RMweb Premium newbryford Posted March 15, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2020 In other news. No update on my brother yet - awaiting information from SiL/nephew, but not chasing them as requested. No news is good news in my book. Hockey report: Last game of the season - against the league winners Whitley Warriors. 0-7. Not much more to say than Whitley defended well and the Hawks looked tired after a season with a small squad. They can now rest up until September. Golf report from yesterday: Captains Drive-in - a low/high handicap "blind draw" saw me with a guy I know, but never played golf with. I think I played pretty well and the my partner did his fair share to our score and we ended up 2nd out of 25 teams. Prize was a few £s on my golf shop account. Not a bad start to the season. If Ally Pally is cancelled next weekend, then more golf will be played as well as entering the Try-a-Tri triathlon event at Skipton. This is likely to go ahead as the numbers are relatively small and the event is 2/3 outdoors. Work to be worked tomorrow - we may be discussing options about working from home. Stay safe folks. Cheers, Mick 7

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 15, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 15, 2020 Good evening everyone Not long after I’d started cutting the circuit boards it stopped raining, but I ended up spending the rest of the day (apart from meal times) in the workshop finishing them off. All 22 have now been cut, tracks cut where required and the edges filed down smooth. They are now ready for the wire links and snubbing diode to be soldered in place. The rest of the items will have to wait until I order the new relays, as it will be far easier to fit these first. I packed up around 4 o’clock and came in for a cuppa and a rest before tea. The northwest area group of MERG have recently started having meetings where you go along, bring current kits or projects your building or generally discuss modelling. I’ve missed the first 2 meetings, the first was on the day of Sheila’s first eye op, the second was the day after her second eye op. Due to this Covid 19 scare, it’s now looking highly likely that next weekends meeting will be cancelled, bu99er, I was looking forward to that. But then it’s unusual circumstances and hopefully they’ll be others that I can attend. Goodnight all 2

He's not as badly affected by the coronavirus as I thought he would be. Surprisingly he does not have to take immune suppressants despite having heart valves from a cow installed. Also the dialysis suite is not in the main hospital but a separate unit. They do monitor his temperature though before the start of each session. I normally shop for fresh food every day, I'm considering doing my shopping late evening/early morning when theres fewer people about, Tess Coes is open 24 hours. Just a thought about shopping, are the supermarket trolleys safe to touch? I do have a box of latex gloves, I think it might be an idea to keep them in the car. I have been wearing a glove to handle the supermarket trolley for several visits past and before that I had stopped using the handlebar and started using the cage part immediately behind it. plus of course hand cleansing once we'd got to the car including cleansing off any part of the car that we had touched before we used the hand cleanser/sanitiser. Plus hand washing immediately after arriving home and anyone coming into the house has to wash their hands before they're allowed to touch anything else. 11

Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Now the toilet paper economy emerges. A marijuana dispensary in Eastern Oregon is offering a free roll of toilet paper with every $35.00 purchase of pot. On Thursday there was still plenty of toilet paper available. As of this afternoon all the toilet paper and paper towels were gone from my usual supermarket, along with most of the bread. 4 14
Popular Post AndyID
I went skiing with my friend today. It wasn't half cold this morning but it improved later in the day. It's supposed to be blue sky all day tomorrow. I'm tempted to head for the hills again. Our daughter is concerned for us and suggested we should "self-isolate" for about a year and a half until they develop a vaccine. I told her that, at our age, that would probably be worse than getting the virus. We might avoid the virus but that's not going to be much good if we go completely off our rockers in the meantime. 1 4
Popular Post br2975
Bore da. . The burning question is....... . Will our enforced lockdown, here in Krakow, end today ? . Hopefully, EZY6276 will return us to Bristol this afternoon. . Luckily, as a party of six, we are in a three bedroom aparthotel "penthouse" - the owner of which, Gregory, I cannot praise highly enough. . There is plenty of modelling waiting to be done at home, in the event of a UK lock down, as well as garden duties in advance of spring. . Have a good day all. . Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all There is a fair bit on for me this week. Tonight I head for The Stables for a concert by Aly Bain and Phil Cunningham, two very fine musicians indeed. Wednesday sees the first Area Group meeting in its new Bedford home which is an old haunt of mine from way, way back when, and on Thursday afternoon I have my annual diabetic eye screening. On Saturday I am supposed to be at Ally Pally and hope to meet any other ERs who are there at 12 noon in the Palm Court with a view to us putting the world to rights. At an unspecified time during the week there is a fodder run to be done, which could be interesting. On my way home from the show I need to call in at Kings Place in London to book my ticket for a concert by the Welsh band Calan in April. Thanks to that ruddy virus their US tour has collapsed under them, with half the dates cancelled. They are in such dire financial straits that the future of the band is threatened, not to mention the little matter of returning to the UK somehow. How on earth could they have foreseen that when the tour was arranged? Today we are led to expect the latest wisdom from the Government. Perhaps we shall find that it is easier for them to give advice than it is for us to take it. Maybe not: as I live alone I find the threatened self-isolation for the over-70s with a health condition quite easy to achieve. I have that state thrust upon me, perhaps for longer than I would wish, and I would love to know how it will be enforced. What is beginning to get to me is the apparent futility of planning ahead and I have a fine collection of tickets and bookings that will never be used. Fortunately there are constant reminders that others are in much greater trouble than we are in the UK. Who would live in Italy or Spain at this time – and Ireland, where the pubs will be shut for a fortnight which includes St Paddy’s Day?! Best wishes to all Chris

