Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all, with warmest wishes for Mick’s brother and family BlackRat, thank you for your sound advice yesterday. The cull has begun and there is no going back. The first comic to be cast out from my collection will be Rail Express. I want to salvage the series on Mostyn, which has more instalments than I had recalled, but the rest will go as soon as room in my recycling bin is available. The extent of the task ahead was brought home to me yesterday when issue 900 of Rail arrived. That is by no means the only magazine to which I subscribe. Autocorrect thought that I should have written “survive”. Stupid autocorrect! The news from Ireland is not good. The St Patrick’s Day parades next week in both Dublin and Cork were cancelled yesterday. All of a sudden it appears that the chances of Dublin Pride happening in June are very much reduced. As yet there is nothing on the webshite. I e-mailed the organisers and received this answer: “As our Pride festival is so far away we cannot be sure of what will happen this year. As it stands we are going ahead but that could change in the weeks or months ahead. We will follow expert advice to ensure people are kept safe and healthy. Sorry I cannot be of more help but as it is changing all the time, it is currently impossible to say what will happen by June.” Can’t say fairer than that. It remains my view that all hell will be let loose if it is cancelled but I am beginning to question the wisdom of proclaiming that I would attend come hell or high water. Today I visit Poorly Pal in Stevenage. There will be sandwiches, there may well be m*d*ll*ng and in the evening we shall attend the AGM of the Hitchin chapter of the Royal Corps of Train Spotters. Their chairman describes it as the annual outbreak of democracy. Modesty forbids me from revealing the origin of the expression. Best wishes to all Chris 13 1
Popular Post Robert
Morning All, It's a filthy morning today! Heavy rain, and blustery wind. Quite exhilarating, but it wasn't a particularly nice drive to work this morning. Thinking of you, your family and especially your Brother, Mick. Have a good day everyone... 3 1

However, when sorting for two moves ago, I discovered that there were some issues missing. I'd thoroughly gone through the collection and removed (from the staple-bound issues) all the adverts to reduce the space required and organised loft storage for them but after my last move, I've been through some of them and thought "what's the point?" So far, I have consigned about 20% to the recycle facility; I do try and keep anything of my own doing, however! I have now whittled some ten subscriptions into just two, TR:E and TR:UK. If I 'need' any others, I'll purchase them next time I'm in the relevant country! I now just get TR:E as hard copy and two other mags electronically each month but others are just as and when there is something in them that I wish to read. Morning all from a damp Surrey. A new batch of crust earning collected yesterday, one diesel and six kettles to weather. Maybe some more digging if the weather improves and possibly a start on the patio extension which will make use of the rubble removed form the back of the garden.

RMweb Premium TheQ Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10, 2020 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 999/625 Another odd nights sleep, 1.5 hours, 4 hours 1.5 hours which isn't a bad total.. Yesterday just after lunch, the exertions of the weekend caught up with me, I suddenly felt exceedingly knackered to the point of dizziness. Luckily I was sitting to work and remained so till pack up time.. I did try electronic magazines, in a effort to reduce the Magazine mountain but found I disliked the experience. I have cut down to just two modelling magazines RM and MRJ. When the next cull occurs, I will just keep those magazines with anything specially of interest, The Highland Railway and The Midland and South Western Junction Railway. Reading up on The landrover starting problems I discovered a note from someone that if you hold the starter on for 10 seconds after it has gone click and done nothing. Then retry starting it may work... it did.. The thought discussed afterwards in that thread, is that dampness has got into the solenoid, holding it on heats it up, dries it out, then it works.. It'll only be temporary but should allow me to keep using it while I get the bits to fix it.. With that it's Time to go carry one from where I finished.. 3

