I’ve heard from many of you, especially in the last 48 hrs. We’re here to help. In addition to focusing on public health, I’ve dedicated a team to focus on the economic impact of COVID-19 as well. There's some momentum towards closing bars and dine-in options and limiting restaurants to take out only (as they are in the State of Washington) but the Governor of Oregon has not decided to do this yet. Locally, events with more than 250 attendees are cancelled for the time being. I'm still hoping the next four weeks will see the worst of this. Popular Post Ian Abel
Afternoon all... Well, not much of a weekend as all social contact was minimized (i.e. ZERO). Spent most of the weekend in a combination of preparing meals together, doing puzzles and taking walks. The latter especially required so Whitney doesn't get too bored <warning - vaguely political commentary> Sunday afternoon the MN state governor gave a statement/presentation. It was a delight to listen to as it was considered, informative, included recommendations for school closing, and full of details and "what we know/what we don't know", together with plans for the state, for organized healthcare sharing of resources (the state happens to be set up that way, we're lucky) and they were calm, took questions and gave sensible answers for more than 20 minutes after the presentation. This compared to the federal government twats from the top down who have been shallow, confusing/confused, clueless, incompetent and incapable of providing some reasoned response and provided the most amount of how to f!ck up what could have been well planned process imaginable! The alarmist White House occupant shutting down all travel has simply resulted in exactly the OPPOSITE of what you need - the key airports have become jammed with people in close quarters for hours waiting to be processed/tested. If there was ever an easy way to assure the spread, all the while vaguely suggesting social distancing was important, that was it! I await Jemmas report when she returns Wednesday as she is transiting through Atlanta, Cincinnati and Orlando today, before flying to Cancun and back through Orlando to JFK tomorrow! Guaranteed to be a flustercuck of the first order! <end> Lovely afternoon here yesterday, chilly but sunny, so we took Whitney for a walk around the lake; Lake is still quite frozen although on the southern end where this was taken from there is some open water near the shore. Lots of folks out walking, exercise is recommended, whilst still maintaining a distance and it was good to see plenty of people about. Today, working, useful that I'm generally telecommuting, and noticeably quiet according to the radio morning commuter road reports. 2 first thing, a light dusting of snow that's already disappeared, and 5 expected for the high. Stay safe everyone. 22
RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Trying to digest the news. Particularly the implication - as I understand it - that mum (95) may be isolated for 14 weeks. Wondering if I got the virus soonish (and recovered) if this means I would then be able to see her? Confused. Also with high bp do I fall ninth one of the at risk categories. Is this a chronic condition? Asthma didn't seem to get a mention in the news this evening, whereas it was before. 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 managed a GDB moment today.. Swapped out a scalpel blade..it slipped stabbing a finger on my left hand..ouch says I! (other expletives were uttered).. scalpel then jumps and stabs my index finger on my right hand (which was already pained from a cricket injury last week) Ouch again! says I.(well no I may have said a few choice words!) luckily her indoors appeared to apply disinfectant, elastoplast and a mugadecaf. If pubs etc aren't to be closed is it OK for me "at risk" to visit them? I just love people who can't "govern"..not!! Baz 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 TT cancelled, I'm inconsolable. Still all in panic stations here, no bog roll to be seen, despite our Chief Minister saying he was in Shoprite in Peel on Saturday and there was plenty - well so was I and there was none - lying git. No pasta either, but I can't eat that! Drug supply will be the next worry, as I'm on several BP meds, and diabetic of course but that is managed by diet but that diet is becoming hard to stick to as supplies are shaky due to the panic buying. I suppose that will have to end as people simply have enough of everything? Mad busy at work, so maybe folk are topping up with trains!

The Obergrumpenfuhrer has just received an email from Girlguiding UK to advise that a decision has been made to cancel all Rainbow/Brownie/Guide/Ranger meetings until further notice. One presumes the Scout Association will be following along shortly. Being the total Anti Social F**k Pig that I am, self isolation is not a problem should I require it. I've been down the road to some elderly neighbours to make sure they had my phone number, as they both have heart issues, so are being very cautious. They are not going out so are effectively already in self isolation. After I rang their doorbell, I stood back about 3 metres, which is something that all the local delivery drivers and the postmen are now doing around here. I don't think 'signed for' is going to work for the next few weeks. 13 5

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 16, 2020 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Another show that has been cancelled is the South Benfleet show on the 28th. Luckily they've re-scheduled it for the 19th September. No news yet of two other events that weekend, the Brentwood toy fair and Southern Expo 2020 but I wouldn't be surprised if they are also cancelled. I've also ordered an ultra-violet torch from e-bay, Its one way of making sure that theres no viruses on a surface, a good dose of UV light. I've not seen it mentioned anywhere else, I hope it works. Time to put the kettle on, be back later. 8 2
RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) Hi Guys, GCR is a big show and the decision has been taken well in advance because of all the work necessary beforehand i.e. lots of people working together, plus traders and exhibitors who are spending a lot of time and effort into making things right not to mention various potential aspects of 'life changing' isolations potentially coming that it would be better to cancel early rather than at the last moment so to speak. I will try and add the letter when located. Edited March 16, 2020 by PeterBB Found media information 5

After a "Presidential" press conference a few hours ago recommending people gather in groups of no more than 10, the Governor of Oregon has a few minutes ago restricted food/beverage service businesses to carry out and delivery only and restricted gatherings to 25 people with a request to limit gatherings to 10. Grocery, pharmacy and retail stores remain open. EDIT: In other news, some of the casinos in Las Vegas are closing as well. In the State of Washington, there is a long list of closed establishments not just limited to bars and dining rooms but including gyms, ice cream shops, tattoo parlours, wine tasting rooms and many more. It turns out that Washington and Oregon have some of the fewest hospital rooms per capita in the US. There are less than 700 ventilators in the state of Oregon - for a population of 4.3 million. Popular Post br2975
Well, we made it back from “fortress” Poland on this afternoon’s EZY6276, which arrived at Krakow as a “ghost flight” and returned in its’ assigned slot. All future such flights are now cancelled. By online detective work, due to a total lack of info from EasyJet, we kept “pricing tickets” for our booked flights, and attempting to order food for the flight online, which implied the flight would depart. Eventually our flight was shown online as “fully booked” but on take off the A320 had some 20 empty seats. Anyway, one of my reasons for a break in Krakow was to catch the dwindling (unreliable) Konstal 105Na trams, of which a few showed themselves until the national lockdown from midnight last Sat/Sun which saw a drastic reduction in tram services. . Popular Post Simon G
According to the latest guidance, I should now be self isolating, due to the underlying health conditions, ie lymphoma. The next few weeks are not going to be fun. At least we can go outside and easily avoid crowds around here! We might try some walking in the nearby lakes area before we end up on a lockdown situation. The model club agreed to pack in meetings tonight, which is sensible, so I brought a stack of engines home which were donated to be sold for club funds. I will get them checked out, and make any necessary repairs. The Maryport show next month has also fallen victim to the virus. Tomorrow we plan to try to do our weekly shop, so it will be interesting to see what shortages there are. Last time we went in there weren’t any shortages that I could see, but I suspect that has all changed now. 5 1