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Ey up! Beast needs a service so i shall deliver him to the garage then hgo walkabout for a few hours. We have issued guidance at the MRS for people using the club rooms. No other visits or trips out this week anyway so you could say I am self isolating. This should mean when a parcel arrives this week I can do my first crust earning of the year. Otherwise lots of modelling time available. Time for a mugatea methinks. Have a great day..use your time well! Hope you get home br2975. Positive thoughts to all ERs especially those that ail! RMweb Premium Popular Post polybear Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Railex in May is the latest victim, sadly Understandable though, under the circumstances. I've a feeling that ExpoEM could be under threat too. Impending retirement at the end of April (22 days in the Fun House to go) didn't forsee these circumstances. Still, plenty of kits (and some), solder, wheels, motors and gearboxes in stock. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) Mooring Awl Inner Temple Hare, 993/621 Another very good nights sleep of just over 7 hours in two pieces My arms neck and shoulder don't half ache from yesterdays session with the loppers.. Thanks for the reminder I need PVA as well, there is only an inch left in the bottom of the 5 litre bottle, this has been added to the long list of items needed from the big orange shed, Along with the long list to get from Tes and Coes, I might be late home to night. On entreing the Garage to disconnect the charger for the Landrover, there was the definate smell of Oh Der Dead Rat, I gues one had climbed in when the garage was covered in Ivy and coulding get out.. The traffic for a Monday was definitely down a bit this morning, less commuters to London, I expect. I have two Major systems to do again this week, but they are not the longest ones to do, First however I have to review the results of the second system from last week.. Time however to check the company spam first,, Edited March 16, 2020 by TheQ 19

