Dennis has moved away from here too.  The wind is easing.  Intermittent heavy rain is still forecast by the Seaweed Wranglers and the aching joints. 

 

I'm off to inspect my eyelids.  Sleep well - or as well as your circumstances allow.

Junior NB turned up at United's desk at 5.45am this morning to be told that they had overbooked and she was number 11 in line and unlikely to make it on board.

Much running from T2 to T1 and she's now in the air on her last leg to Pittsburgh via Dublin and Chicago. Tracking via Flightradar24.

 

Golf wasn't played. MiL's house move didn't occur thanks to the non-appearance of helpers that had said they would turn up. I will now leave the remaining shifting to others.

 

Due to the golf and move being cancelled. I ventured to Preston to visit Transport Models to collect some supplies. Unfortunately, they are in the midst of a closing down sale. The opportunity was also taken to see a large green thing billowing steam.

 

 

It later passed by my house on the return leg, but I omitted to press the video button........

 

 

At least the hockey was a great game.

The home leg of a two-match Midlands Cup Final against the Solihull Barons.

1-0, 1-3 and 3-3 to end P1. 3-4/4-4/4-5/5-5 at the end of P2. 5-7 within 3 minutes of the start of P3, pulled back to 7-7 5 minutes later. And that was the final score to set up the second leg to determine the cup winners.

Not certain whether to travel to Solihull tomorrow, as I'll be without Junior NB as co-pilot and it looks like the worst of the rain and high winds will have passed through.

I will decide sometime during the day, dependent upon the weather reports. and if I can find a friendly passenger to share the M6 experience.

 

Have a good Sunday folks - I plan to start mine with a lie-in.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Dennis is still blowing a hooley here but there's no sound of rain. Arthur Itis still reckons there's more to come though. I discovered on Facebook a video  of clips from the Sweeney that included railway items and scenes shot on BR property. I've put it on its own thread.

Well we didn’t get walking to the Indian restaurant, or when we walked back! I think we timed it very nicely, as we’d only been back about 10 minutes when the heavens opened up and it chuckinitdarn. 

 

We all all had a great meal and I’ve probably eaten far too much, but what the hell, it’s Sheila’s birthday tomorrow and this was an early treat.

All being well I will exercise my "Superb Senior" ski pass tomorrow with my pal John and his adopted 14 year old "grandson" Jeremiah. They are not really related but John has taken Jeremiah under his wing. Naturally Jeremiah is a snow-boarder which gives us an opportunity to take the whizz. Unfortunately he is getting a lot better than either of us, me particularly.

 

It would be a shame to let all this snow go to waste. At the last count the snowfall there this season was 336 inches (more that 8.5 meters) and even after it's compacted there is still about six feet of the stuff all over the mountain, and it's still snowing.

Good morning one and all

 

A combination of crawling out of bed too early after a late night and what I profoundly hope is the last manifestation of the lurgi made me feel rough yesterday at the Biggleswade show.  On the bus back to Bedford I dozed fitfully and supplemented this with a couple of hours under the duvet at home.  I apologise for being at less than peak alertness at the show.  I was looking out for familiar names and less than familiar faces but have to say that I did not achieve total vigilance.

 

Today should not be too strenuous.  I shall be at an event at the Higgins, a museum and art gallery, in connection with LGBT History Month so it behoves me to at least try to look intelligent.  There is not much in the diary for the week ahead apart from Area Group and my b*rthd*y so perhaps I will be able further to recharge my batteries.

It's cold wet and very windy out there,  Ben the helpful Collie dragged me out,  for obvious reasons I wasn't going to deny him.  

He was sick yesterday morning we joined in during the night,  he's been very good,  not getting in the way during a dash to a small room.  He just came to the side of the bed after to check on us.  He's lying in the hallway now where he can see if either of us try to escape through the front door.. 

 

My heart is pounding as a result of just from the short morning patrol, I need a Muggacoffee which will have to wait till my heart  has calmed down.

Strange to remark, Dennis did not seem to behave as predicted - at least here it didn't, and we had a solid 8 hour sleep.  Because of the dire prognostications of the seaweed twirlers, and the issue of an Amber warning for this area with threats of road flooding etc, I decided not to take up my ticket to see TIm Kliphuis at the institute in the next village.  Instead I had a couple of glasses of Chardonnay with my meal, which meant that I couldn't drive anyway, so the gig was duly missed.  It would have been fine, as the rain and winds were nowhere near as bad as expected - it was the same last week with Ciara,

 

Nice to see a few missing ERs coming on to post, and a couple of newbies too - all are welcome here.  Great to see Lisa posting after a very long absence, as she, like a few others here, was a member here from almost the outset of RMWeb, all those years ago, when Andy set it up in direct competition with Warners, with a view to providing a more vibrant forum.  As a matter of curiosity, I'd be interested to know how many of us go back that far.

 

Generic greetings are, of course on offer to the ailing and the celebrating.  Happy birthday for next week, Chris, in case I forget (my memory isn't as good as it was - comes to all of us, I guess).

