Evening all from Estuary-Land. Seems to be a day for water main leaks today. One near to Tony's between Tarpots and Sadlers Farm and the other at the other end of my street. Perhaps now the water pressure will be back to normal.

Still up and the good news is that I found the electrical problem which was the pond pump causing the GFI to pop!  Thats something for the Spring as the water is too cold these days!

By the time I got home it had dropped from 40 psi to 23 psi. Managed to swap it for the spare after I had discovered where the jack and tools are hidden and eventually worked out how to drop the spare which is held under the truck be by a hand operated winch. Those big wheels are not half heavy.

 

Sounds just like the local Council dump at Stevenage* - go in there at your peril, cos the place is littered with nails and screws.  I avoid the places like the plague now.

 

*As well as plenty of other locations too.  If only they were built on an iron grid, so that such items dropped through, out of harm's way.  Along with people's car keys......

So not very practical I suspect.

Good morning all,

Dry and a bit frosty and foggy here but it should be a reasonably fine day.

Rugby watched and enjoyed yesterday with Exeter beating Sarries in a fairly close game. At one time it looked as though the latter wouldn't score which would have been the first time that happened in 9 years.

First task today is a visit to the doctor to discuss blood test results and check BP again. He increased my dose of Candesartan last time so hopefully that will have done the trick but then there will be an interesting discussion about statins. My inclination at the moment is to avoid them as opinions both here and and amongst other friends are divided about 50/50.  However I suppose I should really listen to what the doc says.

Bob I noted all the conversations here about statins in the last couple of days. The mood change was completely new to me. Steroids will definitely induce mood change. Statins never did for me.

 

I have the overweight middle-aged white man trifecta - managed hypertension, cholesterol and type-2 diabetes. I am on medication for all of them plus a couple of other things.

 

I am unaware of side effects with my medications. I'm sure my kidneys will fail in the long run - presumably before my family history with prostate cancer catches up with me.

 

In the meantime I have to assume that they are also forestalling heart problems. Talking to your doctor, who hopefully knows you well enough, is a good idea. Share your concerns with your physician and good luck.

A poor nights sleep,  due to various aches and pains. I'd get comfortable, fall asleep,  then wake an hour or so later,  in pain and have to find a new comfortable position. 

 

Ben the alarm clock Collie got me out on morning patrol,  it was cloudless,  starry sky,  a bit of a very chilly wind.  No pretty pictures from here as yesterday we were still clagged out at sunset. 

 

The aches and pains indicate I won't be doing a third day inside the hull.  However I might use the Hoover to clear much of the dust,  by using the long tube to reach in.  Followed by more sewing. 

 

After a Muggacoffee, pink pills and breakfast, a trip into town is required for  milk and minor foodstuffs.

Morning, SWMBO requires a taxi to the local hospital for an ultra sound scan, Arthur itis is playing up again and her specialist says he's found things he's not seen before so a scan is required. Have a nice day all

I could think of better things to do with my time, but I have been ordered to  be sociable.

As well as having a close friend who is having an operation for colon cancer next week, we've just earned that another dear friend has just been diagnosed with cancer of the spine and liver. On top of that she's suffering from the Brexit thing as she is Dutch by birth but despite having lived in this country for over forty years and having been married to a British man for more than thirty of those years she's been informed that she will have to apply to stay. How that will affect her treatment under the NHS we don't yet know. It's a bu**er isn't it?

Please tell her not to worry about her "settled status" application. A French friend of mine, in much more uncertain situation than your friend, has been through the process and found it very easy.

Like last week it's a day early as I want to avoid the hordes that will no doubt be there tomorrow stocking up on stuff for new year.

I totally agree with you and had big concerns for my friend who is single and self-employed.

 

But it seems that we are doing the right thing by our EU residents. From past experience, I somehow doubt that my British friends in parts of France will get the same consideration.

 

She should not consider it as "begging". Just another unnecessary admin procedure to go through. Got to employ our civil servants somehow.

Good morning from a very hazy Birmingham. Had breakfast and bern for a walk to collect ticket for later. Wasn't easy booking a Travel card from Redhill. When you go on National Rail it's straight forward till you select to purchase. Avanti and GWR would not show the ticket but Southern did. I try to avoid anything to do with Govia but had to use tytm this time. Having a trwvelcard from Redhill allows travel back home outside the tfl zones plus allows us to catch the tfl bus from Redhill Station home.

The Tess Coe Grand Prix this morning,  was more of a veteran car run, very quiet this morning .

The few items amplified to £75, as I had a double points voucher.  £25 of that was my favourite Amber liquid, of which they seem to be rationing 1 bottle in store at a time. The rest was mostly stuff that won't age,  washing tabs,  bleach etc. 

Oh And Ben the happy Border Collie got his favorite chew sticks I forgot for Christmas , I'm being rewarded by him lying alongside me cuddling in....

It' interesting hearing about EU citizens in the UK.  We are obviously the opposite way round.  So far we have had very few problems. Health is certainly OK for at least a couple of years.  The biggest problem at the moment is driving licences. We applied for French ones in March but our applications are stuck in a black hole at Nantes. However our photo's expired in November and we might have problems if stopped in the UK.  We certainly can't hire a car in the UK at the moment so flying or train back home is no longer an option.  The French Government has streamlined the procedure for residence permits and once the Insurance brokers reopens in the New Year we will have all the papers we need to start the process online.  I suppose that I will be forced to go and talk to the fair Laetitia to get the document I need. It's a hard life.

 

Fortunately neither Beth or I are worriers so we are taking it in our stride but a friend of ours is finding it difficult.  She is very worried on the health front due to the fact that her partner's healthcare is dependent on hers at the moment.

 

However the sun is shining, the paint is drying nicely and the wine and Cognac are cheap.

My job for today is to replace a dripping tap; one of those ceramic disc things so can't just do the washer.

 

If you see me waving (not drowning), I'm probably ok. If you see bubbles it's probably all gone belly up

A gentle stroll through the fog to the doc was taken. As I already knew blood tests had come back fine but BP still too high at 161/103  which is a bit concerning so an addition to medication has been made along with a further appointment for next week. He didn't mention statins so neither did I.

The sun is breaking through the fog so it looks like being a pleasant day.

That reminds me, yesterday I got behind the TV to tidy up cables and fit a new tower power adapter, my knee seized up and I got a bit stuck.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Watching Antiques Roadshow last night and they said it was recorded at Strawberry Hill House. However it was not a regular program but a follow up program about some of the items bought in for valuation. The surprise was a Chinese caligraphers water dropper purchased for £10 and eventually sold at auction for £50,000! Not a lot to do today except get the papers in so I might give my friend a call and take the young mans scooter in for replacement.

Its quite a simple job, just take the top off of the tap and unscrew the disc and replace. Only do remember to turn the water off first.
