RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) Good evening everyone Ive spent most of the day sat at the dining room table with a pencil, some squared paper and a rubber. I’ve made lots of progress, I started out with quite a large board but after plenty of drawing and then redrawing, I’ve managed to get the component layout finished on a much smaller board. I’m confident that I can’t get it any smaller so now I’ll have to order the parts to make them. Each board will control/indicate the position of 4 points, so I’ll need to order enough to make about 13 in total. This morning the latest BRM dropped on the doormat, but I’ve been so busy doing the drawings that I haven’t even opened the front cover yet, maybe I’ll do that tomorrow. Goodnight all Edited January 27, 2020 by BSW01 23

Popular Post pH
A house pole being carved at the local Ecological Society site. It's being done by a First Nations artist, in collaboration with youth from the local First Nations band. For scale, see the chair leaning against the right-hand end. They've tidied up the floor on this side of the pole, but the floor beyond the pole is covered with cedar chips - the smell in the tent is lovely! 27 1

Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all I think I spoke too soon about my lurgi, for much of yesterday was spent coughing. We shall see what happens today. A friend of mine is less than happy with me, alleging that I gave him the lurgi at a recent concert. My response of "When am I ever generous?" was not well received. There is much to be said for Professor Fred Hoyle's theory of extra-terrestrial bombardment. In brief, you will catch something irrespective of who you meet in the incubation period. I don't think I convinced him. It does beg the question of where mine came from but I don't know the answer to that. Back in what passes for the real world, another friend has become less than keen on reading the messages that I send him via Messenger. In true 'reds under the bed' style he perceives much that is evil in the world of social media. He has a point but when the question of communicating by other means is raised the silence is deafening. This is the same individual who is anxious about how much he uses his phone. The solution is far from obvious. At the moment it looks as though all good things must come to an end, friendships included, and someone will get hurt. As I write this, there is a piece on the Today programme about reopening the railway line from Poulton-le-Fylde to Fleetwood. Dream on, people. There are many more deserving cases on which to waste Government money. Two extra through platforms at Manchester Piccadilly would be a far better idea but it is probably too difficult. Gosh, I'm grumpy this morning. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Good morning all, Still quite dark outside but not frosty or raining. Sunny spells with the chance of the odd shower forecast. Had a rather fidgety night and am feeling a bit carp. Spoke at length last night to our bathroom man. Due to various circumstances (his and ours) it looks like our refit won't happen until July. The Boss is not happy about this but we haven't got a lot of choice as I like this guy and having seen the work he's done at a friend's house I am prepared to wait. His price is reasonable as well compared to others. Not all parcels turned up yesterday as planned although one courier has emailed to apologise about the delay and claim they are on the case. Today I intend to head down the A3 to Guildford hoping to resolve an issue with a sick loco. (providing the carp feeling goes away) Have a good one, Bob. 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1041 /651, A terrible nights sleep, I fell asleep early, but then woke at 00:50 and couldn't back to sleep again for ages.. total probably less than 5 hours.. It rained for several hours yesterday evening and was raining at stupid O'clock this morning, Ben the indecisive Collie came to the back door with me wanting out, looked outside and backed off. I then picked up my bag to leave and he dashed through the doorway.. Desperation over rainfall I think... The roads were maximum size puddles on the way in , and each of the two roundabouts on the NDR I use, had a broken down vehicle on one of the entrances, OK at the time I came through, but by now they will be causing chaos.. When the Coronavirus gets here, I think many of us will not know, but think we've got one of our current round of Lurgis. I've woken with a runny nose and sore throat again.. Funnily enough i've just had a "Travel Advisory" from the USA head office saying we are not to travel to China.... New printouts of offset tables have been printed off this morning for the keel, Hopefully for the final time. I've never heard of German Chocolate cake, but quite fancy the idea, can our resident baker teleport some here? 6 measurements have been taken this morning, 2 to go then I can ship this Thermometer. After that I have some current shunts to measure, these are very old legacy ones. They are only still in use because no one has the budget to rewrite the software that require them.. Time too.. take the next measurement..
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Morning all from a former colliery site about 20 miles east of Ikea. People are getting up and a young lady is telling us things, though we aren't quite sure what. A good day was had yesterday, a brisk walk out with Rachel and Emily, then a trip to a local station to watch trains. In the evening we went into Wakefield and had a lovely meal with some old friends. I believe that the 3 generations of females are heading for a toddler group this morning. I will be maki g phone calls and generally amusing myself. Regards to all and may the various lurgis be sent packing. Jamie 21

