Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all, with special thoughts to all in distress for whatever reason. I had forgotten about Australia Day. Best wishes to all in Oz who can find something to celebrate. Some of the video footage of burnt koalas is truly tear-jerking yet strangely compelling. It has done so much to raise the profile of what must now be regarded as an endangered species and I salute all those who have contributed to their care. I don't normally do cute furry animals but rules are made to be broken! As a modest distraction yesterday afternoon I played a DVD by Sing Out Bristol, a mixed choir that has impressed me at two live performances now. I'm beginning to like choirs. "Whatever next?" you cry. I'm off to the Southampton show shortly. The lurgi is under sufficient control for me to be confident of the journey and I don't think I need a face mask despite the views of some that it would be an improvement. Best wishes to all Chris 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 Mooring Awl inner Temple, About 4.5 hours sleep a gap then another hour or so, will try for more shortly. The speech seemed to go well, and I read from a clip board, which when the page was flipped over to hang down the front, displayed some comment about what I'd been saying. The longer main text pages I think were too long, if I make the the mistake of doing it again, they'll be shorter, with more " amusing " comments between. If it was too good I'll get invited again.... We split from the normal routine of piping in the haggis this year, it was brought in to a young lady, singing one of Burns poems . This was followed by the address to the haggis, which was done by retired RAF helicopter pilot, entirely from memory. For once my memory worked, this was during the quiz. The first round, was 15 photos of groceries and Scottish well know companies with the brand name blacked out. We didn't do to well on that, but the last two rounds, one was anagrams of Scottish places of which another team member got some and I got the rest, the last round a picture round of Scottish landmarks. Since I got given the sheet by the organiser, I filled in what I knew, 14 of the 15 questions before passing it on, it helps that 5 were within 20miles of where my parents live, including my dads former place of work. So we won the quiz, the prize? A box containing the groceries mentioned in round one. There is a box of Scott's porridge oat, Baxter's Cockaleekie soup, and a bottle of Irn Bru, sitting on the kitchen counter as my part of the prize.. Time I think, to rest the eyes again. .. 22

No Tunnocks Q? Morning All, at last. Apologies that I've been AWOL, but it's been a case of every time I get to posting, it's time to do something else. I have caught up, which is taking longer and longer due to the sheer volume being posted nowadays. I remember when ERs progressed at about three to four posts a day - not three or four pages. That's no bad thing, though. So as usual, there's too much to raise individual comments, and at times like this, I really used to appreciate the late Jock67B's nightly synopsis of the relevant posts. So it's the now obligatory generic greetings to everybody. Today, it seems that 30747 wants to "find! some pieces which have been put in the eaves - and has already "requested" my assistance. Our eaves are a nightmare. being stacked to the door with stuff - still, it will enable me to retrieve a guitar gig bag which I need as two of my guitars need some work done on them, and there's a new repairman working in Lancaster now who appears to be competent. Then I need to chop a few logs, and set the fire in the stove - unlike some here, we don't leave it lit all the time, and let it go down at night, and then clean it and reset it. Tomorrow, it's LASAR and then a trip to Barclays to get a couple of statements, so possibly no visit here to post. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 (edited) Good morning all, Dull and dismal here, so is the weather. Rain is forecast. I won't mention my visit to The Shed yesterday. Damn! I just did. probably best to forget I ever said anything about it. I'm trying to. Enjoyable game of rugby between Bristol and Gloucester watched. Quietish tryless first half , 15-9 on penalties but then it livened up after the break with Bristol ending as worthy winners 34-16. Today sees Saracens visiting Quins, that should be fun. I'm hoping that any minute now I'll be asked what I'd like for breakfast. Q's mention of bacon & eggs has got the taste buds thinking. Have a good one, F.E.Elingpeckish Edited January 26, 2020 by grandadbob
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 Very lazy start to Sunday here. Horace the cat and I are having a long lie-in and I am enjoying a large muggocoffee whilst reading a Donna Leon book. Nothing definite planned for the rest of the day but it's a bit dreich outside so the interior of the workshop looks inviting. Must start planting the idea in certain quarters; how successful I'll be remains to be seen. Whatever the future holds I'd better start doing a bit of diem carpeing. Well, just one more chapter and, if I'm really lucky, another muggocoffee first......... Keep relaxed and keep smiling people. Dave 19

