Brian,  can I suggest that the groove you have is too loose for an accurate stop for the turntable. It needs to have a sharper "stop" position and "finger". 

 

Il dottore.. i set myself deadlines ..it helps to keep me focussed.

 

NVQs.. you have to get one to become a competent fireman. The fact that it varies from place to place is not good... back to my suggestion we need one service not multiple county based ones.

 

Well, the sun is shining but it is fairly chilly so I need to brew our mugsatea.

Anyway, good moaning from The Charente day 30 of lockdown. Not a lot planned for today but Morning Orders haven't  been posted yet.  

 

Mention of folk music is interesting. When I was doing my Beer and young ladies 101 aka my unsuccessful year at University, Steeleye Span and one or two other such groups came to play. I was 't impressed with the 20 minute tuning up sessions and singing with their hands over their ears. This compared to The Hollies, who were into their first number within seconds of getting on stage. However none of them held a candle to the free concert I missed a morning of lectures to go and hear.  That was Paul McCartney and Wings playing their first ever gig. Rough in places and they ran out of material so they repeated the set, then played rock and roll standards. Absolutely  out of this world.

Ben the very happy Collie reappeared this morning,  charging around the very frosty garden,   I took a diversion , to a small room in the MhRC.  He didn't notice as he was happily sniffing around.  When i came  out,  he was down by the house,  sitting bolt up right,  "where did you go? " he said disapprovingly. 

 

He's just had some of my breakfast BLT,  and is now asleep in his bed.

Reading ChrisF's post, we are now due a reund form the cancelled NMRA convention in St Louis. Unfortunately there is $10 refund charge as thats what their payment provider wants plus the exchange rate on the credit card and also they were looking for donations to help them out of all the costs incurred so have offered them a few $ towards that but at least there will be osmeothing back - it was over $200 for me and my other half for registration of the event.

 

Been digging in next doors garden at dusk - removing broken paving and edging in the middle of their lawn to help tidy it up for them and use under their fence panels that were partially buried in the ground. It helps them and us in preserving the fence panels that are still in place as he wont be well enough anytime soon (if at all) to be able ot do this. Then into the shed for a cup of tea and sort out the  pickups in the tender of 3409 'City of Wells'. All tested ( a broken wire) and now back in its box on the shelf in the house. 'Swanage' and 'Salisbury' next to have a run in the shed.

 

However I need to take Mums food to her and swap cars as the old Probe (normally kept at Mums) that is now 25 this month, hasnt had a run for a few weeks. I will also go to the chemists near her to get my prescripion.  Last week there was a small queue at opening os shouldnt be to long a wait.

Greetings all from the boring borough. Day 32 of Alcatraz. Not bothering me really as we have a garden, I have my shed, and I'm home during the week any way. Just fancy a long drive and a country pub lunch. 

 

People are starting to get a bit shack-wacky from what I can see. Robert's tales of impatient customers. SWMBO's tribulations yesterday in Horrorsons, my son ready to go full cuntcon 1 on his customers as they are turning into complete hoofw*nking bunglec*nts. (his words, he has learned well) 

 

Today I shall be mostly fighting with Just Eat for a missing refund over a cancelled order. Asshats. Then to try and cancel our BT landline as it serves no purpose anymore since the MiL finally discovered the joys of Whatsapp.

 

Another delivery from our favourite Dutch brouwerij is expected some time today. Many of the beers are in the double digit abv range. Getting them while I can since this time next year they will be subject to duty, VAT, & processing charge. 

 

addendum: said brouwerij has had to cancel their fest at the end of May. Since we had bought early bird (err Uiltje) tickets we were offered a refund or...... we could have 2 cases of the beer they were making especially for the fest. So now we will have 48 cans of a one off limited edition double IPA headed our way at the end of next month. Still waiting for Eurostar and captain obvious to open their refund windows for bookings past May 1.

Good morning everyone 

 

The sun is shining again, but it’s cool, just 2C at the moment. Breakfast has been consumed and shortly I’ll be heading off to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix and collect a couple of prescriptions from the chemist. After that I’ll keep out of the way whilst Sheila is using the kitchen. After dinner I’ll make another small batch of almond scones. 

 

Baz. I initially had a sharp dip for the roller but that made it difficult to lift once in, so the slopes were added to ease this. The speed of the turntable is approximately 1rpm, so speed isn’t really important, it’s the accuracy of the operating position. The spring is a bit too strong but it’s all I have to hand at the moment, so I might try a different variation of the same thing on Friday. 

 

Stay safe, stay sane, enjoy whatever you have planned for the day, back later.

Good morning all,

Nice and sunny outside.  It should be fine, dry and a bit warmer than the last couple of days with temperatures reaching 17°C.

I managed a couple of destructive and then productive hours in The Shed yesterday. Some track removed and then a point and siding all inserted so I now have the beginnings of a goods yard. I will try another visit there today. I think little and often is the way (for me) to go.

