Brian, this is much more complex. It is little reported in the US right now because the US media so distracted by the election campaign and Washington right now. While it has origins with the hereditary chiefs of the Wet’suwet’en first nation and a RCMP enforcement of an injunction to permit work on pipeline in BC to progress, it has expanded into a greater fracas over first nations' rights and differences of opinion on who can speak for first nations' peoples in terms of elected tribal bands versus hereditary chiefs. If you Google it you will find many different sides reported. An outsider's view from the Washington Post can be found here. It has become very political, and I don't profess to have any deep knowledge of what is actually going on. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 (edited) Added to the Kiwis list of method of self destruction (after bungy jumping, jet boat driving, white water rafting, car driving).....swimming across a sea inlet into the wind (but with the tide pushing you along). These people are friendly but nuts! The can of beer in question was a small 250ml one. At that price a pint would be £15. Popular Post leopardml2341
Mornin' I'm awake 'cos Doggo is (was), little b@gger! Trust me; there is a dog in there and he did that himself. Still, the only thing I have to report is that it is still blowy out. I suspect that more eyelid inspection will be difficult, time for a cuppa - it mostly does the trick in such circumstances. Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all Now shall I go to the multiplex today or tomorrow to see “1917”? Tomorrow would be better. This frees me up to do something else today. I have an idea where I might go but I fancy making it a surprise. I should be impulsive more often. It could be fun. Yesterday I played host to a young man selling roof insulation. My loft was insulated over 30 years ago. The fibreglass or whatever it was has, he tells me, been ravaged by time and the elements A house that is 130 years old is bound to be in need of some TLC. I am minded to get an upgrade to the insulation but the funding is not in place. The salesman was very keen to walk away with a cheque. No doubt he was but I am not prepared to write a cheque which cannot be met from available funds. I may have missed out on all sorts of enticing discounts but that’s show business. What I have got is the findings of a survey that cost me nothing and a quote that is valid for 12 months. All I have do now is make up my mind. Just after I posted yesterday the news broke that June Brown will not be returning to EastEnders. Her portrayal of Dot Cotton has confirmed that she is arguably our finest character actress by a considerable margin. Yes, I watch too much TV but she was worth watching. Best wishes to all Chris 13
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 22, 2020 (edited) Morning all from a distinctly cool Charente. By our standards I should add rather than Minnesota. It was 0 C as we drove home from a quiz last night. A day of relative rest has been ordained but no doubt various things will need to be done. If It does get as warm as promised this afternoon some more shuutter painting and grass cutting may get done. Regards to all. Ozexpatriate
We've had overnight temperatures flirting with freezing much of the week. The compensation for this (and the cause) is clear weather with high daytime temperatures flirting with 15°C. After an exceptionally dry and mild early winter, and a seasonably wet January, we now have a very mild and exceptionally dry February. The weather in the last few days has been delightful but of course we are now behind on our rainfall again and the snowpack has dropped to 88% of "normal". It is forecast to rain over the weekend, but next week is forecast to be nice again. 18

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Morning from a windy Surrey. Been in the shed already. Did contemplate work in the form of doing my first resin test but decided ot wait till next week. If all goes to plan I may have my first casting to sell, the signal cabin that was at Blackmoor, Chelfam and still is at Woody Bay stations. Must load the DCC and stokc ready for the drive to Tenterden soon. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Consuming the morning muggocoffee before setting off for a Midland Railway Society committee meeting at Derby. Unfortunately the flooding of various railway lines and the widespread lurgi have conspired to prevent several members from attending but I don't expect any travelling troubles for myself (there goes the cock-eyed optimist again). I've set the recorder for the rugby so that will be my evening's entertainment. Have a good day all (Baz - Sleep tight). Dave 20
Popular Post 5 C
Morning awl from a blustery but so far dry, Bedfordshire. The plan for today was to have pruned the buddleia. I will leave it a week however, as it may just be a tad too early weather wise and more importantly, the wind will make it an unnecessarily challenging exercise. I'll still venture out later though to move and re-home the black recycling box that's deposited itself on the front lawn. After last weekend's not one but two shows displaying small versions of things that run on parallel strips of metal, I'm sure to find something indoors to do instead. Maybe even some muddling. Breakfast is done. Second muggertea is on the go. Regards to all. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Ey up! A lie in this morning was followed by a walk about. Akoroa is a nice place to visit. This afternoon we watched the swimming race (across the inlet) followed by more mini races, kyak races, surfboard races....get the gist ..its sea and you can swim in it. The water is deep enough to have cruise liners moor in it. As part of the race the swimmers have a kyak "minder" just in case. Didn't see anyone being rescued..but the water is reasonably warm. Tomorrow involves driving to Christchurch. Not far to travel as the crow flies but, due to the mountain in the way, it will takeabout 1hr and a half and is about 88km. We are visiting the museum at Ferrymead before dropping the hire car off. Next part of the trip is by train. Christchurch to Blenheim. Grab the day! Hope everyone is safe from the weather. Best wishes to all who ail. Baz

