Central Scotland is getting a proper soggy,  the police have closed crawfield road in Bo'ness due to water and debris coming off the field.  Crawfield road is horizontal along a hillside,  either end your talking of something like a 1 in 4 going down the hill.  My parents have lived within sight of the road for 45 years it's not been closed like this before... 

Dad is supposed to be coming home from Hospital but they can't get through the flooded roads. 

 

Sadly Breydon railway bridge was closed in 1953 and demolished in 1962..

Evening awl. Early rising for me is an ever moving target it seems... I think my body has a pot luck attitude to time zones!

 

Anyway, today was the annual asthma check. Which for the most part was fine. The bit that wasn't fine was the weight check etc. So appointment to see the GP in a week or so to discuss some options.

 

ER has been a bit surreal today, as Natalie seems to have a want to read posts out to me whilst staying at mine (for a MERG meeting Saturday just gone and for Stafford show on Sunday).

 

Looking forward to the weekend, with the first show of the year (technically, DEFine was, but I view that more of a social gathering than a show) at Stafford. Should be good fun.

 

Now to cook a roast gammon for dinner...

Good evening all,

 

Am feeling happy as the local contractor has not just decimated (reduced by one tenth) but virtually 100% annihilated my garden overgrowth and remnant building debris. Example: the twelve foot high hedge between my front garden and the garages for myself and the three neighbours is now about three foot high! Result! (Expensive!)

I live so (relatively) close to work that it's cheaper to get the train each day. Having usually used the earliest of the trains around 07:00, I decided that, after a contretemps with a manager and myself outside of my normal working hours, I would throw caution to the wind and get the latest train possible; 07:54. Official start time at work is 08:00, so I'm usually now 2 minutes 'late'! The 17 minutes after work until my train home can usually be occupied 'trainspotting'!

Just over 17,400, car was bought with 86 miles on the clock in August 2015.

I will be planning to wear long trousers if I venture out later, though I did dash out in short trousers in the rain this morning. I had neglected to put the wheelie bin on the kerb/curb last night. This morning (still abed watching a replay of a tennis quarterfinal) I heard the bin chorus. Hoping it was from the street behind me I grabbed whatever nether end garment was to hand and dashed downstairs and wheeled the bin in place as the truck turned the corner into my street. Victory! (With knobbly knees in the rain.)

 

Being dragged up in the sub-tropical Antipodes, short trousers were preferred most of the year. In fact I remember my father's white collar work attire (quite normal at the time) consisting of a short sleeved collared shirt and tailored short trousers with socks over the calves. I am looking forward for suitable weather to indiscriminately subject any and all to my knobbly knees once more.

It may be true that many women do not have as much knee hair nor have it so prominently as some men but the world is full of all sorts.  I have been surprised at the hirsute nature of one or two young ladies in my past.  And that's without giving away too much information!

 

Evening all.  It has been a Really Cold Day today.  The light breeze of this morning was sufficient to chill the bones despite being suitably layered up and wearing both thermals and my Really Cold Day thick merino-wool sweater.  I thawed out over lunch only to become cold once again during a necessary shopping trip later.  

 

The weekend ahead is scheduled for some well-walking in darkest Cornwall for which I needed to replace my elderly waterproofs - which are no longer water proof - and discovered the boot dubbin was also now an empty tin lurking in the cupboard.  So off to a couple of likely emporia I went and with a need to also seek some new best black shoes for the House of Fun.  Luck was not on my side.  Nothing suitable was found in Kingston so I hopped on a bus for RIchmond and tried there.  With some success.  I found a pair of lightweight waterproof over-trousers but no over-jacket so the day-to-day coat will have to suffice and not get muddy.  Dubbin was easily found but nowhere seemed to have black shoes in a style suitable for work and which will accommodate my size 10 feet.  Everything seems to be made for the pixie-footed folk with toes which mysteriously narrow to a central point.  I'll have to look further afield another day.  I can order the (extremely comfortable) toe-capped boots we were provided with as uniform at the Palace of Attendance but they have to come from Australia, cost in the region of £175 and there would be shipping and customs duty on top of that.  I wasn't planning on spending quite that much!

 

So we are booked on the lunchtime train from Paddington on Friday and also booked for lunch in the Pullman diner.  My success rate there is poor - only four out of ten attempts to dine on board have actually produced the advertised service with the other six having either the meal service or the entire train cancelled for a variety of reasons.  SMWBO deserves a special treat so fingers crossed.  She doesn't know yet - all I have told her is where and when to meet me.  