I requested a prescription online from the doctor on Monday who will transmit it to the pharmacy. I've now got to phone the pharmacy to request a delivery. (There seems to be no facility to ask for delivery online).  This could take some time as phone calls are not being answered very often.  They normally have 10-12 assistants but on Saturday they were down to 6 and the queue outside took over an hour to get dealt with according to my neighbour so I can't really ask anyone to collect it for me.

Good morning one and all. So as not to disappoint our Muddy Hollow correspondent I will start by reporting that North Hipposhire is once more bright and sunny with some high level cirrus in evidence but no sign of adverse conditions.

 

Yesterday SWMBO set about some serious G-word activity so I sloped off to do some serious M-word stuff but after a while  was brought out as there was some hedge trimming that required my longer reach. Then I was directed towards some online purchasing and other activity that required my expertise (!!??)  and during an incautious moment I offered to prepare dinner. The up side to all that, however, was that my brownie point account increased sufficiently to allow some more M-word activity but my enthusiasm obviously got the better of me as I have just realised that I made a basic planning error and what I thought I had achieved now needs re-doing. Ah, well, all part of life's rich pageant I suppose.

 

As for today, once muggocoffee No. 2 is finished there are no immediate plans but I shall apply myself to considering how to Baz Wednesday. And doubtless there will be some routine orders requiring my attention.

Morning, weather here similar to sarfeest Manchester, cold and cloudless. A clear day is anticipated but I suspect me getting out my 10” whopper (stop smirking at the back boy!) in readiness for darkness will presage the appearance of clouds tonight when I want to capture a series of aligned planets.

 

I have followed the discussions on using micro switches and dedents on turntables and wonder if the contributors may wish to consider using the other connection on the V3 micro switch and an addent from the turntable to operate it. I make this suggestion as a bump fastened onto the disc can be repositioned far more accurately than can a hollow!

 

Yesterday I bemoaned the fact that it was the third Tuesday without fresh fish. My whinge was premature as Ian rocked up with some nice fresh fish and Crustacea so a paella was created and demolished last night and I have other delights for a fishy dish tomorrow too; meanwhile SWMBO had her normal plaice fillet. Both Ian and I hope normal service can be resumed. Yesterday’s other intended activities were only partly successful as nothing unmentionable was achieved but a second sowing of herbs was made in the raised bed. Today I hope for some successful in matching endeavours to targets but I shall also be tasked with manicuring the green sward (ours is presently without any lion’s teeth). It is possible that our wine merchant with regal pretensions may also make a delivery today or tomorrow as stocks of coloured fermented juice are getting rather low and I have been unable to locate the tunnel that must be connected to the cellars of some other ERs known to enjoy a libation or three. After all, I couldn’t possibly be drinking that much myself! 
 

Thoughts are with any affected by WuFlu. We lost another friend yesterday although she did have some underlying health issue. Sadly she leaves her husband and a mid-teenaged son who was very much attached to her. Given her existing conditions, they had tried to isolate to minimise risk but all acquired the bug. Be careful if venturing out people!

In other news I was awoken this morning (early like about 0330) by blue flashing lights just outside the perimeter.

 

An unmarked police car had stopped a Landrover, the driver of which was being questioned outside the vehicle.

 

Since the driver was soon on his way and not been clapped in irons, I suspect it was a stop to find out why one would be driving  around at that time of the morning, during the lock down period.

 

Judging by the number of farms and small holding in the area, I'd suggest it was someone involved in the various agricultural activities which do go on 24/7.

Morning all,

 

And the sun shineth and the scrambling of eggs is underway by the catering dept so I'll no doubt be called shortly to supervise carry out toast preparation.

 

Having had/yet to bank some considerable refunds of items various I can understand Chrisf's feelings.  Only trouble is here that it's all going in the joint account - not mine. (but it did come out of the joint account so fair's far I s'pose).  And now with brekkie duly consumed and today's third muggatea to hand I shall continue.  If Flavio thinks Downton went all soapie he ain't seen nothing yet and should, in fear and trepidation, await the arrival of 'Belgravia' - Baron Fellowes latest creation complete with a 19th century upper(ish) crust version of the Mitchell family (out of 'Eastenders').   I really can't decide if it's truly bad or simply indifferent but in theatrical terms a Downton successor it ain't despite several excellent cast members.

 

Talk of 'Belgravia' takes me, via a sidestep due to a shared cast member (Tamsin Greig),  to 'The Archers' where Roy and Oliver are voicing some very pertinent thoughts and a big question about the cause of the fire at Grey Gables.  Will the current stock of virus free recordings last long enough to see the dodgy Welsh builder finally nailed, will Blake breakdown in a further police interview?  But most importantly of all who will win the Easter Bonnet competition when Easter finally reaches Ambridge?   And none of it will get on the rubbish that is tv news, something I have avoided watching for well over a year due to its previous wall-to-wall Brexshite splutterings now being superseded by dawn-to-dusk covid-19 splutterings and a new posse of commentators know-alls and former sperts.

 

Hmm, once muggatea four has been downed I think I shall proceed to G word activities.  BTW Dom is active on Farcebook although it's mainly re-posts (might be auto???)