Is this any use: https://www.moneysavingexpert.com/utilities/free-cavity-loft-insulation/#freeinsulation Even if you are unable to do it yourself, a quick measure of your floor area divided by the number of rolls required from one of the big sheds will soon tell you how much they are charging you for the privilege of rolling out a few rolls in about 2 hours or less. As for "ravaged by time and the elements", what utter b*llox. Just how many snowstorms and hurricanes does he think you get in your loft? Unless the price is silly cheap, my guess is it'll take so many years to see your money back on energy savings it'll not be worth doing, bearing in mind you already have insulation there in the first place. In any event, it'd be worth getting a few quotes.... 5 16

RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Dull and quite breezy here and it should be a mainly dry day with some sunny spells but the chance of showers later. 21st party day today for Abbie although her birthday isn't until Tuesday. (More celebrations then as well!) The Boss who is I/C catering has already started in the kitchen and I've been told to keep out of the way. Suits me. I may even venture to The Shed and fire up the soldering iron. Rugby watched last night and Sharks well and truly dismantled Tigers. 6 Nations this afternoon but I'll only get to see Italy v Scotland. I get the feeling that Italy might just nick this one but Scotland certainly won't roll over. Could be a good game. Have a good one, Bob. RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Morning, Muggertea #1 downed, e-paper read and ER posts caught up etc. Baz, do take in a winery tour when in Blenheim, we did the extended six location version and I enjoyed it whilst SWMBO will no longer drink anything else! I hope you find that central Christchurch continues its slow recovery from the devastation caused by earthquakes earlier this century. A 6-Nations weekend dawns and I expect it will be a close run thing at all venues. I may have to record today’s matches as other things have been placed on my calendar by those with whom there is no point in arguing / discussing / questioning - I know my place! That I shall be trimming trees in a hooley may seem unwise but I do have life insurance and SWMBO was checking the policies were up to date yesterday. Stay safe and warm everyone including ChrisF, at least you have some insulation in your roof space and whilst more will improve its efficiency, there is something in the law of diminishing returns. No doubt the full survey that the promoter’s young man would need to have done by another person would then reveal a need to do more work before the original extra insulation could be installed - or am I just an old cynic? If you are travelling, take care because, to misquote the desk sergeant on Hill Street Blues, “it’s rough out there”. I must away, there is something to be seized in order to stop the cat-o-ninetails being used again... 18 1

RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Wood burning: the MiL quotes an old saying along the lines of "the closer to the front of the alphabet the better it burns." I just burnt my Christmas tree and she's right, although I've now got a big clear-up job to get rid of the pool of melted plastic. I'm guessing "Arboretum" would go up a treat!
RMweb Gold Popular Post Shedman5 Posted February 22, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 22, 2020 Morning, blue sky ! No rain ! Still have a strong wind though. Absent yesterday so lots to catch up on due to my visit to Model Rail Scotland. It was a really good day and a very nice cooked breakfast was had courtesy of Avanti West Coast. I purchased one or two bits but refrained from buying a O gauge loco which was on offer, very tempting I must say. Exchanged pleasantries with Mick ( New Bryford) who seemed to be busy on the stand and met a couple of other RMWebbers though they do not post on this site. So a good day in all some excellent layouts which I guess don't venture south of the border much. Well worth doing and will do it again next year. A few bills to pay this morning ,general admin stuff and the shed this afternoon well thats the plan we will see. Enjoy your day folks Alan 20