 

Once again my evening draws more or less to its close as being a genuine ER requires being an ETB as well.  Early to Bed in this case.  I'll pop in tomorrow; for now I wish you all well.

Good evening from NEHerts once more,

 

I have been back for a couple of days but events have overtaken me and there were hundreds of posts to go through - generally enjoyable though! Firstly, congratulations to those who have celebrated an event during my absence. Secondly, I hope recoveries are progressing well although some will take a while longer than others. I was some months after my myocardial infarction before I overcame my fear of a recurrence but I have been clear for a number of years now and realise there are plenty of other ways for me to end my days.  Third, who the **** teleported the lurgy to me? I am streaming, coughing and having interrupted sleep as bad or worse than The Q.

 

A brief report on my skiing holiday:                          No skiing!                    Sadly, my decrepit ankles wouldn't get into the modern ski boot. I have my own boots that are just of this millennium but I didn't take them with me, thinking instead to hire something up to date - error! I mentioned the three broomsticks owners with whom I would be travelling before I left and they were worse than I feared too, particularly as I was unable to ski away from them. My nephew, a fit and good skier, crashed on Friday and broke his left humerus. His wife - a diabetic with gluten intolerance - was fed something that her body rejected on the previous day. By the time we left on Sunday morning, it was something of a blessed relief but sister-in-law, nephew, his spouse and their babe are still there!

 

I weighed myself on Monday morning and immediately wished I hadn't. I cut down to two meals a day and am preparing for the Keto feast to start next week. I chose not to go to the pub last night for cribbage, my coughing wouldn't have been good for others anyway. Today, follicles have been trimmed (I went out to escape the wrath), a cough medicine that can be taken with my existing regime of medication has been bought, the routine prescription has been collected and a session with Sister Draclear has been booked. Logs have been ordered for delivery next week. SWMBO claimed to have been nearly killed in town - she walked across a road without looking and a car passed close to her - so close "that it shook every bone in her body" and "almost ran over her head". Not one for mild exaggeration is my wife. Needless to say, it was my fault because I failed to show sufficient sympathy. Anyone know of an empty dog kennel this cowardly old codger can hire? I promise not to wear shorts in it.

Evening all.  A good day has been had. I entrusted myself to the tender mercies of Northern and Transpennine. Northern managed to leave at least 100 passengers on 2 platforms on the first train (A 150/2) TPE then got me to Manchester over half an our late, so delay repay kicks in. The train was termibated at Manchester Victoria. Passengers were given no help or advice so I got to Lancaster my own way chani g at Salford Crescent and Preston.  An excellent  pub lunch was had in the 3 Mariners, sorry I didn't let you know Stewart.  Then back via Oxford road, Man Vic, Leeds and a bus back hime from Casvegas.  I even managed to travel on 3 new classes of train, 331, 397 and Loco hauled Nova3.  All in all a good day out.  Babysitting duties tomorrow.  I am to ve entrusted with Emily for a couple of hours.  I better practice being grumpy.

I'm wondering weather to go to Alton show or not all it takes is for one person to cough his ring up who's got the lurgi and spread the flu to everyone.

BiL coming tomorrow to assist in moving some furniture in the bedroom I could get a second double in there why do they make bedrooms in flats so big 

I should have used that one for the mancave.

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Club night tonight, we are still sorting out all those little jobs that resulted from the clubhouse alterations. Helped to install a shelf/drawer unit, a couple of the members carefully measured up and checked the levels. Once the shelf was installed we stood back to admire our handiwork only to realise that there was something wrong. After checking it turned out that the shelf unit was warped. After we expressed our feelings vocally we decided in the best model railway tradition to leave it as it was. Thats it for now, be back later.

Reminds me of the early days of Railtrack on a project that wasn't going well. The new project manager was getting on my ***$ at a crisis meeting so I just said "my bank balance is as big as my mortgage and an early pension would be enough to live on. I only come to work because I like the job. When that changes I won't come any longer".

He had been replaced before the project finished but I was still there at the end.

Jill saw the GP today about her BP and it's whore's drawers behaviour; result is that she is on some hypotensive tablets and has to continue tracking the daily figures for another three weeks before attending again. At least it seems that something positive is being done. Oh, and she was told to cut down on salt.

 

My day consisted of getting what's left of my hair cut, which didn't take long, then doing some wiring on my lay**t before cooking my take on spag bol for dinner and giving my Dad a game of Scrabble before taking him home this evening . Tomorrow we are off to Aberystwyth for our Dutch friend's funeral on Friday morning - not something we are looking forward to. Possibly no visits to ERs for a couple of days. The bright spot on the horizon is Stafford on Sunday. Hope to see some of you there.