Still no new from Woking yet, only a holiday snap of her on Facebook last night, small mercies I suppose. I hope next week will improve all round I don't want another bout of turmoil that I had last year when trying to deal with the slapped #rse day in day out. Onward and upwards Harry N'Sengeorge. Breakfast has been consumed and the first washing machine load is on the go already. In between sorting Sheila eye care and washing I shall have a play with my electronic bits and bobs to see if my ideas actually work. RMweb Gold Tony_S Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Share Posted January 26, 2020 Morning all. I had to check I hadn’t posted earlier. Must have been a dream. We have had our usual Sunday breakfast, croissants. We are not going to Enfield today, MiL is coming to visit us along with Aditi’s sister. Her sister’s husband is I assume coming too. SiL isn’t that confident about driving “long” distances . Not sure why, driving in most places is more relaxing than Enfield. Aditi has made a fish pie (assorted fish, potato topping). Everyone will eat that rather than making different meals, for those who don’t eat certain things. Have a good day. Tony 17

The issue is we are incredibly busy and are trying our best to dispatch parcels same day - we have time for a chat of course, five or even ten minutes is fine as we're happy to help folk and talk trains, and if they buy something all the better, but time is money - when these calls go over half an hour or more (they do....), that is an unproductive half an hour for the business. The timing of these calls tends to be 'immaculate' in terms of being at an awkward time - five to four, post revenue books still to do, post van coming in to the yard, customers in the shop etc etc. #hair pulling out emoji# That as they say, is life! RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 (edited) It's a sweltering 8°C here at the moment. Was thinking of getting the sun beds out but apparently it's going to rain in about 90 minutes. Bacon & eggs were offered earlier, accepted and demolished. Now looking around for something to do. There are of course lots of things that need doing in that place at the end of the garden that I'm trying to forget but courage has deserted me. However I keep being reminded by Management that a considerable amount of tokens wre spent on the building and I really ought to be doing something down there. I really don't need continual reminders. Red rags and bulls spring to mind. Short fuse is near ignition. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted January 26, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 26, 2020 Welcome to Sunday Upon the Hill of Strawberries. It is grey. It is cold. And it is not a day for unnecessary trips beyond the reach of the central heating. As I predicted last night was very much a case of Sleepus interruptus with several trips being required to the bathroom on account of the volume of water consumed on medical advice. If it's not one thing it's another, eh? I woke needing more sleep at around 8am but was required to provide breakfast as SWMBO had a phone-conference appointment with one of her PhD supervisors at 9am. I promptly caught up on the missing sleep and emerged in time for morning coffee. Following which she has taken herself off to the Wait Rose for some supplies and has threatened to seek out a haggis. I must admit to being less than able to keep track of all these festivities across multiple time zones. While some were marking Burns Night (25th) here others were celebrating Australia Day (26th) elsewhere. And being an Anglo-Australian couple we do what? I have never celebrated Australia Day and SWMBO respects the wishes of the indigenous elders that it be not celebrated. Acknowledged, if you wish, but not the flag-waving, hooning and often drunken misbehaviour which seems endemic at least around the SE States. I'll keep my flag-waving for the 5th March thank you. I do enjoy a good haggis with tatties and neeps (and accompanied by the bottle of Talisker currently on hand) but I don't need it to be piped in nor addressed. The foot pain has eased somewhat overnight so here's hoping it is finally in retreat. I do need to stand on both feet at the House of Fun from tomorrow. There has been no word for some days from Former Neighbours (Upstairs) so I assume they are busy with respective careers / studies / boyfriends and may no longer need an old fart in their lives. We shall see. It is time to play with wires and hopefully make connections without sparks, smoke or other problems. If I'm not back later please send out a search party ..... 15
