Popular Post Sir TophamHatt
I think what's starting to annoy me now is all the Asda slots are full for delivery and click and collect. I'm not worried about delivery, nor the fact they're letting one in one out at the supermarket but I can't see at 7am in the morning, all their click and collect slots are taken for the 2 week limit. Being a key worker, I don't know if I can go in at 7am, although they've changed their times to be 8am - 8pm (usually 7am - 10pm). I could phone the store but can't imagine I'll get through. The Asda Twitter feed is no longer monitored at the moment so getting answers is going to be a struggle. Then again, could always queue for an hour... 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 27, 2020 (edited) The Boss is a quite a bit better. She never had the persistent cough or fever symptoms of Covid-19 but continuous splitting headache, occasional cough, plenty of sneezing (but she does that all the time anyway) aching all over and loss of appetite and energy. Never seen her so inactive and down in the all years I've known her. Headache seems to have gone at last but she's still a bit wobbly. However she's managed some breakfast and has had a phone call from Steve and 3 texts from Nicki and neighbours which have all cheered her up a bit. I'm fairly sure that before too long she'll be cracking the whip again. Edited March 27, 2020 by grandadbob
RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 27, 2020 Thanks for the update Bob, even more so in these current times we all have concerns for one another. Hope the improvement continues, even if your whip marks cease to recover. 7 11

RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 27, 2020 (edited) Mor ing all, Nice sunny day with a mild frost to start it off. Mrs Stationmaster wandered down to Waitrose for wrinklies hour and got everything on her list - I duly went down in the Good Doctormobile (the car which was standing open in railwayese) as we thought there might be a parking problem but on arrival I would have had my pick of 80% of the car park if I'd actually wanted to park. Not much traffic about so an unusual pleasure to drive round the town. I must admit to being jealous of KZ's expensive camera strap because yesterday i had an email from Jessops offering really good reductions on the accessory kits, including a leather camera case, for the Panasonic TZ70, TZ80, and TZ100 - guess who's got a TZ90 And deliveries of manure? Never had that problem but when we moved into the house in Tilehurst the very steep gravel covered 'drive' (just over a car length long) had a horrible lip where it joined the pavement which grounded my (very) aged Triumph 2000. Easy to build up the drive but gravel was a waste of time so I rang a contact in the Somerset quarrying industry to see if he could get hold of about half a ton of limestone scalpings for me as they'd be ideal, solid, fill to build up the low point. 'No problem. leave it to me Mike, there'll be a bloke round from the local depot' (Theale). Couple of days later a tipper lorry duly arrived and sort of manoeuvred outside the gate but couldn't fully turn as it was a narrowish road and the lorry was an 8 wheeler. Driver checked with me who I was before tipping with a simple 'Are you Tony's mate who needs the scalpings?' And then tipped something over 5 tons of the stuff onto the pavement and blocking our gateway. I told him that i only needed half a ton but he said 'As you're Tony's mate I thought you might like a bit more, bye'. It took me two days to clear the pavement and about six years to finally lose most of it in the back garden eventually using it under various foundations for paths and walls etc; around half a ton of it was dug out of the drive when we had an extension built. Enjoy the rest of your day one and all and take care. And I trust that Mrs GDB will soon be on the road back to slave driving and keeping him in order. We are in the same position, being stuck at home for 12 weeks. I would have hoped that they would come up with some sort of prioritisation for key workers and the “vulnerable “, but not so far. We have no family nearby, but fortunately some friends have offered to do a shopping run for us. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 27, 2020 I had a phone call from the heart failure clinic this morning. Checking to see how I am coping and cancelling my appointment for next week. No change in medication, they want people to be stable at the moment. I can ring them if I have concerns or changes in condition, otherwise they will ring me in a month. Lots of routine stuff is being done remotely now according to the doctors in the family. They are still seeing some patients. BiL in Enfield has had his practice designated as the “hot” spot for the area. Hopefully as they will be seeing those with possible Coronavirus they will have proper protective kit. SiL in the Midlands is in a practice with a “red room”. It was her turn to be there yesterday. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 27, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sad news about a doctor who has died apparently from CV-19, and fairly local as well, Southend hospital. A demonstration if ever one was needed of what the medics are doing for us. 9 hours ago, J. S. No hibab for her, she used to wear mini-skirts and was very western in her habits and attitude and was free to marry anyone of her choice. Eminently better than working in one of those huge great office spaces and when part-time and in the office having to use that disastrous concept of 'hot desk'. Fortunately the last work I did was peripatetic and very enjoyable and rewarding (Bob Bishop probably has some of the same rewarding experiences) but the nemesis quite often was parking. I notice that a number of my former RC colleagues have moved across to SJA following the recent change in RC priorities. 1
Popular Post The Lurker
Greetings all from Sidcup where it is sunny once again. I will be going out for my daily walk with Younger Lurker in a while to get some rays! I can't say that I am used to this WFH and we do have a team Teams meeting for those that can make it - it was only 3 of the 5 of us today - but we do mainly discuss things that are happening or not happening when they should do in the group. What I am finding is that I am less tempted to quickly deal with e-mails that arrive on my phone when I am not working (eg at 8 o'clock in the evening); it's quite easy t stop someone making an arse of themselves by intervening. Now I am less tempted! However I do miss the normal interaction with people I don't work directly with but who are in the office - the cafe staff, the postroom guys, the people who sit in nearby desks in different teams! I will definitely be POE today, and there is some Tim Taylors Paulter Porter in the garage that I have my eye on. I need to get to it before Elder Lurker decides he wants it! 17

Popular Post iL Dottore
Morning All, It's lovely and sunny, but very brisk here. I have been busy in the kitchen pending the return of Mrs iD and the Wolf Pack from the holiday hovel: I have made a rustic loaf, a raisin and sultana loaf and - currently in the oven - a cherry cake. Problem is the butter didn't cream too well with muscovado sugar (I'm all out of the lighter stuff) - so I have no idea how it will turn out. With Mrs iD's return, I will have to resume dog walking duties. Fortunately, I am prepared: Cheers iD 1

I thought that politics were supposed to be a taboo on here and to suggest that certain people should get Covid-19 because of their political leanings is, in my view, in rather poor taste. 1 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post petethemole Posted March 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 27, 2020 I contacted Mrs mole in NZ this morning. She has a Cathay Pacific flight to Hong Kong, leaving the day she was supposed to Fly but a lot later. No new ticket required as she's booked with them anyway. No news yet on a flight back to LHR. I'm off to get a bus to Eastleigh Lidl & Sainsbury + Iceland if time. I don't expect bogroll but hope to get most other needs. I can do without people like the bloke and his 9/10 year old son who were so close behind at the till last Monday that the lad was nudging my rucksack. He got a nudge back. That Lidl has wheeled baskets with long handles; I wished i'd hung onto mine in the queue as they are over 5ft stretched out. 9 2
