RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 18, 2020 Well, to The Danglies of St John we did venture, travel forms clutched in our sticky little mits. No Gendarmes of any description were seen and Beth's appointment was quick and efficient. Afterwards we did a bit of shopping for a few items we forgot on Monday. I can report that there are p,enty of toilet rolls in that branch of Leclerc's. Regards to all. Jamie 18

I'm not so sure about that. I'm reminded of the tall tale I was told many years ago of the last case of scurvy in the UK - allegedly a Scottish student at Sheffield Uni. He made himself a "draw of porridge" and attempted to live on it for a term - there was a list of the inventive ways solidified porridge could be prepared - but alas it was deficient in vitamin C. That in turn reminds me of a former colleague who had a meeting In Dublin. At the pub afterwards, he asked about the story that one could survive on a diet of Guinness alone. His hosts had to admit that this wasn't quite true: to meet one's recommended daily intake of nutrients, one would need to consume one pint of orange juice, two pints of milk, and forty-seven pints of Guinness. 52 minutes ago, jamie92208 said: "They order, said I, this matter better in France." He's concerned for his two kids, the one in Manchester Uni says he's the only one left in his block of accommodation and rumour is that it will close. The son in Colchester College is likely to be kicked out on Friday when the place closes. So they will go and stay with Mum who is the only one who has space for them. They will be under strict measure by my brother for 14 days. Luckily Mums place is large enough for them to do that most of the time. There is a risk but at least Mum will have company. We have all agreed including Mum that its the best option. When my brother can get them flights back to HK then they will head back there. meanwhile back in Redhill its been busy in neighbours gardens with kids already away from school and plenty of gardening going on aswell. I have been out there doing more clearance in between crust earning and working on the water tower for Blackmoor. Stay safe all. 13

RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 18, 2020 Evening all. Trusting that ERs are as well as can be expected. I haven't found time to read much of the past few day's worth of posts. Life continues reasonably normally Upon the Hill of Strawberries. The House of Fun was noticeably quieter today but with a relaxed atmosphere. Not that it really matters but current traffic levels will do wonders for punctuality statistics and there have been fewer (but some significantly larger) equipment failures. The thesis is now fully written and SWMBO is cross-checking all her references before submitting it on Friday. For my part the supermarket run was carried out and Waitrose was a little emptier than it has been - of both people and stock. Most shelves were full but those which were not were totally empty. Staff were busily refilling some as fast as they could. There is clearly supply in the chain and it is getting out as fast as it can to balance the sudden shift in the buying patters of some folk. We re now re-stocked for 5-6 days ahead; with a delivery booked for the 29th (the earliest we could get) though no certainty as to how much of that will actually turn up we are still in a good position. A food parcel was even made up for a friend in Cornwall who has let it be known that she was unable to find dry pasta, rice and several other everyday items. Two packs each of rice, pasta and bikkies are on their way which shouldn't harm the local supply unduly. She mentioned tinned tomatoes, baked beans and fresh meat as well but those are rather heavy to post and might not arrive too fresh either! The corner shop in the village continues to have stock of items the supermarkets are selling out of very quickly. Including longlife milk and non-dairy alternatives, flour, rice, pasta, sliced bread and toilet rolls. It appears I am required to attend the kitchen if I require dinner. I shall see you good people later. Stay well. 23
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 18, 2020 (edited) Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Tess Coes was less crowded lunch time but there's a lot of empty shelves in sight but I got most of what I needed. A few extras was some cheeses from the deli counter, they are closing the in store deli, fresh fish and butchery from tomorrow so they are de-stocking at reduced prices. 5 hours ago, Rugd1022 said: IThe roads are definitely much quieter round here but some semblance of normal life still prevails, there's plenty of jogging and dog walking happening, the 'mad Irish woman with a big hairy dog' and the 'octagenarian old dear in pink lycra' are still showing what they're made of...! I can't un-imagine the mental picture that that conjures up. 5 hours ago, polybear said: What did he do "wrong" ? The practice manager had restricted him to seeing patients who are not presenting any symptoms of Coronavirus. They shouldn’t be seeing any anyway but... He is doing lots of telephone (and soon to add video )consultations. However another GP there has health issues that also should require being at home and the other may have. He seems quite calm and convinced they will cope. Tony Edited March 18, 2020 by Tony_S 3

