I have found some correlation between "brown spirits" and disturbing dreams, though not exclusively so. There certainly is a history of serious quakes in the area and that's to be expected due to tectonic action or vulcanism. I think the point was that they are not associated with a known fault that's visible on the surface like, for example, the San Andreas. 4
Ozexpatriate
I lived in Southern California from 1986 to 1991. While in California I experienced many earthquakes - more than I can recall. The first was in late 1986 (I think) when I started dreaming that someone was standing at the foot of the bed pushing it back and forth with one foot. It took a while for me to wake up and realize that it was an earthquake. In 1989 I experienced a quake (4.6) on the Newport-Inglewood fault. I was at work, very close to the epicenter and visually observed a vertical steel "I" beam (about two feet wide) displaced by about ±3 inches at ceiling height. A visible ripple shot through the ceiling tiles (in a dropped ceiling) through the workspace. This was really dramatic but abrupt. I was sitting in an office chair and felt the seat of the chair shoot up and drop down enough that it was uncomfortable on my backside. This earthquake felt like an impulse. Relaying the wave in the ceiling tiles, a colleague shared a story of the 1979 Imperial Valley earthquake where he observed a wave moving through the electrical utility poles on the side of the road. Later in 1989 I was in the Bay Area (Milpitas) for the Loma-Prieta earthquake (6.9) on the San Andreas fault, which was truly terrifying and lasted for what seemed like a very long time. I was in a hotel ballroom while glass light fixtures dropped from the ceiling and shattered on the floor. There was nowhere to run to and I took cover under a table while glass shards pierced the overhanging table cloth right in front of me. I was very conscious of all the hotel floors wobbling above me. Colleagues had stories of trying to come down the stairs with the power out. Having much later moved to Oregon, we felt the 2001 Nisqually/Seattle earthquake (6.8) which was a long "roller" (as felt in Oregon). With the prospect of a large Juan De Fuca Subduction Zone earthquake very real here in the Northwest, earthquakes are a force to be feared. When such an earthquake happens, it will be much like the 2011 Tōhoku/Fukushima earthquake in Japan - very similar tectonic forces are at work. RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted April 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2020 Mooring awl inner Temple Hare, Pink pills for supper mean I fell rapidly asleep, unfortunately I was awake again by 00:30. Then a long awake period before another 3 hours sleep. Ben the clock watching collie, was asnoozing in his bed, the countdown for the 06:00 news comes on, he gets up, goes to the door and gives me the stare... It's chilly with a light frost on the prone areas, overcast and generally dull. From the lower end of the military spectrum we regularly had alerts where parking was banned within 20 metres of buildings. So on patrol the simplest way of listing offenders was to go to the officers mess and take the number of the private cars filling every single space hard against the walls. They were also a good source of cars not showing the station pass... Plans for today , porridge, WFH for an hour or two, check inkle loom, the paint will probably still be wet. Paint the inside of the keel with resin, especially the keelbolt holes. Muddling hovering the grass first.. Time to put the porridge on.. 19

And that is the problem as few are willing to pay for that quality as they don’t expect items to last and expect to replace the items in a year or two. Even relatively expensive things have built in obsolescence. My top of the line domestic oven, only 7 years old, is now starting to fail (the plastic retaining clips for the glass door now have material fatigue and one has already snapped off). I am supposed to replace it - which annoys me (if I do, I won’t be getting an “all singing, all dancing” domestic oven, but a simple professional kitchen oven: just on/off, temperature and even heating throughout). And yet there was a time when “built to last” meant exactly that. A few minutes on the Net should find some replacement clips, thus saving the cost and aggro of buying a new oven and freeing up lots of m*ddling tokens 15
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted April 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2020 Ey up! Domestic timetable shredded! Her indoors has decided to go shopping today! I may walk for exercise and collect the second half of my medication (metformin supply up hee is a bit dodgy at the moment). I see the BMA have decided older people with existing conditions should not be allowed to use any ventilators. They should be used for young and less medically impaired...so much for the Doctors Oath... ( and that is me and a few other ERs badgered if we get the virus). That may be a practical solution but it may come back to haunt them. In a more positive light, my dreams generally have a link to real life. Deja vu really can happen. I wonder if it means my brain does batch jobs assessing future happenings? Now, go off and use the day well! GDB get some track laid! Chrisf get some muddling done! Prepare for your Christmas trip! Positive thoughts to all who ail! Baz
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted April 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2020 Good morning all, A dull start to the day here and there may (or may not) be some sunny spells and occasional showers. Only one bin lorry due today, it's usually here by 7.15 but hasn't arrived yet and can't be heard in adjacent roads although that's not really surprising. Haven't seen a postman for 3 or 4 days. The Boss is still not right and has not regained her appetite. She doesn't want to go a walk today as yesterday one person (creepy neighbour as she calls him, from round the corner) got too close (about 2 metres away) We've now had official confirmation from Sainsbury's that we are definitely now on their elderly priority list for deliveries which is a relief and means that we won't have to rely on the kids or neighbours for shopping. I believe that a couple of domestic task need my attention today, that should use up about an hour or so. Have a good one, Bob. 2

