RMweb Premium TheQ Posted April 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Afternoon awl, I can safely say the dinner cooking in the kitchen will be entirely conventional.. Today's work, in order of appearance. Cut 32 1ft batten sections, luckily the whole battens were bought when they were 8ft not the 2400mm many are now. SWMBO has now painted one side and edges the other side tomorrow.. Keel bolt holes resined Roof cleared of Ivy for another 6 "furrows" it was noticeable that the wind was cool as a true southerly comes over the sea to us here on the sticky out bum of Britain. It was also noticeable there were police in the area, something very rare, I'm guessing chasing non locals off the beach.. Talking of which my sisters boss has been a naughty girl, she's been photographed visiting her second home..... Not good if you're the chief medical officer of Scotland.. Keel second side skin fitted and glued. Now sitting there overnight with many clamps round the edges and several heavy items down the middle.. The minor changes to the roads on the layout were done, then more varnish applied. At one point I got really worried as the rocks looked like they had been dipped in plastic. However an hour later it had soaked in and looked a lot better, it will be interesting to see how it looks fully dried out tomorrow. Dinner was conventional, pork chop, peas and swede. It is quite good for restraining folk. I suspect that the Asp that the Met use could inflict some pain. The old style truncheon however was designed to hurt and was a very useful weapon. I was once attacked in a house by 4 people and took the instant decision to use reasonable force and hit the nearest one as hard as I could. It caught him on his head and he went straight down with his eyes rolling up like a Tom and Jerry cartoon. Peace broke out instantly and the other 3 decided to back off. No complaints, the lad went down for 2 years for assaulting me and I got a commend from the judge. I suspect things might be a little different nowadays. Happy days. Q: What's the difference between a policeman's truncheon and a magic wand? A: A magic wand is for cunning stunts. 1

There have been quite enough puddings being brought up around here of late. Do you expect the Mods to be along to scrape the coagulated remains off the floor?

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted April 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2020 in Turkey on Business once we ate in a Restaurant in the Citadel in Ankara. We had a mixed grill. It came with chopped up red and green things (chilies) and part of the main course was cat..A bit strong but texture wise just like lamb. In contrast we had Fajitas for tea. Very nice sculpted by my own delicate hands. Got some gardening done. It was nowhere near the temperature forecasted by the weather team. Pah! Odd bits and bats managed but now need to catch up with some paperwork. Baz
RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted April 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2020 At primary school in the early 70's we used have something called "Swiss Egg", which was basically hard boiled egg in cheese sauce. Absolutely fantastic. However, though my mum tried endless attempts at getting the same taste they all proved futile - still good though. I wish I knew what the secret ingredient or technique was.

But why is it always mixed with diced carrots. The cheese pudding sounds like a variation on what I loved at home and still make, curried eggs. Hard boiled eggs, quartered and put on bttered toast with curry sauce poured over them. My mum used to make them and they were lovely. Beth detests them but No2 son always asked for them if Beth was out. Jamie 15

My mum used to make something we called 'man in the moon'. Mashed potato, grated cheese and an egg to bind it, cooked in a frying pan like a thick pancake. Since it was round, and had bits of melted cheese showing in the surface, we thought it looked like the surface of the moon. (And no, she did not use green cheese!) 11 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted April 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 5, 2020 (edited) Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Dinner is on the go, a 'TV dinner' of roast chicken with all the trimmings, and it only cost me 44p. I found it yesterday in the 'reduced to clear' freezer cabinet suffering from a battered box. Forty plus years ago I visited some German friends, Hans and Gudrun. Gudrun hailed from the Black Forest and done her own baking, including Black Forest Gateau, I've never tasted one as good as since. The microwave has just pinged so its time for dinner. Black forest cake. I have shared earlier a memory of a black forest cake made by the (then) adult daughter of my mum's best friend. That cake was sublime. Time moves on. That young woman, now well into her 60s, is now trying to convince her nonagenarian mum that it is time for assisted living, though that might be delayed until after the current emergency. Popular Post Erichill16
Evening everyone, Day much as expected but not as warm as I expected. Did some gardening, well mostly weeding and at lunchtime sneaked into shed to spay a coat of paint on a rake of wagons I’ve been threatening to paint for the last goodness knows how long. Not a bad finish, ok for wagons that will get a good weathering but not sure if I’d be too pleased if it was for a top link loco, but then again I would have spent more time in preparation. Problem is I still haven’t done anything with the two wheelie bins full of putrefying grass from last weekend. Should have taken done the garden to compost bin. When green liquid starts seeping from the bins I’ll know I should have done it sooner. Maybe tomorrow. Im a faddy eater but I don’t waste my food. regards and best wishes, Robert 19

Duly noted (and added) I wonder, however, how we (as a species) can/could differentiate between “we can eat it and it’s safe to eat” and “we can eat it, but it’s not safe to eat” I think it might at times be difficult to either tell or decide (domestic food animals also can carry diseases that can jump species). Becoming a vegetarian is no guarantee of food safety - most of the most potent toxins in the world are plant alkaloids. Other plant foodstuffs, like candlenuts, are toxic unless prepared properly and cooked well. As an aside, I often wonder how our ancestors managed to figure out what is safe to eat. Presumably primitive man observe what the animals were eating (although this is not a 100% reliable guide, as some animals can harmlessly eat toxins that will lay us flat in seconds). Given the nature of our species, I would presume that primitive societies had reasonably generous supplies of expendable elderly upon which they could test various foodstuffs for toxicity and harm. And all that provocative and cheery note, I bid you all a good night. iD 17 1
