RMweb Gold Popular Post 81C Posted February 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2020 Afternoon All Dog duties again today a fence was put round the flower bed in the garden Sunday he was outside in the garden then he disappeared he had pulled the fence down got onto the flower bed dug himself a hole slid into it and folded his ears back and he was gone out of sight, the flower bed is large so when I found him I had to trick him out and fix the hole. Spent the next 2 hours in Wickes & B and Q Dulux don't do a brochure anymore a ~ickbrain in the Wickes store said you need to go on-line before you come to the store just then one of the old workers Peter came across and helped me out after awhile I had a coffee in Howdens Kitchens then into B&Q the lad on the paint count was helpful I came away with the colours he had recommended then grabbed a burger off the best burger van in the south of England. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted February 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted February 4, 2020 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. More than a bit windy here but at least theres no dampness. The next door neighbours left just before Christmas so the landlord decided to repair the flat roof of the extension. The builder started early this morning but had to give up due to the wind. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.

The TVR Offices - I remember those. I belonged to a Drama Group that met around the corner in Station Terrace. You will doubtless remember the Trolley buses just outside the office going under Queen St Bridges. When the trolleys started to replace the trams they couldn't go under those bridges as the trolleys were too tall - so Cardiff Corporation lowered the road! RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted February 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2020 Evening, and welcome to Lantavian. I did once pay off a ship in Honkers, had to wait five days for a flight as it was the height of tourist season, all on expenses.....but when you just want to go home after 4 months at sea it wasn't that much fun. A steady, nay, busy but in control day at work getting those G scale vans out of the door, getting well through them now. As for homes, well I was born at home, in South Shields, spent three years in Liverpool at Kollege (as Ian would have it) seven years at sea, and moved to the Isle of Man 18 years ago due to a very, very bad day at work (an NHS manager by then). Mrs NHN's story is far more interesting, being born in Cornwall, lived in Croydon, Caterham, New Zealand, back to Cornwall, Guernsey, South Shields (aha!) and now Fraggle Rock. She went to more schools than there are wheels on a 9F. Chilly tonight on the rock, frost predicted. No doubt that will result in the usual batch of upside down cars in the morning. It's a Manx affliction. 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted February 4, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2020 All the talk of knees and such reminds me of when I first met the consultant who did my two knees and one hip replacements (my younger son maintains that if I have any more bits replaced or rebuilt I'll have to re-register as an android). "Tell me about yourself", he began, "I like to get to know my patients. What do you do for a living?" "I'm retired but I used to be a fast jet pilot," I replied. "Ah, what about sports?" he asked so I told him that I played Rugby as a No. 8 for many a year and when I was in America had a go at Gridiron football. I also enjoyed playing squash, although I was never any good at it, and liked hill walking. "I bet you used to go jogging to keep fit, didn't you?" he said, to which I confessed. "Well," he said after a bit more chat, "You may like to know that we have a medical term for what has happened to your skeletal system." There was a pause that I realised I was supposed to fill. "What's that?" I asked. "You've bu**ered it," he replied. Luckily he is a very good surgeon. I completely agree with the posts about what the kennel club has done with dog breeds but it could be worse - look what's happened to hippos recently..... And welcome aboard Lantavian - does that mean something to do with birds? Me, mad??? No, it's the rest of them. Have a quiet and peaceful night all, or whatever part of the earth's rotation you are currently experiencing. Dave 18 3

Watch out for the keas (seriously!). They will investigate anything to see if they can eat it or make use of it in some way. They can unzip bags, pockets etc. We drove from Christchurch up to Arthur's Pass, where a kea actually unscrewed the aerial from the rental car and carried it off for about ten yards before deciding it wasn't edible or useful and dropping it. 7 3 10

Apparently it was Groundhog Day. Good evening all from a mightily cold Hill of Strawberries. The morning shift was by far the least pleasant of the winter this far with a stiff breeze cutting through all attempts to rug up in what was ostensibly 5C. I was waiting for the polar bears to blow in. It took several hours at home later to properly thaw out and has left me feeling drained. Tomorrow is another day - with a much lower forecast temperature but not the wind. And next week is the first of my rostered leave for the year so I may get to stay warmer than of late! I'm going to have an early night and hope to feel much better in the morning. Best wishes one and all. 1

I was born in Cardiff and lived here all my life. I have to locate a Dead End for my final breath. I was born in Bourne End after all. Not in Cornwall because mother and father were up visiting mother's parents in Yiewsley and father had a job starting in Marlow (which lasted weeks rather than days but that's another story). In between then and now I have variously lived in Cornwall, Hampshire, West Sussex, London, Cornwall, Devon, Cornwall, Australia and now the Hill of Strawberries. With more addresses than I care to remember though I do remember every one bar the very first. And as with Mrs NHN more schools than wheels on a 9F which didn't help in the making and keeping of friends one little bit. After all - and influenced by father's attitude borne of the same background in his young days - we would be changing schools again in a few months so why make friends? A good and a loving man - but extremely negative in outlook. 1

The best way to get at Dulux colours is to pick up the colour shade cards that go with the mixer paints. But you'll need to find a decent stockist who does the mixer range to find them. Dave Hunt's post reminds me taht Doctors always seem to take an interest in your past physical activities when you call in to talk about developing physical defect, or even for a medical. Showing how much things have changed when I had my BR medical for entering permanent employment the MO, Dr Watney (really) took one look at my stomach and said 'Do you row?' as he thumped it quite hard with the flat of his hand The answer of course was blindingly obvious otherwise I'm pretty sure he wouldn't have thumped it and had his hand bounce off my stomach muscles (yes - I was a very different shape back then). The next time sport came up was when I had to do various heart test including the treadmill thing and when I said 'rowing' I got some sympathetic looks but fortunately I had never been exactly top anything class (never got out of a 'Junior' crew - the title is not age related incidentally) because rowing can lead to heart damage 11

RMweb Gold Popular Post tetsudofan Posted February 4, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted February 4, 2020 Homes, I've had many of them. Was born in Crayford, Kent (so I'm a Kentish Man..... and not a Man of Kent) but was brought up in South East London. Things started moving when I shipped out to Hong Kong in 1966, onto Saigon in 1968 and after furlough ended up in Bombay in 1970. Stayed there for a couple of years before returning to the UK for a short break. 1975 saw me moving to Singapore and two years later moving to Tokyo for a year or so before heading to Seoul for three years. After that is was back to Tokyo where I stayed until 1999 and then returned to the UK and what is now home on the south east Kent coast. So born a Kentish Man, now living in the land of the Men of Kent. Keith 19

Another family friend travelled across Canada courtesy of the army and for a short part of the journey they were locked in the train as it detoured through the USA which was neutral at the time. Not sure where this was but I've no doubt someone will enlighten me. 17
