RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 Good evening everyone Despite having laundry (only 1 wash load today) and Sheila’s on going eye care (week 2 of 8) to take care of, I still managed to find the time to have a good play with my electronic bits and pieces. I’m happy to report my that all experiments worked just as I’d hoped. So the next step is to draw up a component layout diagram so that I can build several (approx 50) of them. After dinner we did something we don’t normally do on a Sunday afternoon, (stop sniggering at the back), we sat down and watched a bit of recorded TV. A program about music presented by Stewart Copeland and very interesting it is too. This is a 3 part series and was the second part, we watched the first last weekend and are very much looking forward to the last next week. Then after tea it was time for my monthly chat with my brother in Canada. As is the norm during our chats we put the world to rights and generally chewed the cud for an hour or so. Goodnight all
RMweb Premium Popular Post newbryford Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) Work was worked -very little in the way of customer calls, so plenty of "proper jobs" accomplished or got on with. More importantly - hockey report. Another double header away/home matchup for the Blackburn Hawks against the Billingham Stars. The two previous encounters this season have gone in favour of the home team. I didn't get to the away match last night, but it sounded like a good game with the Hawks coming back from 3-6 down in the final period to 6-6 at full time. Then it's 5 minutes sudden death overtime with only 3 on 3, then penalty shootout is the current way that the games are settled. Billingham scored at 4mins 58..... Gutted. Tonight's game was a well deserved 4-1 win for the Hawks, with the netminder playing a blinder, stopping 38 out of 39 shots against him to earn man of the match. Managed to book tickets on two Amtrak services for later in the year - what a faff that was. If you think we have ticketing/routeing/timetable variations, then you haven't used Amtrak's website............ No hockey for me next week as I'll be on my travels returning from Stafford Ex. The rest of the week will be busy with work and prepping for Stafford. I may catch up sometime later. Have a good week folks. Gottha Jitters Well it would obviously be great to hear that she's improving Bob. But what I think would be a real tonic for her would be to bring her along to the Alton show so that she can meet some of your friends. And while perhaps wondering a bit about their hobby she will at least conclude that you really must be a wonderful bloke to have such nice friends giving up their time to travel to the same event as you simply in order to allow you to introduce her to us. Would also be a really good opportunity to introduce her to a reasonable bacon sandwich. 16 4

RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2020 Mick (NewBryford) Some years ago, I checked the Amtrak site for some friends who were visiting and wanted to go to Boston after Toronto. IIRC one option was taking a train to Buffalo, then the Lake Shore Limited to Albany where it would split and they would have to get on the bit that went to Boston. (LSL went Chicago to New York/Boston.) There was another option of taking the next train out of town towards Chicago and transferring someplace (in Indiana?) to a train back to Boston.
leopardml2341
Morning. More eyelid inspection needed, maybe a cuppa first though - or perhaps just glass of water. See you all later, enjoy your day.
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 (edited) Mooring Awl Inner Temple Hare, 5 hours sleep, followed by indeterminate dozing. Ben is asleep in SWMBOs chair, but occasionally he wakes and starts licking his front "ankles" old age is beginning to catch up with him after a long walk. Yesterday afternoon he was given a half child size dose of calpol as he was definitely in pain... Serendipity, occurs occasionally, for instance being given the 116kg of lead 20 years ago,. The latest is at work. The outer lab staff now have to pack equipment after calibration instead of goods out. The majority of units are made by us any way, so there is pre-made foam packaging. This is not polystyrene but blown plastic which is recyclable. Is comes in sheets and you push out the unused bits. Which go in the appropriate recycling bin, to which I have access... I now am collecting 1 inch and 3 inch thick squares of about 1ft by 9 inches. The 1 inch thick with a little trimming fit nicely in the majority of draws in the tool box, the 3 inch thick need a little more modification. Also I suddenly thought of the keel, it's enlarged size now means hollow construction of the wooden section is practical. That hollow needs filling with something light..... So I put a section of this foam in a bucket weighted it down with a brick, filled it with water, and left it a week. Then removed brick yesterday , it floats higher than polystyrene, and squeezing it showed no water absorpsion. Water shouldn't get inside the keel but I'm not taking chances.. So now i have a source of the foam for the keel, drawings for which will be done later after taking SWMBO for her birthday shopping. The drawings and keel style are based on this article . https://www.storerboatplans.com/boat-design/slug-into-a-quick-swan-the-orange-boat-changes-into-racing-yacht/ Ah A certain doggy may have aching joints but he still wants out... Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all i had a mostly good trip to Southampton yesterday. On the outward run the motorway network behaved itself and I enjoyed breakfast at Fleet services - full English with extra fried bread from Harry Ramsdens. There was plenty of room in the car park when I arrived at 09.20 or so. The homeward run took longer but then it always does. It was accomplished in exceedingly heavy rain and took three hours inclusive of pit stops. I saved 6p a litre by refuelling at North Watford instead of Bedford. At the show I was delighted to meet Gordon S but sorry to miss 92220 and anyone else who was there. In the week ahead, I need to collect a prescription today. On Wednesday there is a meeting of the Bletchley chapter of the HMRS and some food prepping to be done ahead of Thursday, when Poorly Pal and I will enjoy stir fried beef for lunch. That may well be light relief from the m*d*ll*ng due to be undertaken that day, which between you, me and the gatepost will be mostly putting right what I messed up last time. On Saturday I will be meeting my cousin 88C at the Stafford show, always worth a visit. Will there be snow? The lurgi behaved itself yesterday, to the extent of barely making its presence felt. If what I had last year is any guide I'm not out of the wood yet. We shall see. Best wishes to all Chris
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2020 Morning all from the former colliery site. Laura has left for work and Rachel is giving young Emily some breakfast. I'm about to have breakfast. Not a lot on the agenda today. The females are heading to a mums and tots swimming session later and I have one or two DIY type jobs to do. Chris, glad that the lurgi is retreating. Rick, hope the joints behave. Regards to all. Chrisf, glad the lurgi is finally on the wane - Rick, hope you're not in too much pain and that the house of fun is fun. And of course, greetings of the generic variety to everybody else. 30747 waiting for her lift to work- back another day. Robert
Morning All, It's a foggy morning, and the temperature is hovering just around freezing. I am slightly later on parade this morning due to an accident closing the road on my way to work. So I guess I had better get on! RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 Good morning all, Very dull and dismal here again. Not raining at the moment but scattered showers are forecast followed by heavier rain later. Parcels are expected today and bread is required so one of us will have to go to the shop. Not sure who yet but The Boss may want to go for a walk as she's been moaning about having cabin fever as she hasn't been out the house for a couple of days. After yesterday's bit of success in The Shed I may venture down there again today. Have a good one, Bob. 13

Squeezing a brick eh, my what strong hands you have Reminds me of a joke..... How do you tell when a Canada goose (notoriously inedible) is cooked? Put it in the oven with a brick; when the brick is tender, carve the goose! Off to (hotel) breakfast...... I may be sometime. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2020 Morning all from Estuary-Land. A bit grey this morning but dry and Arthur Itis is not predicting any dampness. Not a great deal to do today except to wash a few pairs of jeans as I'm down to one clean pair. Washing them isn't a problem but finding them space indoors to dry can be tricky what with sheets and other items vying for space and the weather being too risky to chance putting them outside. Thats it for now, be back later. 17
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 27, 2020 Good morning everyone A dull start here too in the northwest of England and no rain at the moment, but as the ground it still wet, it must have rained quite a bit last night. Not a great deal planned for today other than working on the component layout for the circuit I was working on yesterday. Enjoy the day, back later.
RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 Morning all, Good to hear that Chris F had a good day and that his lurgi is on the retreat. I'm not so sure about Arthur's-itis Phil as my feet have had visitations over the past couple of days although long periods standing on Saturday might not have helped but more pertinently we have been having some rain. Painting man arrived punctually and is busy - he brought more dust sheets than you could shake a stick at making the management rather jealous I suspect. No major plans for today - his ladship has got a cold so is working from home and I havea. feeling that the painter's occupation of the kitchen will mean lunch will be taken away from somewhere or other if we want something hot. Enjoy your day one and all. 13
RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted January 27, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 27, 2020 I did my self assessed tax return yesterday: I was informed I owed in excess of £3k for my student loan! I scrubbed it out this morning and started again: Result this time was £1.30p! Which is much more like it and compares well with what I have paid in previous years. Now do I tell the Obergrumpenfuhrer I owe £3k to HMRC and then spend it all on cake and trains? 1 1 21