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Good morning from a sunny Surrey. Dropped other half at station then to Mum's. Brothers rang her yesterday saying that she should self isolate for four years. Luckily she knows that they try winding her up at every opportunity. A much quieter drive here than normal and other half says her train is much quieter than last week. I guess every one is camping outside supermarkets to get loo rolls. Mum likes Piers Morgan but I don't like his way when interviewing people. Suzanna on the other hand.... I have a couple of fence panels to fit for Mum then walk to chemist to get my prescription and see if I can get bread and loo rolls for Mum. Easyjet just announced they may suspended all their flights. Meanwhile I am stocking up with styrene sheets incase there is a run on that product. Should be loads of new modelling for shows from rmeebbers when they resume!! 22
RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Good morning everyone Breakfast has been consumed and Sheila is getting herself ready for her Zumba class, once she’s gone I’m heading outside. The weather is currently cool, cloudy but dry, so the plan is to do the gardening that I didn’t get done yesterday. There are still a few leaves to clear up and I also want to cut back the old buddleia down, so that I can dig up the roots. It’s getting far to big and Sheila now doesn’t like the colour. I also want to dig up an escallonia bush that isn't looking very well. These will both be replaced by plants that are currently in pots. Enjoy the day, back later 20
Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from the boring borough. No panic shopping (apart from beer) has been undertaken. We managed to find everything we needed apart from TP. We should be good for a couple of weeks. 07:30 in Sainsbury's on Saturday was very busy. Many aisles that had been restocked were already empty. Nothing we needed though. Supported local with a visit to the Butchery in Bermondsey along with some of the other market stalls along Spa Road. Fresh pasta, cheese, bread. No idiots either. Maltby St market was a ghost town though. I feel for those food stall owners if they have to close for more than a couple of weekends. The tap rooms in the beer mile were very quiet as well. We did however manage to precure over 50 bottles and cans for the bierkeller and brouwerij-fridge. I've decided to self isolate. Not due to the virus but I'm just tired of dealing with tw@s, c*ntpuffins, ar*sebadgers, tw*twaffles, cockwombles, and general all around asshats. Sadly, as I work from home, I'll still have to deal with coworkers over MS Teams & Skype. Meh. Another bloody meeting calls. Enjoy the day. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 A nice sunny start to the day, which means that the rain will arrive about 15 minutes into a big cutting and routing job I have planned. This requires various machine tools moved out onto the driveway. I much prefer to work this way, even thought I do have a decent sawdust extractor. Besides cutting up some MDF sheet also requires a mask, even when cutting outside. Goggles and ear defenders also get used. All being well, the OFMC will self isolate in the garage this evening. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 (edited) Morning All THREE DAYS IN A ROW - SOME SORT OF RECORD So with the usual generic greetings to the ailing and the celebrating, and an assurance that all posts have been read and rated, I offer the thoughts of 45156 for the coming day and the past 20 odd hours. Fodder run was completed, and I think that choosing Aldi at Carnforth was a very good idea indeed, as it was fully stocked, including a reasonable quantity of bog roll and paracetemol, and just about everything on the shelves available. We arrived just on opening to a queue of about 70 or so shoppers, but once we were inside, there was no real evidence of panic buying and the guy on the checkout said that it was "a bit busier than normal". 30747 duly taken to work, and I will shortly be off to LASAR where I will have to wear gloves to sort the books, but otherwise will just work as normal. I do wonder how many of the charity shops will fare if the self isolation of the over 70s does become a reccomendation/requirement, as many are staffed by those in later life - myself just about included in that category now - as I'll reach 68 in May. Then it's back to pick up 30747 from work, and home to a dinner of Lidl's delicious southern fried chicken with chips and sweetcorn. Oddly, even though Lidl and Aldi both have the same supplier of their chicken products, 2 sisters, the Lidl version of Sothern fried is a lot nicer IMHO. Back tomorrow(?) where the tasks of the day apparently include waiting for the fencing to be delivered, and "bottoming" the bathroom using a very strong mould remover, and also the steam cleaner - oh frabjoy. Regards to All Stewart ps - I just meant to mention this morning's panic, as we went downstairs, and 30747 was searching for her ID and access tags for work - which she swore were "chucked" ot top of her dressing table - and which were not there. I suggested liiking in her handbag - "I always get them out and I remember chucking them onto the dressingtable on Friday" - so she searched, in the dressing table drawers, down the side of the dressing table, you name it. So where were they - you've guessed - in her handbag where she would not look except as a last resort. Edited March 16, 2020 by 45156 15

RMweb Premium Popular Post PhilJ W Posted March 16, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 16, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny here this morning and predicted to last at least until Wednesday. When I open my e-mails of a morning there is usually a number of people wanting to join some of the groups that I run. Among this mornings applicants was a lady who looked familiar, she works part time in the local chippy. Its a local (Essex) old photographs group that gets some railway items from time to time.

My son's partner's father is an ex-GP in Lombardy, so right in the centre of the Italian spike. His advice - very strongly worded - was to wash hands frequently and when entering the house (any soap will do, it's the 20 seconds that matters), wear a proper mask if you can get one when in places with other people, keep a distance of at least a metre from others and wear gloves when handling anything that may have been handled by another person. Rather different from some advice in the UK, but he is dealing with this every day - he has been called out of retirement, but as an older person is being used to do telephone advice work. Stay safe, no need to take risks. Julie and I are self-isolating because we have been out of the country and passed through airports. We feel fine at the moment, but we are both in the high-risk groups. We are also suspicious that we may well have had it - all symptoms match- after Christmas when we met some people from Spain who had also been ill. 1
