After a couple of hours there we returned to the car and it wouldn’t start. We phoned the AA and they said they would attend within 50 minutes. It was nearer 30 and the tests revealed the battery had failed.The AA man had one on the van which we were very happy to purchase. He soon had it fitted and we were on our way home. Lunch was nice, still serving the winter menu, we both had wild boar sausage toad in the hole. The restaurant was very busy, it looked as if lots of grandparents were entering small children today. There were lots of indoor activities which considering the weather was good. The gardens are putting together a new South American area. Tony Given the age of my car (57 reg with 44 1/2 thousand miles on the clock!) and that I had been graced by the AA for 'my loyal membership of long standing', I managed a visit to the local Halfords branch and am now the owner of a multifunction device (JumpStarter) which not only allows me to jump-start the car but also includes a USB supply port, 230V 3-pin outlet and compressor to sort the tyres. AFIC, it has already paid for itself and is due to be used in the next few days as the car has only ben out once this year and when I wanted it for the second trip, there wasn't enough umph to fire the starter so I had to resort to taxis! 13 9 Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...

Our visits to Kiwi were sufficiently long ago that photos aren't on this machine, must look for some. Mrs NHN's father and step-dragon are naturalised Kiwis hence our three extended visits over the years. The first time Debs had seen a photo in a brochure of Mitre Peak at Milford, when we got there we managed to replicate the picture exactly. We flew in, in a 7 seater flown by an Air NZ 747 pilot on rest & recuperation - apparently this was after every so many months of long haul work, they loved doing it. We got a deluxe tour as being Poms made us interesting for him! We had the option of emigrating to NZ, the relations mean we have right of entry, but considered we would get bored there after a few years, and came here instead. Sadly one of our near neighbours passed away and it's his funeral tomorrow, that's my gardening buddy gone to the great greenhouse in the sky, might be late on parade tomorrow. We still have a bit of work to do before we venture west then north on the A65/M6. I have persuaded the other members of the van crew that we have to set off at a "sensible" hour, so that we can have a late breakfast at the caravan at Devil's Bridge at Kirkby Lonsdale....... A bacon, egg and sausage teacake should see me through to a KFC for tea after we've setup at Glasgow show. Intermittent catch up for the next few days folks. Stay safe. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted February 19, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 19, 2020 Good evening everyone It’s been a mixed bag with the weather today, some rain, but thankfully not heavy, started mid morning and lasted for most of the day. It finally eased off during the evening and it’s currently dry and very little wind. I’ve stared a case against the electronic supplier and it’s now just a waiting game. This nicely brought brew time and after a nice muggertea, I finally managed to get the soldering iron out, by dinner time I’d manage to build another 6 point control circuit boards. After dinner I decorated the cakes I made yesterday, before setting off to pick up Ava, Evie and Max up from school as they were staying for tea. The chicken curry and rice went down well and so did the cakes! After I’d taken them all home, it was a quick tidy up in the kitchen and then we sat down to catch up on some recorded TV. The reason I know that so well is that back in the Stone Age when I began dating the present Mrs. H she was obsessed with the film of that name and I was persuaded to see it about three times (the things you will do when a callow youth trying to get into woo a girl) which scarred me for life. Anyroad up as they say in the best places, I'm hoping that tomorrow as I've promised to do one of said Mrs. H's favoutite salmon dishes for dinner that may earn me enough brownie points to get in some quality workshop time. After 2 weeks road is due to be reopened tonight. It was ok last time we visited 2 years ago but the cyclone before the last one caused a fair bit of damage. Australia and New Zealand are feeling the impact of bad weather a covid. The roads here are a lot calmer ..apart from the Kiwis who don't drive at any speed other than flat out. A lorry today was trying to push us along...then he slowed down. I wondered why until a police car passed us going the other way ..the power of the mobile communication systems!!
