RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted January 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Share Posted January 10, 2020 (edited) Bike car club survived, even talked about bikes. A pal there has had the engine rebuilt for an old Ariel Arrow he has, the crank seals had gone so he got a local guy to to the full job - he's getting it back tomorrow, it has never run right since he bought it, but hopes it will be transformed. Then went to the pharmacy, got my BP meds to find one mis-dispensed for the second time, half the correct strength issued but ticked off twice as correct. Mucho complaint made, that isn't acceptable. That's why they have the second check. Someone needs their arse kicked. Edited January 10, 2020 by New Haven Neil Speeling 'Ariel' 1 2
Popular Post 34theletterbetweenB&D
Lovely day, but stuck, as full of the cold that keeps on giving. The horrible muck that is coming off my lungs - reluctantly - I shall not describe. Best to all, and especially those with more serious health issues. But this has given me leisure to go about the task SWMBO has appointed. For just before Christmas FiL announced he would go into the same care home where MiL was already resident, and the now vacant family home of 60 odd years is being cleared. And there's a lot of paperwork. Which I can work through is her theory. (On the positive side several very useful documents long thought lost have now been found.) Also a comprehensive documentation of which neither of us were aware. They wrote 'everything' down. Sometimes correctly, sometimes not. About ten years ago they 'awarded' us a dog; we never had a pet in our entire life together. I imagine someone they knew acquired a hound, and our names got attached. These and many other confusions and grumpinesses now explained. Onward and upward.

At least you probably have some time to spend checking those docs, some people get very little time to do that and end up throwing the baby going out with the bathwater. For various reasons it's time to say aufwiedersehen to my BMW and potentially bonjour to a much more economical, 4-seat, less than 120g CO2/km Peugeot 2008. Q1. Wondering if anyone has experience of this manufacturer and/or model? First impressions are that the build quality is better than our Citroën. For example closing the boot gave a satisfying clunk rather than a tinny rattle. Q2. One reason for getting rid of the sports car is that the baby who I used to carry around in it in a car seat has grown up and will start driving lessons in about 12 months. I note that these new fangled cars have something called "hill assist", whigh takes some of the skill out of hill starts. Are hill starts still a thing indriving lessons / tests ? I'm guessing hill assist can be turned off, but this is an assumption. Thanks in advance! Andy As a greater family we have had 14 Peugeots - and have done over 130 000 miles in 4 of them. Fuel wise they have been good and are routinely serviced. Two were written off when parked correctly, one via black ice and one had a clutch problem but overall we have been very pleased with them. It has included 107, and 206, 207, 308, 405, 508 all as SW models. 10 1

I would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy new year. I hope that you had an enjoyable Christmas period and that today finds you well. My apologies for all I have missed. I am so out of touch at the moment. I have stayed away from RMWeb for several reasons. Partly due to a serious attack from the black dog. This was caused by the November rains which brought flooding to Derbyshire. The shop escaped damage, unlike many nearby. But the result was a massive reduction in trade during the month. December improved, but the worries that it brought as we approached the festive season caused a major downturn in my mood and wellbeing. It has not made thing strained between Sarah and I - it can't be easy for her living with me when I am like that. Hopefully most things are beginning to turn around now - here's to a more positive 2020. Regards Andy Great to see you back and hope that the black dog is now kennel-bound. 1 16

Which I can work through is her theory. (On the positive side several very useful documents long thought lost have now been found.) My parents died a few weeks apart about 5 years ago. My mother was losing the plot but Dad had been fully with it until three days before he died. He had been quite organised and sorted a lot of his own stuff whilst in his 80s. Mom was a bit of a hoarder possibly as a result of losing everything during an air raid when she was 14. She would keep Christmas cards so she could update the list each year but would never throw them out when finished with. I found quite a lot of old things, including paperwork for a house purchase in 1967 and an original paper typed up by Mom when she worked for our GP. He was a leading light at the time in the field of General Practice and an expert in the treatment of diabetes to the extent of being a visiting Professor at some overseas Medical School. I still have that as a link to them both because as a young doctor who had not long started his career as a GP he was the person who attended my birth. Another thing in loads were old family photos. One of these was a studio portrait c1890 showing my paternal Great Grandmother who I remember living in the Jewellery Quarter in the 1950s along with her brothers and sisters, mother and father who was born in 1835. There were also several of her sons in WW1 uniforms which I think came from the home of her youngest son when he died in 2004. 9

Popular Post Ian Abel
Morning... for me. Successful return from JFK, not issues/delays so exactly the way I like it PEOTS today, will work maybe another couple of hours then will have fulfilled my allowed 40! Tomorrow evening we've planned a party in our new house for the local group from the old one. We generally got together a few times a year so the Mrs decided we should host an early in the new year party for the group. Will be fun, BUT, has the Mrs in a bit of a panic getting the place ready for our first actually party rather than small family or friends get togethers. Other than that, not much scheduled for the weekend. I'm hoping (New Years resolution and all that!!) to start re-building the layout that had to be dismantled for the move - we'll see if that actually manages to make the "schedule" Bit nippy getting the paper this morning at -9, partly sunny and that's also at the high for the day, overnight expected to go to -17 Carry on 18
AndyID
On paw patrol yesterday some geese in the lake were making quite a racket. An eagle was attacking them. Then I went into the docs to make an appointment to see Debbie, , an hour later I was leaving with BP machine. No dots or lines with this one, you align the tube to the inside of your arm. When I came out everything was wet. Debbie turns out to be from Stonehaven where I've stayed a few days in a yacht storm dodging. The main meal Has involved Swede chips... Eatable but I'm not impressed... Further experiments will be tried.... 20minutes and it's of to the MRC, but first a Muggacoffee... 7

I'll have to shovel the (about 1 in 4) driveway before we go out in the car, or we could end up in the backyard of the house across from us. It's going to get cold here next week, too. Not as cold as -4F, but down to about 9F. Son and family are supposed to be starting out to drive back to Nelson tomorrow - it's a 2-day journey at this time of year. We'll see if that happens as scheduled. 9

They also, eventually, revealed that they could not confirm whether the meter that would be fitted was one of the second generation of smart meters (“SMETS2” meters) which should allow households to switch supplier without losing smart functionality. Note that the statement about SMETS2 metres only says 'should' too. 9 9
RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted January 10, 2020 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted January 10, 2020 Exciting day at work. Brought the laptop home to see if I can make a bit more progress over the weekend. New skilks aplenty. But I note I'm on the team's cake rosta next week. So I suspect they may prefer I get my apron on instead! Also got to clear out some redundant baseboards and make some L-girders as replacements. Busy weekend beckons! There was a nice sight from the office window today - QM2 moored up. Better than some of the floating skyscrapers that we see.