 

Yesterday, 30747 uttered the P word, so the brushes and rollers were obtained from the garage, and 5 litres of Johnstones' best emulsion was unlidded, and deployed on the walls of the upper landing and stairs - and this will continue this morning with a view to getting the shelves and pictures back up this afternoon, as it has been decreed that two coats are to be done - wow.  However, I have also found some of the wall plugs supporting said shelf have worked loose, and the holes have enlarged, so will need some attention before the rehanging of the shelf in question.

 

I've just been promised a full English to fortify me for the coming jobs,

 

LASAR tomorrow, so possibly no visit then until Tuesday.

Morning all from from a Dennis free corner of France.  Nice and sunny here and a quiet night was had.  Glad that most of you seem to have survived safely though the lurgie seems to be in the rise.

 

As to Phantoms, watch this clip at about 5.00 

The pilot was Supersonic of this parish  known to DC as Uncle T doing his first deck landi g whilst on secondment  to the RN as part of his test pilot training.  As to the Poor Buccaneer  pilot who followed him apparently  he went on to have a very successful  tour. I always liked the look of the Phantom and built an Airfix one.

Ey up!

Cyclone hasn't appeared yet. Spent the day visiting Queenstown and then onto Glenorchy.  Excellent coffee, cake and ice cream in Glenorchy.

Nice walk as well.

 

If anyone else visits this neck of the woods beware the drivers (and also some of the cars).  They either do 45kph in a 60 kph limit or they ate doing 75 kph in the same limit. Sent a nice view...well just stop...

Now time for a little sleep as we have another busy walking day tomorrow around Arrow town and Wanaka.

Morning all,

 

Dennis has whistled through, lashing Luton with wind and rain. As I write, there is a lull in both, allowing time to inspect the first casualty - a fence panel belonging to my neighbour on our shared boundary. ISTR it's one she replaced not that many years ago, so I doubt she'll be best pleased. Obviously that spot is particularly vulnerable. My wheelie bins remain face down and weighted from last weekend - there was little point in moving them.

 

Yesterday saw a few hours spent at the Biggleswade show. It seemed a little quieter than I remember from previous years, probably on account of the weather and my arriving at lunchtime. There did seem to be a steady trickle of visitors throughout the afternoon. I can report that the coffee & walnut cake was particularly splendid. I spotted a few familiar faces from the local exhibition circuit, including @chrisf who I chose not to wake from his slumbers in the canteen. Hope you're feeling more energetic today Chris. A couple of l*youts caught my attention and I spent some time chatting with Tony Wright and admiring his latest creations featured elsewhere on this site.

 

Weather and roads permitting I shall venture out to the Milton Keynes show today, before returning to the familiar Sunday evening grind of ironing and cleaning. Hoping work will be a little quieter next week with it being half-term and I can look forward to finishing at a sensible time.

 

Stay safe out there.

I'm not really envious Baz. There's plenty of good coffee and cakes in Arrowtown plus a brewpub serving excellent meals. The mining history and the migrant Chinese miners is fascinating stuff too.

Good morning all,

A very wet and windy night here and it wasn't me, honest Guv. At one time it seemed as if a fire hose was being directed at the windows. Still quite breezy and raining steadily and apparently it will stay like that for a while yet.

Rugby watched yesterday as usual and the Tigers managed to sting the Wasps! That should make a couple of members here quite happy.  Quins managed to lose at home to Irish so I'm rather glad that wasn't televised. Today I will be watching  Northampton v Bristol which could be quite a good match. 

I made a brief visit to The Shed but only for "planning" purposes...that didn't go too well so I won't dwell on that. 

The Boss was up about 7.30 and brought me a muggatea but then decided to go back to bed as it was "too early." I can now hear movement from above so hopefully the magic words "Would you like breakfast?" will be uttered soon. I can already smell the bacon and eggs. 

After that who knows what will happen? I don't.

To borrow a phrase from AndrewC, good moaning!

 

Muggertea #1 made and drunk, fire saved. Well, the trip northwards was wet and rather windy with crosswinds affecting most vehicles on the M1 beyond the Bucks - Northants border. Some six hours later when I was on the other carriageway, the rain was less but the winds remained the same. At least this time the few lorries on our side of the road were downwind although those heading north were struggling a bit and kicking up vast amounts of spray. The gathering we attended was very pleasant although with my dietary restraint and rejection of alcohol as driving, I was unable to partake in what seemed like a fine spread with copious amounts of falling down water provided.

 

Wind remains this morning, as does some rain. I suspect more of both will make their presence felt at some stage. The current score in the nearby garden is Menace 0 Fence panels 0. That could change with the sodding sodden ground conditions. Given that they lost their court case and face a significant bill, I suspect the fallen Madonna with the big boobies panels due to Ciara may continue to lay on their “lawn” for some time to come. If rumours are true that they intend to challenge the decision (they represented themselves after all), I foresee in my crystal ball that an even larger bill will become due. The sodden ground conditions also preclude any idiot keen golfer taking exercise at my local course as it is closed. 
 

On the cards for today therefore may be a little tweaking of a composite photograph which, generally, I am reasonably happy with, a little cookery and maybe something unmentionable to use materials purchased in Old St Evenage and Barcelona last week. I do not have BT Sport so will listen to the clash of Saints and Bears which hopefully will not be too influenced by Dennis.

 

As the NHS prophets of doom suggested overnight that 50% of the population could now get Coronavirus, I do hope you escape its visitations and recover from any other afflictions.
