Thanks for that advice Smiffy. I have ordered some face masks on the internet but I will only use them if it is recommended as they are not re-usable, the re-usable ones were sold out. FYI its through a website called Groupon, just go into the site and type in search 'face masks'. They were still offering bog rolls a couple of days ago.

I've a self imposed ban on TV new and any form media I think the BBC twats go along way  into whipping up hysteria what a bunch of brainless articles they are.

I only pay £7.50 for my licence fee but that is too much for them to ram total #ollox (not just the news) down my throat on a daily basis.

OOh the company is issuing Infra red thermometers to all employees to check their and their families temperature every day..

 

Well we do make them, they are only giving out the cheapest one they make, approximately £100 Each to the customer, not the ones costing thousands..

Back from our shopping trip.  The distillery/vineyard, a family run concern, was open as usual so liquid antiseptic was purchased. However the farmer was somewhat agitated as his local farm machinery purveyor is closed to retail customers and he couldn't get a battery for some piece of machinery.  Then it was on to the supermarket where there were no loo rolls and not a lot of pasta but plenty of everything else.  However the builders merchants/DIY place across the road was shut but staffed. I heeded a funnel for refilling petrol powered tools.  No joy, so I will contunue to make do with one made from a used milk bottle. Coffee now being consumed and this afternoon it will be painting, filing and muddling as usual.   Chicken curry is promised for this evening.

Morning all.

It is quite a pleasant day here. Aditi has a couple of items to be posted so we may walk to the post office. There was a photo of our local Aldi on Facebook with a queue outside but it turned out to be people waiting for it to open on Sunday. The car park clearly wasn’t full and even on a normal day it is busy.  
MiL was going to stop going to her bridge club next week but all the people she plays with phoned to say they weren’t going today. She was the only one to phone the organiser though. He said he was probably going to stop the club meeting for a while anyway. MiL is 92 and others are older.

Good morning, all,

Bright and sunny here and it should stay fine all day.

Missed posting yesterday as we were up late and had a few things to do. Joe's party Saturday was great with only about half a dozen people not coming. Two of those were my sister and BiL who had  a fair way to travel and both over 70 with various health problems between them so I think that was sensible. Lots of 17-20 year olds and they are a cracking bunch of youngsters and their behaviour was exemplary and everybody had a great time. The guy running the rugby club said  it was (along with Abbie's party a couple of weeks ago) the best do they've had there. He did have a bit of trouble downstairs with the ladies rugby team! This was mainly a bit too much of high spirits and drink so some were getting a tad silly. 

We're welcome back anytime.

Went to Sainsbury's earlier to pick up some odds and ends we were running out of and it was bedlam. The Boss (who used to work there) said it was as  bad as Christmas. They'd had a delivery of toilet rolls and it looked like most people were not being greedy and only taking a pack or two.

They had just about run out of eggs which seemed a bit puzzling.

Now being called to help with something (for the second time ) and by the tone it's deemed to be something urgent. Past experience makes me doubt it.

Aditi has a particular tone for serious help requests. It is quite calm , of the “Houston, we have a problem” type but I know it means something broken or leaking.

The best thing the Government could do would be to heavily censor the media, and stop all the horror stories and TV news reports of 100 yard queues outside costco and Lidl, as were shown last night.  It only fuels the numpties.

Nice sunny day and we'd be off to Tesco if I wasn't waiting for a call from the surgery as i want to discuss medications I'm taking with a view to possibly ceasing to take them in the current climate.   But once the morning officially ends in a few minutes time we'll be off out to see what the scavengers have left for us, not that we need much anyway.

 

His ladship has advised that today will be the last day in office and he'll be working from home furno from tomorrow - seems a sensible step in view of the fact that provided the 'net still works he can just as readily work from home as he can from the office (in whichever country he happens to be in or train he happens to be on - if it has wifi).  The Good Doctor is working today and might bring home the news about the way the hospitals in Oxford will be reorganising various activities to create space for those struck down by the virus it seems likely that major physical trauma/injury treatment and surgery currently based at the  JR will be moved out to the Nuffield Orthopaedic y =t create room at the JR.  so at east one helath authority seems to have plans in hand.

 

I see Railex is cancelled - a great shame but there we are.  As the holder of Advance Ticket No. 01 for this year's show will I get a refund, a freebie for next year, or should I auction it as a potential collectible rarity?  Time will tell, maybe.

Good afternoon all,

 

So, yesterday’s trip to Kidderminster was conducted with the incessant use of wiper blades whereas the return today is calling for sunglasses. SWMBO is presently nosing around Son’s place, under the excuse of cleaning for him. It just p!sses me off that she insists on doing it and that he allows her to do so!

 

Later, I will do a stock take of materials with which to occupy myself if, as my daughter tells me, I shall be isolated for at least four weeks. I will need to start getting newspapers delivered at the end of week 3 in that case as the supply of soft and quilted will be getting rather low then. I have also been advised that I am not required to take my grandsons to their golf lessons this early evening- they might infect me!

 

Be good, be careful and keep taking the tablets!

Car delivered to dealers so I walked to Crown Point Retail ..what 2was Hunslet East goods yard. Queues for Boots but pound land and another discount shop had loads of toilet rolls and paper hankies available. 

