A prime example being the now commonly slope backed and hip dysplasia ridden German Shepherd Dogs.

In my view the Kennel Club should be put against a wall ang shot! Their "breed standard" are nothing short of cruelty

Good morning everyone

 

Lantavian, welcome aboard, as has already been said, we’re a friendly bunch here. 

 

It started to rain last  night and it’s still raining now, mind you, isn’t it what Manchester is famous for?

 

This morning will see me complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix, after which not a lot else is planned, but that could change at any minute. I’m hoping to cut and a couple of circuit boards to use as masters for the jigs, so that I can mass produce them with some accuracy.

Morning all.

Aditi is just off to a funeral. It is for someone in her French group. Aditi used to take her home after meetings as her husband didn’t like driving late at night. He passed away before Christmas and she followed soon after. 
One of Aditi’s uncles has had prostate cancer for some time and it spread and tumours started to develop in his leg and hip bones. He had surgery (orchiectomy) a couple of years ago and is really very well now. He is in his late 80s.

I do agree with HH and Laurence, “breed standards” have caused some horrible things to be done to dogs. We really wanted a cocker spaniel but the list of defects seemed so long. Robbie was a working cocker, and although he had a pedigree (we didn’t tell him though) like all working cockers deviated so,much from the “show” type,he wouldn’t have won a prize.

Morning!! I think I have contracted GDB knee disease, my left knee has very little cartilage left after some keyhole surgery a few years ago(old rugby injury they reckon), so the playing of tennis with the 5 year old grandson a couple of weeks ago seems to have done something permanent as it's still sore all these weeks later. However a rub of the old fogies cream(deep heat on this occasion) has rendered it useful again, so some more muddling may take place later as the weather is not conducive to any outdoor activities.

Hmmm. Still puzzles me after having had a total knee replacement (Due to rugby injuries as well which led to Menesectomy -ACL Reconstruction-Arferitis-Fullritis etc) how the bloody thing can still hurt so much. Must be all the bits surrounding and attached to the plastic and steel or whatever it's made from.  Years of limping before the replacement was done have caused arthritis in the opposite hip and the 20 odd years of scrummaging  ( About 7 years front row and then moved to back row) with lots of tackling have taken a toll on neck and shoulders, all of  which hurt most of the time and worse when it's cold or damp or both. Quite a chilly breeze out at the moment and after walking to and from a couple of shops, only about three quarters of a mile, I ache all over.

Good job I'm not a horse, they shoot them when they're in better nick than me!

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Welcome Lantavian, you'll find us a good bunch if a bit mad at times nearly allways. A tad late this morning, the SEERS chairman e-mailed this morning saying he needed a cash tin for the door at our show this Saturday. I have such a tin so I offered it too him and then went in search of it (it hasn't been used for a couple of years.) I looked in its normal place but couldn't see it so I started hunting high and low for it after about an hour I moved another item and then I spotted it, in its usual place but covered by something else . At the moment I can only find one key but I will have to check various key rings for the spare.

Indeed, that is why if I ever have a dog it will be a Jack Russell, the only breed that they never mucked around with.

A weird weekend but Emily is out of hospital now on bed rest and reduced hours at work (good as she's needed to!).  Fitted the car seat bases in the cars yesterday.  The last thing we needed to do.

Baby will come early.  They want to get to at least 34 weeks, ideally 37.  At 37 weeks, they'll induce her.

Strange to think in a couple of months I'm gonna be holding my our baby!

He ordered a few packs from Amazon UK that were due the middle of last week but never arrived in time for his flight at the weekend. He's on the east size of the mainland IIRC. haven't visited him for many years when he lived in the mid levels up from Central. The escalator was around the corner from his flat.

Greetings all from LBG where it is cloudy but dry. Today's journey to work was heavily disrupted by the broken rail near New cross. I ended up getting a Cannon Street rounder via Greenwich because the queues on the up platform were so large I doubted my ability to get on the late running up train. And it was so late I think the arrival at LBg was pretty much simultaneous.

 

I grew up in Paddock Wood, apart from a year's sojourn in Singapore, then lived in Leeds as a student, then Northampton for 10 or 11 years and Sidcup ever since. A fairly circular journey, especially as historically my Mum's family were scattered over SE London/Kent (including Sidcup).

 

I am at the moment not suffering from knees issues (too much cross country as a teenager) but I regularly twist one of my knees or find them aching. It's not as bad as it used to be and I have not developed the threatened arthritis, whch I put down my generally indolent lifestyle.

The jack Russell today is not the Jack Russel of Old because people have mucked around with it.. The Original Parson Jack Russell was much taller than most peoples idea of a JR. They were of course a CREATED breed BY... Parson Jack Russell

Even they're not exempt, my one has had to have two knee operations and has other not so serious conditions as well, poor little thing.

 

Welcome Lantavian, can only echo what everyone has said about this good bunch o' folk.

 

Been temporarily absent, dentist visit resulted in an extraction and it's a bit sore.

Nothing of worth reporting from yesterday other than getting our car back after they replaced a couple of sensors and two new front tires, ka-ching!

Hopefully the idiot light will now stay off and the occasional refusal to start has been remedied.

 

Also, day 3 of the "get yourself in shape you old git..." and still not feeling any the worse for the effort

 

Jemma returns from her trip today and I'll be off to the airport to provide the taxi duty - fair enough since she lent us her car while she was gone

This evening we're off to the movies with our friends, apparently the ladies have decided we ALL need to see "Little Women"...

 

Temperatures becoming somewhat more seasonable with -12 and sunny skies, may manage -6 for a high, woo-hoo!

Afternoon all.

 

Welcome Lantavian - to the bit of RMweb where people actually bother to read posts made since they last visited (a big differeence from some other parts of the forum).

 

So today has seen me visit the Good Count's daughter and as it happens I actually got to choose which daughter when i booked the appointment towards the middle of last week.  She was most impressed when I told her that I'd been advised that she would be able to squeeze me in (alas only in terms of fitting in an appointment).    And today I actually managed to get some stuff squirted in as well as pumping some out having enquired just how long a pneumovacc (Pneumovax) jab was meant to last as I'd been told 'for life' when I was given it about 17 years ago.  She looked me up on the 'puter and said that I was due one (I think on an age related basis?) and promptly went off and got the necessary and found they had some in stock and duly squirted a dose of it into my arm, saying it would last for life (I did wonder if that comment might also be age related ).

 

Subsequently there was a mandatory Tesco visit and then home to an almost proper job brunch - my annual treat.  So I am now a double pin-holed reasonably cheery bunny.  Real ER tomorrow as I'm off out on another top secret mission - as long as the s*ds don't go videoing me again because I'm being told by the management that I'm increasingly overdue a haircut.  The next secret mission - note the difference in rating - will, unless things change, involve the contents of a package from the Chinese mainland but I believe it left there to another continent before forwarding, whenever that is, to the UK.

Interesting that Dave - somewhat sort of coincidentally I worked as a Temporary Class 4 Clerk on the Western 55 years ago this summer although I then went back to skool for a year to finish my A  Levels before joining as permanent member of staff in September 1966 (after spending that summer working in the local brewery).  And in the summer of 1967 was working in Cardiff 'on loan' for almost a month based in the old TVR offices at Queen Street.
