I did brave the elephants elements today and headed for the piste. Conditions were not bad and at least I could see what i was skiing on.

 

I had an IPA (the potable variety) and chili-cheese fries at the bar for lunch where I copped this pic that may be of interest to some members of this august institution.

I swore that I would never have another cat after Tyger crossed the bridge, but on the way back from the Columbia (SC) train show about a year or so later I stopped at the Fairfield County animal shelter and ended up with Wingnut:

As I told friends: "I came back from the train show with a machine gun and a cat." No one asked about the gun, only about the cat!

In our significant and intense conversation in September where she told me what she wanted about 'arrangements', Sandy said that I was to get another dog, as we both knew that Kerry was ill, as the vet had been keeping her going since July. We had eleven dogs together, up to five at a time, and they've all been rescues. I've followed Sandy's wishes, but got her to agree that I'd wait until I retired, in a couple of years, and I said I'd try to get a pair of older dogs that could not be separated. It would not be fair on a dog to leave it alone while I'm at work, especially in an unfamiliar environment. I was able to take Kerry into the hospice to see her a few days before Sandy died so they were both able to say their farewells.

 

That's the plan. Any other dog will be a rescue.

But I did tell the vets today that if they had a dog that was looking for a home then call me.

Those are the intentions. However I may not be able to resist if the right companion were to appear.

I would love a dog. So would her indoors but we are not always at home and summer saturdays amd sundays me be a problem as some cricket grounds ban dogs..for very good reasons.

 

If we do get one it will be a rescure dog and probably a bitza.  Haing said that if I could have brought my new friend minibus the wombat home I would have done.

 

The way things are going cricket wise looks like 2021 may be my "gain a dog" year.

My brother in Devon has just got another dog as their current best friend is now getting on and not expected to be around much longer. Luckily both dogs seem to be getting along fine, both sleeping together.

 

Andy ID - you are making me thirsty, plenty of Deschutes taps there, the Black Butte is our favourite of theirs but will have to wait a few more months before we have chance to have more of it.

 

Luckily today we will have an early beer o'clock in Croydon.

 

But first more crust earning as I will be in  the shed shortly putting the first coat of weathering on the next batch on On30 locos and giving EXE another test run.

Good morning one and all. Condolences to Andy and John.

 

Before I head up the A1 to Doncaster I have one thing to say.  I send warmest thoughts to Phillip Schofield for his announcement yesterday.  Take it from me, coming out is never easy.  Some will recall that I came out 18 months ago at the age of 70.  I will never forget the kindness and support extended to me at the time.  To do what Phillip has done so publicly must have taken so much strength and courage.  Well done!

I wholly concur! I would love the companionship of a dog or a cat but living on my own and having a 'day job' that keeps me away from home for nearly 12 hours each weekday means that I would not feel comfortable with the idea.

I was the Scorer (ACU&S qualified) for Petersfield Cricket Club and Hampshire Cricket Association for several years and regularly noted the behaviour of club members' dogs; they would walk up to the boundary but would NEVER cross it. Training is key!

On a general note, I have long held the adage that there are never enough resources (usually time and money but others may come to mind) to do the job right in the first instance but there is always plenty of said resources to put it right when it fails to work.

 

Why do I mention this?

 

It seems to me that nobody bothers to check what they are posting. Hence, spillong mistooks, missing letters, etc.

 

Just an observation.

Oban's a nice place to stay and visit,  been there many times waiting for the ferry to the isles.. 

 

Getting to the MRC last night I ended up following an enormous piece of farm machinery touching the grass both sides,  I got past when it had to follow a wider bit a road and I took a shortcut,  down a lane that the bushes almost brushed the car down both sides.. 

Having harvested the field Thursday they ploughed it on Friday,  I've never seen them be in that much of a hurry before.. 

 

The club was reasonably attended including a prospective new member, I was told the Tuesday main meeting was very depleted by the lurgi. 

The muddling went well but the grass planter needs new batteries.. 

 

We are beginning to consider a friend for Ben the snoring Collie,  so we won't be without a canine friend. 

 

Time I think to rejoin Ben in the snoring...

I too am a big fan of Black Butte Porter. I am also partial to Deschutes' ESB (only available on tap in Bend) when it is cask conditioned, though I only see Bachelor Bitter listed right now. Speaking of cask conditioning, there is a tiny brewer of cask conditioned, English style ales (hand pumped) in Redmond called Porter Brewing Co.  I enjoyed my visit there last summer.

Morning all.

i have no idea about the weather, I haven’t opened the curtains and the hearing is on. Aditi has just informed me it is quite warm and has been raining. She went out to put some rubbish in a bin. 
Our neighbours are returning from Wales today so I will pop round and put their heating on. Today seems a better day to travel than tomorrow.

I am not sure if we are going to Enfield today, Aditi keeps changing her mind. She has an invite to meet some friends for a drink at lunchtime in Benfleet.

Good morning all,

Plenty of rain in the night but now stopped and it should be a dry day with sunny spells.

Up early at 5.45 because I've been awake most of the night, not sure why but the usual aches and pains are there.

Spent quite a bit of time in The Shed yesterday. Track was laid, track was lifted, track was...you get the picture? I did have a plan at one time but it hasn't worked. Now trying to wing it and that's not working, I expect  hope I'll get there eventually.

Rugby watched last night, Sale overcoming Saracens comfortably although the latter had quite a few players missing injured or on England duty. I'll watch the matches today but without any expectations whatsoever so I can't be disappointed.

Before that I will Venture to the Interior (of The Shed) to see what I can cock up today.

We had Deschutes MIrror pond on cask when in Bend back in 2009 but much prefer the darker beers.

 

Back form shed. Two cats were sparring off with each other where the foxes normally are but as I walked back to the house the fox was on the patio where the cats normally are!!

 

dead calm out there which wont last. Not looking forward to tomorrow as we have lost roof tiles a few times when the winds gust ot 80 mph

Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit of a rush as I have to be at Leigh-on-Sea in about one minutes time. Seriously though I now don't have to as there will not be a layout for me to transport and set up. But I will be off shortly so have a good day all.

Why not nip into a local Charity Shop and rescue a Bear instead?  We're no trouble, really.....

Just remember, a Bear is for Life, not just for Christmas.

 

I'd love a Cat, but the thought of losing him/her to all the traffic zipping around these days stops me.  Some owners keep them inside, but that doesn't feel right to me somehow.
