RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Morning all, it's raining and blowing here and cooler than a couple of days ago. Fortunately we got the repainted shutters hung and the next batch into the shed when it was dry. They are now rubbed down and ready for undercoating. 6 holes were squared up, 30 to go in this batch. The evening was devoted to bing watching the last 3 episodes of The Stranger, on Netflix. It was worth it. Phone calls to be made this morning, then painting. Not a lot else on the agenda at the moment. There are some unmentionable objects with 4 wheels to assemble. Regards to all. Jamie 20
RMweb Gold Popular Post BoD Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Morning all Bright and sunny on the Costa del Durham. There is no snow forecast here and, unlike yesterday, no frost either. I have just been given one of the new plastic £20 notes*. Upon it is quite a good picture of ‘The Fighting Temaraire’ but the artist portrayed looks nothing like Timothy Spall who painted it. * it’s next month’s pocket money since you ask. 4

Incredible stuff and never again. I took one 10mil dose in the afternoon and nearly fell over about 10 minutes later, completely poleaxed. Very sensibly a note on the bottle advised those taking it not to drive - first time I've ever found it to be valid advice as I was left finding it none too easy to stay awake. What was it please? I, like you, am normally immune to the 'drowsiness warnings' even when the medicine is supposed to make one sleep; something like this might be just the trick...... RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Pouring with rain here and 2°C with the chance of it brightening up later. Two of the three bin lorries expected today have been and gone. No adverts but a wide annoying space to the RH side of the screen. I am quite happy to pay for RM Gold. It is after all less than £1 week for full access to the site plus the digital magazine and a ticket to one of the Warner's shows. TBH I'd pay that without the magazine and ticket for what I get from the site. It's better value than daily newspapers (which I stopped buying long ago) Despite the rain after breakfast we will be heading for Sainsbury's as certain comestibles need replenishing. Following that who knows but a large shed hasn't been visited for a few days. I should perhaps take a leaf out of Polly's book and keep going. Possibly. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2020 Good morning everyone It’s rained over night but isn’t at the moment, however the skies are blue and there’s a strange yellow object in the sky! Well it’s back to the old routine, Sheila is going back to her Zumba class for the first time since mid-January. I’ll be dropping her off there as there are a number of large puddles on the road that shed walk along and as the road is quite narrow in some places, the chance of getting soaked is greatly increased. Once I’m back home, I intend to once again head down to the cellar and continue working on the desk and shelving I started several weeks ago. Enjoy the day, back later 12

RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 (edited) Good morning, Charity curry night raised over £800 for very local good cause but the venue was so noisy I struggled to hear much and we came home early - much to someone’s chagrin! As my normal BRM subscription was about to renew, I upgraded to RMWeb Gold and therefore can’t comment on what other (lesser mortals?) see. Like our Gentleman of Sutton, the present subscription seems to be at a valid level. As for weather, Hitchin, I am told, made the BBC’s weather news as it was - and is - snowing there/here. I do like the peace that surrounds any snowfall, perhaps to do with my aural challenges. Of course CowboysRUs can break any such tranquility with their ghetto blasters and obscene language... Photography club competition night tonight and I hope my two entries achieve a higher score than the two in the last competition. I know I will not be challenging the leaders but learning from the process is why I’m doing it. I doubt we will be snowed in, particularly as the frozen precipitation now seems to be getting finer, suggesting the temperature is rising. Like one or two other members report, I have some remaining lurgi symptoms, calling for unwanted coughing and sneezing to be alleviated by that which brightly coloured tropical birds have consumed in their entirety. I do have a couple of packs of disposable tissues available in case. I suspect we are yet to see the full effect of globalisation aiding the spread of viruses and that, as two other threads on here have alluded to, we may see the consequential deferring or even cancellation of some sporting events. If you are suffering, get well soon. If you are sailing to The Windy City of Wellington, keep your hat on. If you don’t fit into such categories, do it in comfort and style as should be accorded to travellers not using standard, third, second or business classes . RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Good morning from an advert free mobile phone. As long as the advert ms do not impede on what I am trying to read I don't mind although nothing on the adverts have any interest to me. I am another one who isn't keen on the new software and I notice that I get very little interaction with the few posts that I make on other threads but it might just be mine have becoeless interesting since the new software. So I don't post anywhere as much as I used to despite having more time to use the forum. I am WFS again finishing off another batch of weathering. Other half is WFH once she gets back from the dentist. Later this afternoon it will be beer o'clock. Back in Hippo land, I hope these two are both male having just come out of the gents 16
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Morning all. It is rather overcast and the garden looks very wet so I assume it has rained overnight. It has been suggested that I need a haircut so that will happen later today. I had to solve a technological problem last night as Amazon Prime stopped working on my television. Fortunately turning it off at the mains and back on again solved it. When ChrisF mentioned an after party at a museum in Dublin, I did wonder which one. I didn’t think it would be the Leprechaun Museum, he GPO, EPIC or the Little Museum . A Google search suggests an ex army barracks is the venue and located near the Red Luas tram line. Have a good day. Tony

RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 On Newsnight last night there was a report that local governments had been asked to identify sites for mass graves. Then there was a report about flooding. I can imagine some poor person at the council offices having to deal with both. In Germany my nephew’s girlfriend is organising an international conference next week. It is still planned to go ahead. Tony 18
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 I thought it was too warm here but we are having sleet at the moment. Aditi’s sister rang from Enfield and said she won’t be taking MiL shopping today due to the slushy conditions. Aditi will take whatever she wants when she visits on Sunday. I think it is a snow shower here now rather than sleet. Not settling at all though. Tony 16

Yes when it hangs and we have to wait a minute it can be frustrating, but in the real world of today so what? In days of yore Andy Y would pass the hat around occasionally, and I was happy to drop a few coppers in then. Less than a £1 per week is excellent value. 21 1 3
Popular Post 34theletterbetweenB&D
Morning all, one of my rare visits. Cleared the snow, but shouldn't have bothered, melting fast now. An amusing discovery last night, going through the masses of old paperwork as part of house clearance ahead of exchange of contracts on my in-laws' home. The wife and I knew her father was falling over literally daily in 2019, on a couple of occasions requiring trips to A&E. I would check every time we called, and yes he had fallen, but always the same 'Don't tell my daughters'. (I did of course.) There was one such in July; he had attempted a walk to a nearby shop and taken a tumble, bruised and cut his arm, and had patched himself up alright; so no problem. And there in a file along with old energy suppliers invoices (perfectly logical place to file it) was a letter from the lady who had rescued him on that occasion and taken him home. The letter of acknowledgement and thanks went in the post after snow clearance. Better late than never, she has probably near forgotten about it... Best to all, especially those in difficulties. 17
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 I don’t mind the adverts, I am just amused at what the algorithm selects as appropriate ads. On Twitter you can click to see why you are receiving the advert. Usually something like “blah blah blah wants to contact people over 18 in the UK”. Not sure why I got publicity from Raytheon about drones, and I don’t mean toy drones either. Tony 14

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Morning All Mick/Barry - the Lune was very high, but not the worst ever, as that certainly was in 2015 after storm Desmond, when it rose so high in Lancaster that the main electricity sub station was innundated, and the city was without power for a good 24 hours until generators were trucked in, and the power company actually provided mobile catering (free) in a number of locations, In Caton, there was debris everywhere, including a domestic heating oil tank which was deposited about twelve feet above the normal high water level. The "bottom" Wetherspoons never recovered and is still up for sale, as the cellar was almost irrepairable. Chrisf - I now know what you mean about the sticking handbrake on your Polo, as my Seat, which is on the same chassis and engine has the same problem, which is a lot worse during the damp weather. Everybody else, all posts are read and rated, and I offer the usual generic greetings, and also an apology for absence, as Lily had to go to the vet's on Tuesday for her ears, then went lame on Tuesday evening and had to be seen again on Wednesday, and what with one thing and another, I didn't manage to get here very much. 30747 has volunteered to work today, and I need to pick her up for 12.30 then we'll probably go to one of the local fish and chip shops for lunch. Don't really like the new layout, but like Ian, I can remember keeping the site going, way back, by sending Andy a tenner or so, when there were only a couple of thousand members, and it was actually costing Andy to run it, not paying him via Warners - so IMHO the adverts are a necessary evil. Back tomorrow (?) Regards to All Stewart 17
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 27, 2020 Train from Blenheim to Picton 10 minutes early. Met up relatives who are also visiting down here. Lunch was excellent. Ferry crossing good due to free food and drinks on it. Arrived early but by the time the driver had parked it and we had got our bags we were late. In true fashion it is blowing a hoolie here. Collect hire car then off to peikakereki in the morning. Time for some sleep! Baz
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 27, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. I noticed the sleet/snow this morning but it now seems to have stopped and theres now no sign of it. The usual bin wagons dawn chorus complete with the lesser spotted glass and bottle wagon, they were in and out quickly this week and the bags had gone by ten. An idle day today I might get a paint brush out and go round the kitchen and base coat all the walls and ceiling to eradicate more of the previous owner filth its all been sugar soaped but the grime is embeded in the paintwork. Better get on enjoy your day moaning about bin lorries and VW golfs M. Aliniosater Edited February 27, 2020 by 81C 12
