We have a bit of a frost this morning, and the temperature is down at around 0°C.

“Tonight sees another step into the unknown for yours truly.  The slightly spurious LGBT season at a local theatre features a film, “Les garcons sauvages”.  It gets me away from the TV …”  If only that had been true.  There was no sign of life at the theatre save for assorted people arriving for a rehearsal.  If the showing had been cancelled it was without much effort to notify intending patrons.  It’s a pity, for the film would have been the best of an admittedly poor bunch of presentations in the season.  I have a ticket for a concert at the same venue tonight.  I wonder what will happen.

 

One crumb of comfort from last night was happening upon some footage of Kangaroo Island on TV which I would not have seen had the film I went to see been shown.  This was in one of those delightful programmes where robots are used to film wildlife.  The robot koala captured some delightful images of its live counterparts, including a vicious looking fight.  Fortunately the programme was made before the bush fires.  Kangaroo Island does not look like that now.  The habitat will grow back but the same cannot be said of the wildlife.

 

Today the usual pleasures await – ironing, fodder run and cooking lunch, but not necessarily in that order.  In addition I have some junk mail to bin.  The latest example invites me to have my eyes tested at home.  I am mildly intrigued as to how that could be done given the array of equipment required but as I am reasonably sound in wind and limb I have no intention of finding out.  Already “they” want me to have my prescriptions collected and delivered.  Is it really such a bad thing that I am still allowed to walk the streets?

Raising the octane to heptane ratio in petrol reduces the tendency for the fuel/air mixture to pre-ignite when it is compressed. Octane might possibly be more expensive to produce but it doesn't have any more energy in it than heptane.

 

If your engine isn't complaining don't waste your money on higher octane petrol than it needs.

 

None of the above applies to diesel engines. They compress the air before the fuel is injected into the cylinders.

Morning all from a still dark Charente.  I got quite a bit done yesterday and we are even starting to get caught up with recorded TV programmes.  My fist task this morning will be a tip run to dispose of several months worth of accumulated rubbish that is currently  filling the trailer. Some phone calls need to be made and the last of the post needs sorting.  I have also made a stzrt on the various railway type magazines that were either bought in the UK or arrived while I was away.

 

As to mobile opticians, it is perfectly feasible. One of my Suster in law's has sold her practice and gone mobile and is doing very well.  There is a big demand from such places as retirement homes and people who are housebound. My brother in law has also got out of his business and is now Barbara's driver, gopher and business manager. All the equipment goes in the boot of the car.

A better nights sleep of about 6.5 hours was had..

 

03:30 the military fly boys were buzzing around the north sea for some reason..

 

Ben the Border Collie, decided he would go out this morning despite the rain, he headed for the nearest bush added considerably to the down pour and ran back to the house..

 

The journey in was hard work, max speed on the wipers, unable to see the markings on the NDR roundabouts, big puddles everywhere.

Overnight someone didn't make it through effin clown town, at the double mini roundabouts they well and truly took out the steel fencing that stops the pedestrians crossing the road across the roundabouts.. They must have been going well over any sensible speed..

 

Of course until terminal 5 was built there could have been a very unpleasant landing at Heathrow, should an aircraft have overshot or landed short.. straight into the sewage works..

 

 It is recommended that you run a "quality" petrol through an engine once in a while as most supermarket fuels don't contain the cleaning agents of BP or Shell.. 

 

The boss is still struggling with the broken system, I've got the temperature meter to finish and  a DC current transformer unit, 100 A needs finishing..

 

Time I wandered down the lab and got started..

Morning all.

We are off towards Southend soon. I have my first session at the “Heart Failure Clinic”. I think the purpose of this is to start increasing the medication every couple of weeks until the optimum dose is achieved. It isn’t far from Waitrose which is handy as we have some parcels to collect.

Aditi went to see a film in Chelmsford with a friend last year. They were the only two people watching the film, no one checked their tickets. She said it was only when the film started that they were convinced they were in the right place.

I have recently seen a sign on a house here a notice "we have 2 dogs ..if you come in without an invite....you won't get out"  these Kiwi can be quite straightforward.

Good morning!

 

I do hope Tony isn’t going to a clinic that delivers coronary failures. A piece in today’s electronic Times suggests that people over 65 who play golf will find it quite preventative against heart attacks and strokes. If only I could play the bl@@dy game!

 

Yesterday’s walk was completed but my stubborn plantar fasciitis didn’t approve. For a second night running, I walked to the local pub but the meeting was not too successful as two attendees both forgot or got involved in distractions so didn’t buy their rounds. Shame upon them.

 

I am designated taxi driver for a villager who has just had surgery on his shoulder. He needs to be collected from his gp practice having been dropped there by his wife on her way to work so I have the joys of travelling amidst the school run. I am sure that the presently vacant periods in the rest of today’s schedule will soon be blocked out as instructions are handed down. Two days ago, I took a series of pictures of a saxophone to create a triptych but the background hasn’t come out as perfectly black as I wanted so I may take more today, or I may just involve myself with some parallel bits of nickel silver sitting on plastic.......

