Evening all, what a day, got a text last night from muddling chum, be ready for nine in the morning, you're being taken out for the day, wear warm clothes, bring walking boots and your camera. So here's me wondering what this about, SWMBO informs me it's a belated birthday gift, just do as your told(that would be a first), so I'm thinking we might be going hill walking...………….could not have been more wrong. We went to Doune to the Deanston whisky distillery, the warm clothes were for sitting in a very cold bonded warehouse, pulling bungs out of barrels and sampling the wares inside, then into the café for lunch, superb, but why the boots and camera? says I.

Off to a bird hide to watch Red Kites being fed, so walking through muddy fields, looking at some of the photos we should not have done the photography AFTER drinking all that whisky.

Evening awl, 

Just back from the MRC where I had a shortage of mojo...,  eventually forced myself to get some stuff done.  Not as much as I should have. 

Coming back cars parked up were already frosty,  it's distinctly chilly out there.. 

Plans for tomorrow,  ivy clearance,  keel making,  Inkle loom construction,  not necessarily in that order.. 

 

But first time for my choccy..

Just heard, there was a suicide at my local station (Basildon) this evening. Some poor soul jumped in front of a train.

My eldest brother didn't respond too well to surgery.

So they have put him in an induced coma.

SiL is a "travelling" nurse, based from the hospital where he is and isn't too worried as it's a common thing to do. I have to value her words.

 

Nephew has been with him for most of the day and has nothing but praise for the NHS staff looking after him.

 

A number of years ago, my FiL had a severe stroke that eventually claimed his life, but in those few days, we had nothing but admiration for the staff on the frontline in the hospital, looking after him.

 

Work is probably going to be worked this weekend, but if anyone calls up CS with a "where's my trainset" question, they may not get a sympathetic response.

Good evening everyone 

 

This morning’s visit to the Trafford Centre was quite eventful, the BBC had a film crew there filming ‘Rip Off Britain’. There were quite a lot of them too and try as I might I couldn’t avoid walking behind someone who was being filmed as they seemed to have several cameras on the go all the time. Apart from that, it seemed to be a bit quieter than usual!

 

After dinner I managed a couple of hours sat at the dining room table with the soldering iron and completed 6 MERG kits by the time I packed up for tea. 

 

In the early 60’s, I remember the radio being on but I didn’t much care for what was being played, the likes of ‘Elizabethan Serenade, English Garden’ were constantly being played, I still have a strong dislike for that type of music. I not sure if my mother ever listened to pirate radio or not as I was always ‘playing out’ as a kid. We emigrated to Canada in 1967 and so missed the very beginning of radio 1. I did occasionally listen to ‘Luxembourg’ but like others have mentioned, the constant fading left a lot to be desired. I always enjoyed John Peels late night show and Alan Freeman’s Saturday afternoon show as they both played so of the more obscure stuff. By the mid 70’s I started to tune into the local commercial radio stations began to appear, which played throughout the night. They also played some of the more obscure acts.

This report is coming to you from near Rostov on Don.

 

Took off on time..lobster thermidore for our meal (as recommended by St Enodoc and his good lady)  Managed 7.5 hours of sleep then world war 3 broke our between the couple in front of us..all about...booze Pah!

 

Indian airspace very bumpy. ..luckily we are in an A320 not a dreaded Boing. 

 

Youngest Herbert has secured tickets for me and him to see Genesis in Leeds. My wallet has screamed a bit at the cost but it should be good.

 

How did they squeeze you into a Gnat Dave? They were tiny.  Lots of the fighter versions on display in India...

 

Now eating a beef sandwich and a cup of coffee!

 

(By the way, take a punt and get on long haul now..never seen planes so empty)

Good morning one and all

 

I have a late breakfast today, courtesy of the LGBT social group.  For reasons best known to themselves those organising it seem to think that 10 am is a suitable time for the most important meal of the day.  I shall have a pre-breakfast at home!  Tonight sees “The Navy Lark” at my local theatre and I am looking forward to it very much.

 

I have not done a fodder run for a few days so cannot say whether the craze for panic buying has come to Bedford.  All I know is that last time I went shopping my search for bread pudding was in vain.  Perhaps its oh so welcome appearance recently was a one-off but I shall keep looking.  On the subject of panic buying, I am staggered at how many bog rolls are said to have flown off the shelves in the past few days.  I do hope that diarrhoea is not a symptom of or precursor to the arrival of the virus.

 

I was about to sort out my travel insurance yesterday when I learned that Trinity College, Dublin, is infected with the virus.  As this is where I am due to be staying at the end of June I am just a little anxious, but a lot can happen in three and a half months.  I have until 20th June to cancel my booking with no financial penalty.  Insurance is one of those things that makes me cynical.  I came to the view long ago that it covers everything except what happens.  The current situation should provide a suitable test.

 

Tomorrow morning, bright and early, I shall be heading for Leamington Spa for the show.  I missed it last year because I was out of the country.  Excuses, excuses.

Lots of deep cleaning appears to help with sorting the virus out. I have recently read it is live for 24 hours on surfaces.  We just need to get everyone to wash their hands and cough into a paper tissue.

Somehow Baz, I think that's a hope too far looking at the behaviour of people around me at work et al.

It's a bit like all those people who think public transport's a good idea so that everyone else can use it and leave space for their Chelsea tractor on a road they think they have sole rights to.

Morning folks, it smells cold here, but haven't ventured beyond the bathroom yet. Shortly to go make a cuppa and some toast before I collect a work colleague and a friend (2 separate people) so that we can go and join a team of others playing tr@ins. The roster is a bit short this time, so the tr@ins might not run 'to time'.

6.5 hours sleep so far will try for more,  until brown eyes decides otherwise. 

 

Mention of a water tank reminds me that last night I finally decided where to place  the tank on my layout,  it'll have to be scratch built I know of no kits for the unusual type used in the highlands. 

 

Yesterday at work I spent waiting time working out alternatives for steering Blue moon,  I'm happy with the final solution I've come up with.  I also need a "granny handle " as some one put it.  That's because  I'll be sitting almost in the bottom of the boat with legs out in front of me.  I need something to hold on to to haul myself off of the floor.. It can't  impede access for me or get in the way of the controls.   I think I can combine the supports for the steering gear with the grab handle.
