RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted February 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2020 the sun never sets I seem to remember first contributing to this elite club when we lived in Australia. And I wasn't the only antipodean member then either. The sun never sets indeed. SWMBO is off at the tooth-wrangler's today. That's our holiday fund gone, then I am home awaiting the proverbial gas man. He was supposed to have cometh last week to do our annual test but we were not home and rearranged for today. He was supposed to be here at 1pm today. He was at another flat in the block at 1pm but has since driven away. Will he return? Do we need to invoke our inner Flanders and Swann and sing for him? Whilst waiting I have received a steady stream of parcels for other flats. Mr. Hermes knocked next door with a trio of items and finding no-one home then knocked here which isn't a problem as I will always take parcels for neighbours. Whilst doing the necessary Mr. TNT appeared with a parcel also for the same neighbours which was also taken and whilst doing that Mr. Somebody-else arrived with a parcel for farther along the block - as they also were not home he asked if I might oblige ..... I should charge storage and handling!!! I wonder if they could arrange to be out next time they order pizza With a little spare time and feeling rather brighter than I was yesterday I attempted to rectify some electrical issues on the m***l. No joy there. I thought it was down to a wire disconnected from a switch which I managed to re-solder from below. That wasn't the problem. Something else is. Plan B is to spur past some isolation and see what happens. Plan C is to invest in another new point and start again. In other news I received a surprise, but pleasing, email from Nephew the Eldest who had chosen to cease all contact with me a couple of years ago. He now holds out the hand of reconciliation and has apparently missed our conversations and occasional company. I shall tread gently but will respond warmly. Next week is Annual Leave. There are things to be done which involve modes of wheeled transport none of which I shall be driving. Plans need to be finalised and SWMBO must be kept on-side given that next Friday is also a Very Important Day . Best wishes to all. Stay safe until I return. 22

Spent an hour in TOSH playing trains and muckying up coaches and brake vans, I seem to get the powders everywhere, looking rather weathered myself...…………. 6 12
Popular Post Ian Abel
Moaning all - HUMP day. Yesterday rather pedestrian except for the latest client snafu - AVP of IT managed to get the security changed on the systems so that NONE of the Buisness Intelligence dashboards, INCLUDING the master that allows me to manage things, turned OFF for everyone Back on this morning, but no apology forwarded Went to see "Little Women" yesterday and a film that can be recommended, not the least for the way the screenplay handles the book. Nothing of note happening today - unless I get orders later. -13 and sunny first thing, heading for a balmy -2 for the high. Enjoy the day. There were family hides with useful information for children (and me!). So later we went into one of the hides where silence was requested. There was a chap in there with all the gear quite loudly pointing out all the rare water fowl he could see. So not only was he making a noise and smoking he was talking rubbish. Every rare bird he identified was a mallard. 10

Which begs the questions, Is the battery not holding charge? Is the landrover discharging the battery? Is the landrover not charging the battery? DMM so far not found. RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted February 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted February 5, 2020 Not so early contributing but was early rising, just domestics got in the way. Over the years, the only oceans I haven’t been on were the Arctic and the Antarctic. In have worked on every continent except Australasia, the Arctic and Antartica, although I have visited Australasia and Oceana numerous times in the course of work. As for places to have lived, I arrived in the Coventry, lived in two places on the Isle of Wight, Bath, two places in Plymouth, Glasgow, South Hampshire x 2, Berkshire x 2, Northamptonshire x 2 and now Hertfordshire. I have been on local and national television, the last time was during the 2008 F1 British GP getting various crashed drivers out of their cars during the wettest GP I ever marshalled. As for today, a cold start then off to Buckingham to meet friends, out to lunch, an afternoon of chat and just back home, now to catch up with all manner of issues. Best wishes to our sufferers and those missing, not much more day to seize!

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 5, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Sorting out the stuff for Saturdays show just need to pack it now. Doing my family history has thrown up quite a few interesting facts. I am distantly related to a current cabinet minister but politically I'm even more distant. That branch of the family originated from Dorset but the minister comes from a more distant branch that moved to Warwickshire about 300 years ago. Thats on my mums side of the family, on my dads side I have one possible ancestor hung at Wapping for piracy but a lot of records were lost in the Great Fire of London. Other branches of the family came from Pembrokeshire and the Isle of Purbeck, and I allways thought I was an Essex boy.

RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted February 5, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2020 Today's mission was to travel with the Obergrumpenfuhrer to Llandudno. Whilst she was engaged on business I wandered down to the station to admire the rather peculiar (to me as a WR fan) upper quadrant signals. On the completion of business, we regrouped and then travelled over to Mochdre to visit, wait for it........ Hippo Toys! (They do model railway and laser cutting stuff.) I have no commercial interest in the place except as a customer Then it was return to Telfland, via Abergele, as I had to drop in to see Larry Goddard to pick up some 'stuff'. This was the awkward part of the trip, but fortunately the Obergrumpenfuhrer was not interested in the contents of the box that went into the boot. (It was a black tank with panniers.) I now need to superglue my finger back together because it's been leaking on and off for about 36 hours now. I think that the acrobatic movements I require of my fingers are probably constantly reopening the wound. 1 4

Popular Post AndyID
I wimped-out. It's eighty miles to the place where I ski and the road conditions are not too appealing. Also I don't ski very well when it's snowing and I can't "read" the snow. Big snowflakes at the moment. My truck has been "textured". I suppose I better trudge round the block with Shona. "Snowflakes that stay on my nose and eyelashes Silver white winters that melt into springs These are a few of my favorite.......... 24

KZ, I'm a bit concerned about your navigational skills if the Arctic is considered a continent, and I am compelled to "harrumph" at the assertion that "Australasia" is a continent. While that may well have been an apt description at the height of glaciation my compatriots will insist that the continent today is "Australia". . We have Lt. (later Captain) Matthew Flinders to thank for popularizing the name over the more hypothetical Terra Australis or the dubiously claimed Nova Hollandia, which Cook reinforced in his maps as New Holland. According to Wikipedia he makes the following footnote in his "A Voyage to Terra Australis": Quote Had I permitted myself any innovation upon the original term, it would have been to convert it into Australia; as being more agreeable to the ear, and an assimilation to the names of the other great portions of the earth. 14

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted February 5, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 5, 2020 Evening. I just thought that I had another interesting home/country to add, but it may be cheating as I wasn't quite born at the time. My parents were in Iraq in 1959, Dad worked in oil exploration and there was a bit of do brewing (Hussain, S, Ba'ath party had something going on there IIRC) so Mum left in a big rush. Dad had a harder time getting out but he and others did make it eventually. A couple of weeks after Mum got home I arrived, so I was nearly born in Iraq - which had I been, might have lead to me being interned at the time of the first Gulf war. I suppose I now live in the right place for that! A chilly start to the day lead to a pleasant afternoon, managed a lunchtime walk for the first time this week. Most of those pesky G scale vans are on their way to customers now thankfully, bit fed up of them now!