 

May suffering be diminishing. Be good or be careful (GDB please note) and preferably both.

Good morning all,

Dry here at the moment with a hint of sunshine after a very wet and windy night. A breezy day with heavy and possibly thundery showers with hail forecast. 

Multiple bin lorry day today but they're late arriving.

Still feeling very lethargic so no sheds were harmed yesterday. I did however (at the suggestion of The Boss and she will pay ) pre-order a little set of wheeled thingys that could run on my layout (if it ever gets built) The hope is that it will arrive in time for our anniversary in June as they are supposedly imminent. I won't hold my breath.

A couple of weeks ago we visited a couple of jewellers to look for something for her. I seems that the something she would like is gold with a diamond. The diamond does not need to be big. That's alright then. 

We're off to Sainsbury's  shortly and on our return I will be baking. Victoria sponge is today's choice. It's been a while since I have made any cakes or even eaten any so am looking forward to it.

Good morning everyone 

 

Well the sun is shining, but we’ve obviously had rain overnight as everywhere is wet. Very shortly I’ll be dropping Sheila of at her Zumba class, she’ll be going a little later than usual, as she’s not taking part, just going along to take the cakes in and have a coffee with everyone. Once I’ve dropped her there, I’ll return home and make a start adding all the link wires into the bare circuit boards, it’s about all I can do until the rest of components arrive. I might just place an order with the “bigger” but more reliable alternative today and tell the other company where to stick their order.

Busy day today the dog to feed ,solicitors, tidying up and a host of other jobs I'm out for dinner tonight with my Babe, we shall be doing Valentines as well pizza out then on the sofa here for

a film she will be my first visitor to the flat so a big tidy up tomorrow and fresh linen on the bed.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. The bin wagons dawn chorus was drowned out by the wind which also blew a few bin bags and even wheelie bins around. Just had a word with the builder about the soakaway. Before I had my fence installed the next door neighbour had a low brick wall built just within his boundary. I had my fence built on the boundary a couple of inches from the wall. Except where is close to the building where there was a junction box with no alternative place to put it so the fence had to be 'stepped' about a foot inside the line. This formed a box between the wall and the gravel board which has been filled with stone. The intention is to fill the gap between the fence and the wall with stones which means a ready made soakaway. All that is needed is a 6 inch diversion of the downpipe. Also the front garden slopes down from the house at about 1 in 6.

Lovely looking six wheeled shunting implement there from God's own railway Richard!

 

We've just managed to avert a domestical disaster at our 'umbe abode - the postie's just delivered a package of hair dye for herself, as she was opening it up one of the pots fell out and smashed on the 1930s tile floor the hallway, quick as a flash we grabbed some wets kitchen towel and managed to mop it all up before it stained the tiles for good, black and white squares with dark green streaks and spots isn't a good look...! Herself was getting bored of being grey and has gone back to her old habit of changing her hair colour every few months, the package contains pots of  various shades of green, purple, red and blue. This time next week the bathroom will look like an explosion in the Dulux factory...!

Speaking of that, we actually got to brave it while we were visiting my parents oop narf for a couple of days. No damage to their house or any of our possessions occurred, but it was blowy up there damn right! The storm also came with heavy rain which lasted for a couple more days, on and off.

 

Annika had a lot of fun during our stay, although she has caught a cold now, so Elise took her to the doc this morning. Nothing that a bit of cough syrup and an extended weekend of resting shouldn’t be able to mend, though.

 

Hope you’ve been well, or at least improving if that shouldn’t have been the case.

I have returned from Southend. More tablets. I now have “water tablets” which are  something I remember old people frequently  talking about. 

There was nowhere to park so Aditi went off the nearby Wetherspoons and drank coffee.  She was surprised how busy it was at just after 9am. 
It is raining here now.

Greetings from LBG where it started raining about three quarters of an hour ago but has now stopped.

 

Work seems to be a place where people have descended to squabbling over things in their own little empires; it doesn't take much for years of "getting everyone out of their silos" to revert to primitive tribalism. However if there actions mean we pay more tax than necessary through daft decisions it won't be their fault!

 

The rest of the Lurkers have nearly made it to another half term. They are looking forward to it. I shall come to work.

If we go into a Spoons for breakfast just before 9am there is often loads of people waiting for the top of the hour to start ordering alcohol. I do remember being in one in Leicester (this one now boarded up) one Sunday morning where a woman was leaning on the bar trying to stay upright after a heavy night on the booze waiting for 9am. The staff still served her despite the state she was in.

 

One for Baz, Dunedin station with the weekday service train from Christchurch to Invercargill back in 1994. It was dark and wet by the time we got to Invercargill so no shots of the station. Shame that the train doesn't run anymore.