 

Went past Costco...ithe wasn't open but lots in the queue all going "Bah! Bah! " and wearing wool fleeces...

 

Video sent to me to show how well Beast was...fine! £239later I drove back home.

 

Bets new on that cricket will be,at best, delayed this coming season.

Not surprisingly the latest postponement of gatherings large and / or medium is the NEC Classic Car Restoration Show at the end of the month, I'd imagine it's going to be quite hard for the decision makers to pick a suitable future date, it must be a logistical nightmare but needs must of course. Elsewhere I'm reading that the conference and exhibition industry is almost at a standstill at the moment.

Greetings all from LBG where I can see blue sky.

 

The train was marginally quieter this morning - but still mainly standing from Sidcup. I did get a seat but when I tried to squash I realised why it was free. The bloke by the window was about 6 ft 5 tall and the same wide and the woman on the end was a similar width and leaned inward to the window as I sat down, Fortunately neither coughed.

 

The office is quite quiet and the contingency plans were discussed. The main issue we have is that certain pieces of work need to be formally signed - or even notarised and apostilled - so cannot be done remotely. I suspect we will save those up and do them one day a week!

 

Included in that is an annual notification which will get the company a £5k fine if not made and individual directors personal fines of the same amount.

 

I will speak to my parents about their potential forthcoming isolation. The allotment may well be their main concern. Having said that, it's been so wet that I doubt that they have managed to do much in it yet anyway.

 

Of equal concern is what happens if the schools close for an extended period. Younger Lurker won't be affected too badly although he would face having to go to a new school without ever having seen it. However, the prospect of putting back public exams until after the summer creates an interesting one for Elder Lurker; he will have left school and will be hoping to have obtained either an apprenticeship or job by September.

 

On the shopping front, we did eventually manage to book Ocado deliveries (we have used them since Mrs Lurker was pregnant with Younger..) and today I successfully waited 10 minutes or so in their "virtual" queue to edit the order. Yesterday Mrs Lurker reported that the shops were nearly out of ketchup and brown sauce. Worrying times! And MiL reported an egg shortage in tyne & wear (I think sainsbury's). Presumably this is an issue related to the health of the supplier rather than a sudden surge in omelette making.

 

I am also missing sport. Even the telegraph has abandoned its sports section

 

It's good to see Smiffy dropping by and better to know that he is well.

The nursery at which my daughter works has been told to take children and staff’s temperature each day along with that of any other person who enters the nursery for whatever reason.  I’m not sure what equipment they have been given to do this.

 

I have been called for my flu jab and am going for it this afternoon.  Notwithstanding all that is going on I thought this quite late ‘in the season’ unless it has to be renewed only annually and lasts a year.  May as well use their machine to check b.p while I’m there, not that I’m confident that it has improved much.

Afternoon All, Firstly re the above quote from Smiffy2 over Xmas both of us had all the symptoms my other half worse than I, we had flown back from Singapore just before Xmas it does make me wonder what we had caught!

 

Lazy  day though we did go shopping, amazed that the flour shelves were decimated ie empty! I am not convinced that all those who bought said flour know how to make bread etc!

Toilet Rolls/Tissues/Hand Soap also in short supply.

The only items I am stocking up on are model making related which in fairness I do need but would normally buy over a period of time. I would not be a happy bunny if I cannot get something I needed to complete a project because we are all in lockdown!

I met Valerie from work and did a quick shop. Usual gaps in shelves where toilet rolls and pasta* should be but also huge gaps in other areas too. No biscuits, bottle or tinned beer, boxed wines amongst other things.  Good to see us northerners getting our priorities right.

 

* Like Shed said about use of flour,  I wonder how many normally eat pasta or indeed know what to do with it once they’ve bought it.

A long trip back there are no less than 6 sets of road works on the main road,  from Norwich round the top to Stalham and beyond,  I think they are trying to Self isolate my part of North Norfolk. 

 

We decided to split our shopping between the two Tescos,  we achieved Ben's dog food,  I picked up the last bag..  And my low sugar drinking chocolate and that's it..

No peas,  tea bags,  bread,  porridge,  bacon,  cheese,  mince.. 

I shall be having to visit both Tescos after work each day until items are bought..

Local TV news sports segments are desperate. The late night news last night had an itemization of NBA players testing positive for COVID-19 and film of a recreational hockey league team using up their ice time with a scrimmage because their competitor forfeit.

 

A 30 minute weekly sports summary on another channel presented (I kid you not) "highlights" of virtual games played using NBA 2k20 and  FIFA20 of games that had previously been scheduled. It was nonsense. Anything to fill time I suppose.

 

Meanwhile advertisers have their "official partner of the NCAA", or "official car of "March Madness" tag lines in their advertising, despite the fact that there is no NCAA March Madness college basketball tournament.  It makes me wonder what the sponsorship contracts include when the event does not take place.

Just had a message that Belmont Station in Portland has shut until further notice, A great range of craft brews. Still hoping to get back there this Summer but we shall see.

 

Currently in our local drinking  Harvey's Old. Very busy and some one commented that we are all panic drinking, whilst Boris is speaking on the TV.

Another local said that wih no sports they are looking at cancelling their Sky account as they won't be able to  afford it.