I can recommend them. I would put them behind chocolate cakes like Black Forest* or Sachertorte, but they can be very good. * There is a black forest cake made by a family friend that sits in my memory from at least 40 years ago. Perhaps I have amplified how good it was but it remains my personal benchmark for a chocolate cake.

RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 SWMBO has decided that we should take my Dad out for the day. After a while searching for somewhere to go in what could be dodgy weather I suggested a drive into Wales and Betws y Coed was mentioned. Now, it just so happens that there is a small railway museum there........ Back later providing we aren't waylaid by marauding bands of pachyderms when we cross the border. Dave PS, It looks increasingly like my visit to Stafford this weekend will be on Sunday. Who else of the ER persuasion will be there? 21
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Morning all. It is bright and sunny here. No idea of how cold though as I haven’t been out. We are meeting friends for lunch today. We had a huge Black Forest gateaux as our wedding cake. It was the only large cake we could get at 3 days notice. Tony 18 1

But I'll be at Stafford on Sunday, as will a goodly contingent of the OFMC. 20

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 Good morning everyone From a wet northwest of England, we had some snow mixed in with the rain earlier but it has all stopped now. I’ll shortly be heading off to complete the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix. Upon my return I shall start making the vanilla cheesecake that has been requested for tomorrow nights dessert. After that there’s some more laundry to be done and I’m also hoping to finish the layout drawing (reverse side) this afternoon. Enjoy the day, back later.

Popular Post Sir TophamHatt
Morning all. Update on the good lady: Pregnancy Hyper-stimulation - a fancy word for high blood pressure. It can be managed at home with tablets and I'm gonna try and get her to have less salt on food - she has double the amount that I do (although I don't have very much). She'll be monitored to make sure it doesn't turn into pre-eclampsia (the only cure is birth!) and a few more scans to make sure the baby is still growing okay. At the moment, baby seems happy and normal - all good on that front. Man, parenting is hard and it's not even started yet!
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 28, 2020 ' morning all from red dragon land. Unusual sounds were coming from the microwave oven yesterday morning but the popty ping still heated my orange juice so, I carried on with caution. I then got that smell of overheated metal...and...yes...the top of the microwave oven was hot...and the poor thing gave up the ghost altogether...Remove half-cooked bowl of porridge from oven and transfer contents to saucepan on the hob to finish off. Drat! Sometime later, after a much delayed breakfast, a trip to Llandudno was undertaken to pick up a new one after reserving it on the store's website. The same model, although, with evidence of slightly faster cooking times already, I suspect that newer parts have contributed to a more efficient working (maybe) - I am no expert on these things...but I am good at guessing...even if I am wrong... The nice thing about having the same model is that I know how it works...and no heavy reading of Manual, Labels, etc...just plug it in and use. And, this morning, it was breakfast as normal although somewhat later as I had a much longer sleep-in. Time to catch up on some jobs. Keep smiling! ___________ Best wishes Polly

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 28, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 28, 2020 (edited) Morning all from Estuary-Land. Bright and sunny this morning but according to the forecast its cold out there. I and the family were hoping to visit my brother on Friday but it looks as if thats off. My lurgi is still hanging in there by its fingertips and my sister and her husband now have the full blown version. It will be my brothers 73rd birthday in March so hopefully we can have the family get together then. Edited January 28, 2020 by PhilJ W 1

Hi Polly Photo taken from the foot bridge - which I helped to paint when Colin Cartwright first took over the Museum many years ago. At the time a couple of friends were volunteers on his line at Walsall and I was an occasional helper as well and we all got an invitation to stay in one of the carriages for the weekend and paint the bridge whilst the BR line was closed. As I have now retired, I'm sure we'll get to make a return visit soon . . . . . . it's been a long time since our last visit ! Mike 21
