruptive for me.

 

For others it's not so easy. They're now cooped up 24/7 (hopefully not 365) with a houseful. Work meetings are rearranged at short notice. Often they are interrupted by colleagues' offspring as two working parents try and sometimes fail, to dovetail work and childcare commitments.  You can see the strain on their faces. A couple of times this week I've found myself having to help emotional colleagues try and regain some perspective.

 

This weekend I must try and get some exercise. I haven't even managed a "Hancock's One Hour" although a couple of socially distanced chats with my neighbour in the glorious sunshine has topped up the Vitamin D. A Sainsbury's foray earlier this week was unbelievably easy. No queue and I got everything I wanted - even a special offer on something I didn't need immediately but would normally buy.

 

Last week I took a chance on a couple of e*ay job lots. They arrived on Wednesday and first impressions are I've had a result. I'll trade my way out of what I don't want and with any luck and a bit of fettling, what I do want will be virtually free.

I am also looking at The Whisky Exchange, a company that I have used in the past and they stock certain medicinal fluids that soothe my harried soul. And now I’m totally confused as our Fraggle Rock correspondent is suggesting I may like to send some of my meagre funds in his direction too - choices, choices (and I’ll never make the right one either)!

My sympathies Simon, I have exactly the same problem near me. Despite being on the edge of Luton, where I live is very quiet - quieter than many villages - and this was before lockdown. Sometimes you can literally hear a pin drop. A dog of the small yappy variety, moved in a few months ago to an adjacent road. I suspect it's the same house that likes to share its taste in music and have loud, bellowing conversations even when they're not social distancing. It appears at random times of the day and night, barking at everything and nothing. No attempt is made to quieten it down, despite the very audible shouts from me and other neighbours.