Aditi’s brother in law GP could have retired a year ago. Aditi asked her sister if he regretted not doing so. “Every morning now”. I doubt that they will be after me to go back considering they removed me for whistleblowing. I am also signed off as being mad, with the certificate to prove it. I worked in A&E and Medical Admission wards so might be of some use but was never trained to operate a vent. I could cannulate, take blood, do ECGs, IV drugs (including diamorphine) amongst other things but I am well out of practice now. I could verify but not certify. My NMC registration lapsed about 7 years ago because of lack of practice hours following the collapse of my mental health. To go back ordinarily would require a 6 month Return to Nursing course. Would you be happy being looked after by a nurse who hasn't practised for 7 years and is not up to date? I don’t think at the moment they would want me as I am brewing a chest infection -just as I always do at this time of year. But seriously keep safe everyone and keep your mind busy. There is a good community in here so no need to get isolated socially. It may not be face to face but it is reassuring and comforting to know that there are other people in the same situation who understand what we are going through and are looking out for you. Friendship doesn't need to be face to face to be valued. Edited March 18, 2020 by Natalie 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 18, 2020 So I phoned my local hospital and asked if my bowel screening appointment was cancelled in light of the pressure on the service. Nope, apparently not. So with a national shortage of bog roll the NHS is still planning on sending me an enema in the post and asking me to report to a hospital that has apparently been set up exclusively to treat virus victims. What could possibly go wrong. 4

I had an ad for an N95 Respirator mask yesterday. It's sunglasses right now. AdChoices by Google can be very dependent on what you click on and what you search for, not just recently but their picture of who you are and what people in your demographic might like. That and a degree of randomness (or at least how much the advertiser is willing to pay to get your eyeballs on their ad). I haven't seen television advertising adapt to the "new normal" yet either. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 18, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 18, 2020 I'm not brave enough to ask questions on whatever the correct thread is (Hornby ex GW loco plastic bits?) but I would appreciate it if the black thing in the photo could be identified and where do I put it, please. It was under the loco, King Henry III. I have looked to see if I can see another similar part and can't find anything. Ian (Roundhouse) once identified a really tiny wire that was loose on a Merchant Navy Bulleid loco for me. I dont know much about ex GWR locos and I bought it because I like the colour (blue). Penny for scale if it isn't clear I will retake with a better camera. Thanks Tony

Tony Our near neighbours are both recently retired Doctors(GP), but have of yet not been recalled. My next door neighbour is a dentist, but did the extended course, so is also a doctor. He said that his speciality, pathology, might be required later on! My son in law who is a GP is working 'non contact'. the surgery remains open, but all appointments are done via phone or video link. The decision to do this was to ensure that the surgery remains open, as there is less risk of contamination, which would be followed by an enforced closure and this would not do his patients any good whatsoever. 9 2

They will all be finished in grey and scabbiness, so no fancy liveries on them, however faded There will be spare numbers left over, so I can send you a set for N(H)N. The reason I asked was I once considered building a model based on the entrance to North's Navigation, which is actually north of Maesteg, after seeing it in book about 'Modelling Aspects of the Coal Industry'. 15
Ozexpatriate
The weirdest thing happened in my email inbox today. (My email utility is my internet providers' custom web portal. It is pretty crappy.) The most recent two emails have content from earlier emails for the message body with no trace of the relevant message. An email from a financial company has a "please review your purchase" message from an online retailer and a "Bachmann TrainMail" message contains a COVID-19 update from a different financial company. 1
