Waiting for the train at Reigate with barriers still in operation but kiddies smoking weed on the platform which really affects mmy ther half off so told barrier staff who did go and have a go at the kiddies but of course they just denied all knowledge of anything. Even

the conductor on tbe GWR was aware and reported to the platform staff at Redhill where they got off. I told the kiddies I had them on Facebook and posted online but they just went out the non barriered exit on platform 3. What a waste of resources supposedly to stop all this

Unfortunately I didn't bother reporting any thing to Govia GTR as you just get a crap response.

Ladies and Gentlemen, before you continue reading this, please go to the lavatory, and use it appropriately, otherwise you are likely to have an accident when laughter overtakes the bladder function.

 

The Obergrumpenfuher decided last week that the en-suite bathroom needed a lick of paint.

 

Since the skirting boards were of MDF (why in a bathroom?) it was decided that these needed to be replaced with 'proper' wood.

 

Then a crack was noticed in the sink, so that required replacement as well.

 

Finally,it was decreed that the flooring needed replacing because the existing floor, put in some time ago by the PH and myself, was not really what she had wanted.

 

Once all the materiel had been assembled, everything that required removal was ripped out of the en suite, and reconstruction commenced.

 

The new floor went down nicely and I then decided that the priority was to first reinstall the WC.

 

That went back in without any problems it was tested, and then a cup of tea (plus obligatory cake) was taken.

 

When I went back upstairs, there was a small puddle on the floor, so an investigation took place.

 

Despite my best efforts, it appeared that the soil pipe was leaking, so having switched off the water, I removed the soil pipe.

 

For the life of me, I could not track down any split in the pipe, so had a quick wipe up and then observed further.

 

Water was still appearing on the floor, so after pumping out the water in the WC pan, just in case there was freak capillary action occurring, I checked again.

 

Again there was a puddle, and by sitting on the WC and  facing the cistern, I started running my hands around the base of the cistern and found the leak.

 

One of the close coupling washers which had given up the ghost and was weeping.

 

It was at this point that I thought the cistern has to come out so decided to flush the bloody thing.

 

Yes, although I'd remembered I'd switched off the water, I  managed to forget that less than five minutes before, I'd removed the soil pipe!

 

Have you ever tried to catch a couple of gallons of water with your fingers?

 

Let me tell you that it is nigh on impossible.

 

Still, the floor got a nice wash, and the hallway floor below is still getting a drip wash.

 

I'm going to install the basin tomorrow morning.

 

The Obergrumpenfuhrer has just gone to find her umbrella!

WATER DEPARTMENT CRISIS AVERTED!

 

Turns out I had turned the thermostat on the heater down as far as possible without actually turning it off. The pump house was pleasantly warm. I should probably remove the control knob and lock the thermostat shaft in that position permanently.

Thanks Mike, best news I've heard all day!  Lets hope you're right; its got to end sometime, otherwise there'll be no room for all the toilet paper stashed in cupboards all over the place!

What is it with toilet paper anyway, surely food items are more important but people are consumed with the need for more.  My wife, in her wisdom, always buys such items on sale, so we are already well stocked.  Not sure of sanitisers, but we wash hands anyway.

  Now, if it were Tim Tams going short, I'd buy a gross box!

Sadly, this appears so.  My wife and I were going to T-Town to celebrate her birthday but cried off which was possibly an overreaction  but as we are virtually self isolating possibly the right choice.  Also, I don't want anyone jabbing their elbow in my ribs.  Stupid idea, even Trump didn't know what to make of it!

Here in La Belle France our President has apparently announced the closure of all bars and restaurants plus some other measures.  Tant Pis as they say here. I'll just have to go to the local distillery to stock up on supplies of liquid internal antiseptic. 

 

I'm now going to raise a glass of the Scottish version and point it towards Hipposhire to thank him for giving me a good laugh. I suppose he's just grateful that the loo had not just been used for it's proper pupose.

Evening awl, Just back from the sailing club.. 

Earlier I painted the keel in woodworm killer. 

Painted the wooden bits of the inkle loom with white paint. 

Cut 15 pieces of threaded rod for said loom

Cut 15pieces of plastic tube to go over said rod.. 

Added lots of nuts and Penny washers to said assemblies. 

Sat having a Muggacoffee  when

I looked at the keel..

Yep measuring tape out, keel is too tall... 

Good job it's only dry screwed together.

Lay keel flat, lay sheet of ply on it.... 

Keel is 6 inches too tall. 

Take it all apart,  cut 6 inches off of verticals

Put it all together.. 

That's better, 

Put it down again,  give it it's second coat of woodworm killer.. 

 

At the SC, 

Where we didn't win any trophies for the first time in 18years.

It was however a good night,  with mountains of food,  and good company.. 

It looks to have been a very successful year,  pity we had to miss it. 

 

 Ben the mugger Collie was all over SWMBO,  after I gave her a small piece of ham I brought back for him... He was searching for more even when told..  All gone..

Good evening everyone 

 

Well this morning, we were out a lot earlier than I’d expected to be, in the car and setting off just after 10 o’clock! When we got round to Vickie’s, we were informed that we would just be having Ava today as Evie was going to a birthday party that she’d forgotten about. This just happened to be at the Trafford Centre, se as we were going there we dropped Vickie and Evie of there. The three of us then did a bit of shopping, Waterstones was the first port of call as a book by one of Ava’s favourite authors has just been released. We were able to get the book in question and another for half price, these will be given to Ava and Evie at Easter in lieu of chocolate. We finally managed to get home just after 12 o’clock, in time for an early dinner.

 

After dinner Ava and I watched an old 50’s black and white film, ‘Night Of The Demon’. Ava wanted to watch this film as Kate Bush sampled some of the dialogue in one of her songs, namely “The Hounds Of Love”. Vickie and Ian called just after the film had finished and for stayed chat with a cup and a slice.

 

Once they'd gone, we had a quick tidy up before Mike and Sarah arrived for tea. One of my chicken curries was on the menu and it went down really well. We then decamped to the living room for a chat and had a glass of red.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. In the news this evening, the government is considering making all over 70's self isolate not for 14 days but for several months. What cockwomble thought that one up? I live on my own, the relative who lives closest to me is my brother who given his health problems is already at high risk, he is also older. Most of my friends are of similar age to me or older. It would be difficult to self isolate for a week let alone for months.

The panic-buying of toilet rolls is a problem. I was in Tesco earlier and there wasn't any to be found on the shelves, searched all the ends of aisles up and down the store too. I asked at the information desk as well after a bit of a wait to ask if they'd got any out the back. No chance but she was a bit short with me.

 

It was pretty embarrassing walking back to the gents with my trousers around my ankles.

I am a fan of "over the front" but would stipulate that this can cause runaway near the end of the roll. It seems that (at least the brand I buy) no longer glues the end of the roll to the cardboard tube, but to a fold of paper wrapped around the tube. This has good and bad effects.

My routine is palpably changing. When I turned the TV on this morning, college basketball from 2015 was on. That hardly mattered since I wouldn't have watched basketball anyway, but would have turned the golf on. Instead of the 2020 Players' golf tournament (which is cancelled), today NBC rebroadcast the third round of the 2019 Players' golf tournament. I turned it on anyway as background noise and assembled my LEGO Fiat 500, which along with the laundry took all afternoon.

 

All the late night TV shows having earlier planned to be performed with no audiences, will now be on hiatus. I find having a good laugh before retiring helpful in these trying times.

 

Enough complaining. All this is a great opportunity to create and/or play with our miniature dominions, or read a book, or assemble a jigsaw. I might turn to some more LEGO.
