Popular Post Ian Abel
POETS... Yesterday nothing to report at all other than the license renewal fiasco - that was more than enough fustercluckery for one day. No much expected to happen today, as the client informed me yesterday late that next week we have to make some major changes AGAIN to several reports - what a surprise!!!! Apparently I can't start on those changes yet as the required new accounts and shuffling of data between then won't happen until Monday <groan> <sigh>. So thumb twiddling will ensue and then I'll POE appropriately Not much planned for the weekend, except a birthday party to attend Sunday, friend of ours who's birthday is the day before mine and has a party that is effectively a "joint" affair for her and myself! Can't complaint that there's usually a party that neither I nor the Mrs have to prepare for! -10 and sunny here, expecting a high of -3. Some vague suggestion of a snow flurry or two later, but only a small chance... Carry on.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 28, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Had a rummage in the bent and battered boxes at Tess Coes today and came away with a couple of pens and a roll of selotape all at less than half price. Also the other day I came across a 4 pack of LED bulbs with one missing at a quarter of the price. Today I found an identical bulb also at a knockdown price because of the sllghtly damaged box so thats made up the 4 pack. 2 minutes ago, Gwiwer said: I was going to read up and post but the cry has gone up "PUTTHEKETTLEON!!!" ........ RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 28, 2020 I have just had a cup of tea and a toasted tea cake. Aditi went off to Tesco earlier as she had a few ancient Tesco vouchers due to expire tomorrow. We don’t go to Tesco much now, their credit card offer wasn’t as good as someone else’s. The big Tesco in Pitsea still has (though not as good as it used to be) the best selection of things like lentils and beans locally. Waitrose only had what is trendy. Aditi was amused by an article in yesterday’s newspaper about prepping for Coronavirus and buying small packs of rice to avoid wastage. She said for Indians the 10kg “family pack” is small. She hasn’t returned from Tesco, not because she is stuck in the bargain bin but she has gone to Basildon for a swim and sauna. I know this as she phoned from the restaurant at the pool. Absolutely it is. And so are the 25kg sacks of chapati flour. I well remember my days living among what was then a large Indian community around Manor Park, East Ham and Stratford. Unless one went to Sainsburys it was near-impossible to buy a 1kg bag of plain flour. There was any number of small Indian-run "corner shops" (not all of which were on corners) with all manner of necessities from rice to ghee to Bollywood DVDs. But most of the kitchen necessities came in Indian-family sized quantities. Rice and flour typically in 25kg sacks. 10kg was definitely small. Thus concludes another week at the House of Fun. Wet and cold would again describe matters. But I now have my "Little Hotties" heat pads which keep extremities nicely warm and - tucked into the beanie - keep the eyes from watering because the forehead is toasty not freezy. SWMBO has no plans for tonight except gazing at the idiot-tube. I have things muddling to deal with. Another request has been sent to Fraggle Rock. Tomorrow we are out for dinner and sampling the Italian restaurant up the road opposite the Green. That will be new for us; the reviews are generally quite good and the menu more extensive than just pizza and pasta. Best wishes to all and especially "Stepladder Mick" for a swift recovery. 20

It covered the entrances to ports in the Northwest, primarily the Columbia River and the Strait of Juan De Fuca. In Britain the RAF operated the land-based marine patrol aircraft, but it's not much of a stretch of the imagination to think of the Fleet Air Arm managing this function. The USN still manages the maritime patrol mission, today using the P-8 Poseidon aircraft. Service rivalries are as old as military organizations. The USAF was not formed until 1947. Prior to that the US Army Air Corps (later US Army Air Forces) were not focused on maritime activities - that was a navy job. Naval Air Stations still exist as do Marine Corps Air Stations though there have been a huge number of base realignments since the end of the cold war, most of them in the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure process. 2

The picture is of Cape Meares I am still ensconced with a view of the southernmost of the Three Capes - Cape Kiwanda. After two bright sunny days, today sees a heavy marine layer. A storm system is moving in. I will drive home in a couple of hours. I drove up the Three Capes drive yesterday (the potholes traversing Cape Lookout are still bad) with a view to stopping at Cape Meares. I abandoned that idea when I could see a band of heavy fog sitting on the cape and went directly to the Air Museum. Cape Meares was named Cape Lookout by British fur trader John Meares in 1788 (who was off the coast between visits by Cook and Vancouver). Unfortunately official 1850 / 1853 charts got confused and the Cape Lookout name got attached to the cape to the south. To avoid further confusion in subsequent charts, John Meares' name was attached to the northerly cape. Since I was last in Tillamook, the Cheese Factory has opened their new visitor centre. So I had to go and get some ice cream. Edited February 28, 2020 by Ozexpatriate 15

It still runs on Win 7, and with all the Windows bloatware, it is very slow in booting too. Registry cleaning helps, but not much. Try Ubuntu Linux instead. Whilst there are updates as necessary, they usually do not require a reboot and when they do, it usually takes between 1 and 2 minutes if you're unlucky. Go to your local newsagent and locate the magazine 'Linux Format'. Each issue comes with a DVD which contains at least one flavour of Linux that you can boot from without damaging the contents of your main discs so you can try it out before committing to it. 1 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted February 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 28, 2020 Evening. odd day - it was horrendous when I went to the club, 3c, p!ssing down and blowing a hoolie. About 2, the sun came out, wind dropped to merely 'windy', and it warmed to 10c in less than an hour. Odd weather. So I muddled down the garage, ballasting, ballasting ballasting...ugh hate doing it. Then had to go sh*pping, Mrs NHN a bit crook due to having had a hip injection that has left her lame for a few days, so this was the first time she felt able to supervise. Lush, sh*pping on a Friday......need that like a hole in the head.

From experience, get yourself down to Boots (other suppliers may be available) and purchase a bottle of Geremolene New Skin Liquid Plaster. Just paint it onto a (preferably moist) wound and (at least for me) will reduce any scarring and form a good seal to the outside world. 2

RMweb Gold Popular Post PeterBB Posted February 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 28, 2020 On a computer - no way of catching up so many pages so congratulations and condolences as needed. Have missed the use of a computer and likely to be a similar feeling in the near future. SWMBO says that I should buy a new one ... we will see but all I hear about PCs is not good and Macs are expensive ... would really interfere with a well know activity of those who use this site. Skimming through I saw some mention of adverts on this site ... I hadn't even noticed that we had them but on looking yes adverts do appear. Like the idea of 'Gold' but much prefer to read things in print rather than screen ... its also much easier to go back to check and then return directly to the correct page and of course reliable computer and something called 'bandwidth?'. Apple seems to think that I am at least two major OS behind as my machine cannot update them and as for updating MS Office for Mac ... why do we have less availability and greater cost ... but my version cannot be updated because of my old Mac OS. 3
