I have been able to pass on o ne nugget of useless knowledge. The house is built on the old pit site and all the roads on the new estate are named after coal seams. When I first started in tbe Police in 1973 there were 10 pits in the division plus a large wokshops that serviced industrial steam locos just across the main road from here. Anyway the day has gone well. Beth was deposited at a shopping centre to have breakfast with a friend. I was able to spend some tine watching trains. This afternoon I was allowed to go to the Pontefract show and met many other friends. We are now due to babysit this evening while Rachel and Laura go out for a meal. Grandma is in her element. Mrs off to take a walk with a friend, so I'm looking to do some personal stuff, just need to decide what, decisions, decisions! So, posting here instead <yawn> Later we are apparently going out for dinner with Trevor, Meagan and ALL the dogs, their two and Whitney who's with us as Jemma is flying. They have a local dog friendly restaurant - dogs are allowed/encouraged on the heated patio, and they have a dog menu (who KNEW!!). So since it's their youngest dogs birthday we're going to have a birthday party there We'll se how THAT goes, but I'm assured it'll be "just fine"... -2 and high overcast here, may reach 0 if we're lucky, and chance of a coating to an inch of snow later. There was a time when HR used to line all the employees up to remind them how wonderful the senior management were. Whenever these events took place I was glad to see many middle managers there because quite a few of them could be quite entertaining. Most of these guys were 'off the tools' and would never suffer fools gladly, they didn't quite succeed in reducing the speaker to tears but they came very close at times. I see the 'Genisis' 4/6 wheel coach thread is kicking off again, the argument now is is the proposed LB&SC livery correct, on a genetic model! Tony I was on a training course about managing projects run on behalf of BR by some over-rated management consultancy firm around 1990. It was brainstorm time. The the leader picked people at random asking us to 'Think outside the box' about what we should do to improve the current situation. Thats unusual as most US restaurants for some reason don't allow pets, in fact they're a bit paranoid about it. But I did manage to get some soldering done and completed 8 MERG kits. The thing is, I’ve got no more left to make, so tomorrow I will do a little bit of experimenting that I was hoping to do earlier in the week. This is afternoon I got a phone call from Vickie asking about how to connect a light fitting up. Ian has been decorating the girls room and bought a second hand chandelier off a workmate. When he took down the old light fitting and tried to connect up the new one, he wasn’t sure about the wiring. Needless to say, it was easier for me to go round and take a look, than to try and explain over the phone how to do it. However, when I took a look at the fitting itself, it became apparent that there was a part missing, namely the bracket that is fixed to the ceiling, onto which the chandelier is suspended from. So the original fitting was put back and I came home with the top part of the chandelier, with the intention of making a fixing bracket for it. But that will have to wait until next weekend at least, as I still have to stay ‘clean’ for the next 7 days whilst I continue Sheila’s eye care. Hut looking at the fitting, it looks like a simple L shaped bracket with 4 holes in should do the trick. Once home, it was time for a quick cuppa before making tea, which tonight was a large batch of vegetable lasagna, some of which has been frozen for future consumption.