The clip that broke off is one of three, which in turn are part of the entire oven door frame. So to all intents and purposes I would have dismantle and replace half (if not all of) the door. And to add insult to injury (so to speak), the break is clean and (theoretically) eminently reparable but the clip is made of one of those plastics requiring very heavy duty solvents/glues not available in Switzerland to non-trade (and even then such solvents/glues require special handling and disposal). A tube of Airfix glue or a bottle of MekPak won’t work here. The above is one of the reasons I am slowly replacing domestic kitchen equipment with professional kitchen/catering equipment. The latter is designed to just one thing, do it well, do it for thousands of times and is “easily” reparable (I put easily in quote marks as repair may not be simple but spare parts are available). As an illustration of what I mean, I bought a professional ice cream machine from Nisbets the catering equipment supply people. It has one on/off switch and a knob for the clockwork timer. Every single part of the machine is replaceable. It was also a few pounds cheaper than the domestic equivalent - which came with LED displays, digital timer and a distinct lack of spare parts (I say that because the Nisbets website will point you to the spares page, the domestic manufacturer had nothing at all, beyond “contact us for service”, in regards to spares) Finally, an added complication is that, far too frequently, for many items of interest to me (from musical instruments to modelling gear) the relevant website page is emblazoned with the statement: this cannot be delivered to Switzerland/nicht lieferbar in der Schweiz (God knows why, I mean Switzerland hasn’t got an OO Model railway industry or major guitar manufacturers to protect) iD
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted April 2, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2020 Morning all from a sunny but chilly place. Breakfast has been taken andbit seems that the first cold call of the day has woken the boss up. No doubt dailyborders will be posted soon. My current plans are some tidying in the shed this morning and possibly a bit of muddling. This afternoon I suspect that grass will be mown when the temperature has risen a bit. This evening will be the social highlight of the week when we go to get fish and chips and eat them in the car. It's interesting as to what us classed as esential and what us allowed. Here we cannot cycle for our daily exercise to cut down on the potential demand for the emergency services, however we would be allowed to go shopping or commute by bike. We are restructed to walking or running for a maximum of an hour within 1km of the house. I suspect that the regulation is aimed more at city dwellers. Anyway, the day is to be seized, one way or another so I will say Regards to all. Jamie 23

I haven’t heard that Italy or Spain are doing the same and they have significant elderly populations. It is, I am sad to say, not unexpected. With the NHS trying to cure all ills and with an appalling management (as many former NHS people on ER have pointed out) it was bound to come to this (or something quite like it). After the crisis has passed I think the role of the NHS should be re-examined. If the role of the NHS is to keep Britain healthy and able to work, then some difficult decisions need to be made (and let’s face it do you really to provide IVF or cosmetic breast augmentation [amongst other things] to Britons to keep them healthy and fit to work) And you are quite right, Barry O, this could very well come back to bite them on the bum. What if (God forbid) HM the Queen comes down with the disease and requires a ventilator? Will the BMA say “ Sorry, Ma’am. No can do. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted April 2, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted April 2, 2020 Morning all.. It is sunny here, seems quite cold though. I just looked out of a front window to see what is happening (not a lot) in he road and spent a few minutes in a staring competition with a fox. It isn’t unusual to see them about in daylight here but this one did look very healthy. Now they aren’t living on all the food dropped by children in the nearby school (foxes live round the school field) perhaps they have found a healthier diet. Nephews are going to try and set mum up for home deliveries. She is running low on cash to pay people who have bene getting food for her. She has online banking but only I know how to use it although I can only do so when she enters her pin number in the card reader. With not being able to go in her house I cant do it for her at present. With the latest tlak of us all having to wear masks I ownder where they will all come from as theres a shortage for NHS and other carers let alone 60 million plus people. Anyway its photo scannnig this morning and also trying to do a factory reset on a PC to create more psace for recent updates that it cant do as the 32GB SSD is pretty much full up and even with a 62GB USB stick it still cant do the updates.

However, it's accepted that even the most sophisticated medical facility will not help you is you've been filled full of lead or being spread over a few hundred metres. Being rich and powerful has not really helped Harvey Weinstein in his current situation. I suspect if he hadn't been rich and powerful he wouldn't be in the predicament he now finds himself. 1 18

Wet and misty, rain earlier, cloud low on the mountains... but I am not destined to go anywhere... I printed off some tunes, yesterday, so I am better equipped to tackle the Radio 4 UK Theme Song which we used to wake up to in our sailing days. I already had a few tunes under my belt but never got further than that. One problem, I find, is with the top notes - my mouth gets so wet when I am playing that I end up blowing raspberries rather than notes! I know nervousness can cause a dry mouth but that does not work when I am just tinkering on my own! Remedy, anyone? And, to sing you out... The bin wagons dawn chorus has been a bit earlier lately, probably because there are no traffic hold ups.