So try this - DSB 0-6-0 steam locos And Mick sorry to hear about your brother but at least it sounds as if the Medics are doing their best for him - fingers crossed. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Thoughts with Mick today and I hope your brother improves rapidly. A grey start here after a wet and windy night. Mixed weather forecasts so it will either be dry and cloudy with bright spells or there will be outbreaks of rain or drizzle. Watched the recording of Bristol v Quins yesterday, wish I hadn't. Thames Water visited at 9.30 last night and our sewer has been rodded, cleared and is now flowing freely again. Good-oh! Mike, I very nearly fell foul of that marriage allowance tax scam a few weeks ago. Clicked on the link as it was the first one I came to and I wasn't looking properly and it wasn't until I saw terms and conditions and their extortionate charges I realised what it was. Just shows how easy it is to come a cropper when you're not giving something your full attention online. Needless to say I then found the HMRC site and our claim went in and a refund was in our account within a few days. I now have an amended tax code for this year and next so will now be paying less tax and I think I will get some more back. Next week I was due to go into London Town for an Old Boys School Reunion. This has now been postponed until further notice. Quite sensibly in my opinion. The school closed in 1969 so the youngest of the 60 odd attendees would be in their mid sixties and the majority in their 70s and 80s and even a couple of 90 year olds travelling from all over the country and also abroad. Today as usual Joe and Gemma will be here after school. Joe's got a couple of free periods so has already asked if he can come to lunch. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 Morning all from a cloudy and damp place. It's muddy outside as we had a lot of the hard standing area scraped yesterday. It used to be a parking and turning place for lorries but over the years moss and leaf fall had built up to make it a grassyvarea that has turned to mud this winter. It looks rather muddy now but a bit of rain should wash thstboff and leave it a lot better. Quizzing was done last night and a bottle of bubbly came back with us. We will soon be talking to daughter and granddaughter then i have a bit of painting to do to finish off the current set of shutters. Not a lot else planned so time might be spent doing some muddling. Thoughts very much with Mick and his brother and family. Regards to all. Jamie 18 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 Up early this morning as the Borders MRC running day beckons. Time to give the new pannier tank a run out: I've only had it about 6 weeks and it's yet to turn a wheel. Ditto the Hymek. The Obergumpenfuhrer is under the impression that both these are from my existing stock and not new acquisitions. Who was saying that all panniers look the same and diesels are all boxes on wheels? Bang on! Prior to departure, various admin tasks need to be completed, such as clearing the carefully laid out modelling implements mess from the table in the conservatory. The local craft club is being hosted by the Obergrumpenfuhrer this afternoon, and my presence, and the presence of my various projects, is not required. 22
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10, 2020 Good morning everyone It’s still raining, but thankfully is isn’t heavy rain. Breakfast has been consumed and shortly I’ll be heading off to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, it will be a little earlier than usual and I’m sure to get caught up in the great local school run. This is because Sheila has a 9 o’clock appointment with the hairdressers and I’m dropping her off there on my way. The up side is that I will be home a lot earlier than usual. Due to the weather there will be no work done outside today, so the plan is to do some more work will be done in the cellar. Enjoy the day, back later.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 Mawningawl, Some g-word was completed yesterday, I with the lawn clipping machine whilst SWMBO trimmed a bush or two. As it persisted down most of the afternoon and evening, quite a while was spent on the tome that gets me from cradle towards grave for my grandchildren’s information. This is something that I am doing as it is, in my experience, only when we can no longer ask that we wish to know more about our family’s past. It is quite amusing to intersperse text with images that bring back memories in their own right - such as the Model Y Ford that was our first family car and the RMS Stirling Castle, the ship that brought my father back to the UK after his internment as a FEPoW. Grandsons were taken to their golf lesson and were, I’m told by their tutor, quite good at adapting to putting and chipping in wet conditions. Today may see me chauffeuring again, this time she wishes to meet friends at the Buckinghamshire village of Olney. Lunch will be taken there if this trip doesn’t succumb to the threat of pop bottles and gatherings of old people. That will cause me to miss my weekly piscatorial purchases for the second consecutive week. There is a meeting of the Sports & Social Club development committee at which my face should appear and Tuesday also has cribbage later in the evening. Thoughts are with those suffering, particularly Mick NB, hope things improve for all concerned. Time to Baz the day.... 19 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post Ref44 Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 A variety of planned projects are currently on hold while we "Dog Sit". The animal in question belongs to our daughter who if the virus outbreak hasn't impacted on her loacl hospital was due to be admitted today re the birth of the first grandchild. As is the way of such events, the period of animal care is uncertain, so I've no idea when normal service will be resumed. Having said that, it is currently too wet to try and give the lawn a desperately needed cut. 8
RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2020 Morning all. Aditi did get the lawns (rather a grand description for the front and rear grassy areas) cut yesterday. Then it started raining. So she did some pruning.I made tea. A day of general pottering today. Guinness. I really like Guinness. Though I am constantly told here are other dark stouts, etc. However my reason for drinking it is that I like it. Also it is often required as a cooking ingredient. There will be plenty for cooking here now as I really seem to have “gone off” any alcoholic drinks. Water and tea seem to be all I really want now. RMweb Gold Shedman5 Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted March 10, 2020 Morning, Grey and damp outside, the rain has stopped for the time being. Not sure what's happening today need to check with the boss. Guinness I remember a phase of it being drunk with blackcurrant juice in it, which was okay until someone had one too many and was sick. It looked like they were bleeding to death! Whilst I do like Guinness two pints is enough for me these days, without blackcurrant !!! Enjoy your day Alan
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted March 10, 2020 (edited) I quite like a Guinness or several. Normally drink it if a bar has no decent real ale available. P.S. Seemed to taste much better in Ireland. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted March 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted March 10, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Dry but grey outside and blowing quite strongly but warmer this morning than it was all day yesterday. Glad too see that most organisations are treating the coronavirus outbreak sensibly.
