Before I retire to bed and on account of knowing already that I am unlikely to be here tomorrow may I beg a moment's reflection? We have several ERs who have, in one way or another, been to sea or who still choose to spend time afloat. I was never one to leave safe harbour but always hung around the boats after school which is how I came to know James Stephen Madron as a youngster. Being from the next village and always hanging around the boats we all knew "Trev", Trevelyan Richards, just because of his position in the community and on the lifeboat. Never forgotten, lads. https://rnli.org/about-us/our-history/timeline/1981-penlee-lifeboat-disaster Real lump in the throat time.
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all It’s beginning to come together. A dawn raid on Tesco yesterday morning yielded sundry ancillary supplies for life support purposes whilst I am away. Puzzled? Don’t be. The price of Vaseline and Savlon in Switzerland is, like the price of everything else, frighteningly high. I should pack sticking plasters in case I sustain damage of the type that they can fix! Today will be devoted largely to remembering what else I have forgotten to put in the case. Barry, your advice is sound as always. I intend both to concentrate on the trip and to ensure that it is a good one. Many of the usual suspects are on the passenger list and already I have had a phone call luring me to the hurly-burly of a handy ale house tomorrow night to put the world to rights over a pint. Sadly there will be one absentee, for one of my friends has had to withdraw from the trip on health grounds. His companionship will be sorely missed. Hope remains alive that JohnDMJ and I will be able to have a brief encounter with Flavio during our time in Switzerland. I hope it can be arranged so that I can also ride on the steam tram in Bern! I think that Barry has twigged with his customary shrewdness that I have something else on my mind. I must keep it to myself this time, not just because it is the festive season but because I hope that a period of quiet reflection will benefit those concerned. Let’s just say that I have little cause for optimism. Best wishes to all Chris 5

RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Ey up! Off to a family gathering today. I am driving as youngest Herbert has received a dose of the stomach virus so is unwell. (It must be bas, he rang me from a gig he was attending to say he was on the way home after being sick) Hopefully he will recover before Christmas. Very frosty here this morning. Not good for charging Beast up! Still the heated seats and steering wheel should come in handy! Use your time wisely today! Positive thoughts to all who ail! Anyone heard from Trisonic recently?? Andyram seems busy at his shop (hope he is having a profitable Christmas) Baz 12

Maybe part of a bike, it would definitely be a Derailleur set up like that... Mooring awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1082 / 676 A very poor nights sleep of 1 hour+ 2 hours + indeterminate semi dozing.. Exceedingly heavy rain last night, So Ben the I'm not going out in that Collie didn't, he was somewhat desperate this morning though and did go out in the dark, but not beyond the lights from the house.. Added to the things failing around us SWMBO came home from weaving complaining about the headlights …. so I went out to check, left hand side has failed on dipped. It at least is a standard H4 bulb, though how much of a wrestling match it will be to get in, I don't know. it certainly was difficult to change the side light bulb.. So on the shopping list at the moment is, H4 bulb, 2X tap revivers, one battery for the in car camera / navigator which is a lipo claiming to be 3.2 mm thick but 700 mA.. Not that size it isn't (35mm X 50mm), So I'll just have to get the biggest that I can find that will fit in that small space.. Stopping off at Screwfix on the way home and now at Wilco car parts for the lights, just a few hundred yards further on, the lipo will have to be researched and internet ordered. I could see fog lifting from the fields on the way home and the odd bank of which stretched onto the road. But the was no fog this morning, there was river water on the road though, as the rivers are still high and the Amber warning lasts till the weekend. Time to... head for the lab and measure some Currents.. (no not sultanas) 4

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Morning all from a part of The Charente that has managed to stay dry for a while. A very good evening was had with two good friends who came over for dinner. Beth did a dish with slices of pork fillet in creme freche and whole grain mystard served with rice and veg. It was excellent, as was the company and conversation. I appear to have accumulated some brownie points as the plumbing was finished yesterday. I better get them cashed in before some unknown sin if commission or omission causes them to expire. Somehow an order has been despatched to Slaters. Anyway we will shortly be off to feed another friends chickens that we are looking after while she is back in the UK. We couldn't find any fresh straw yesterday so I went and asked one of our farmer neighbours if I could buy some. He wouldn't take anything and gave me a whole bale. Good folk. Good luck to our travellers in Switzerland and good to see Mike back with us. Regards to all. Jamie 20

Popular Post AndrewC
Morning all from a chilly but clear boring borough. Been a few days but... still coughing my guts out. Quack says it has to run its course. More Night Nurse and rest. Today is day 35. Getting boring now. Offspring and his girlfriend have come & gone. His 30th birthday on Saturday followed by an early Christmas day with all the trimmings on Sunday. Health check review by nurse on Monday. Weight down, cholesterol down, blood sugar well good, prostate markers non-existent, but..... blood pressure way up. Nursey was hinting about statins. Fork that! Now for a follow up visit with the quack if the practice can ever work out how to operate their new fangled appointment system. A further full blood work ordered for 90 days down the road. 12 days before I get the cortisone injection in my knee. Hoping this stalls out surgery by another 5 years. It appears my factory warranty is well and truly expired. Way too much to try and catch up on, although it seems things are ticking over on ERs quite normally for a change. Enjoy the day. coffee and more forking meetings is my day's outlook. 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Good morning, Yesterday turned out to be a failure in matters follicle as the rest of Hitchin wanted their’s done during my window of opportunity. A further effort will be made this morning. We are at Kensington Gore this afternoon as SWMBO has tickets to see The Messiah. This is certainly not my mug or even a cup of tea but she has always been one for choral screeching singing. Not only will this diminish the “ready use” muddling tokens but I shall also have to buy her a meal on Kensington High Street - rowlocks and striped mints. Cribbage was very pleasant last night, aided by the fact that whoever I partnered, we won! Grandkids 1 to 3 have decided that they wish to be indulged in some retail therapy this weekend and, as I am elsewhere on Saturday, that will be Sunday, won’t it - amongst the rest of the world who will be on the same exercise I would guess. I will not be doing that with the other two grandkids as they are too young and I could lose them. More muddling tokens will be distributed to non-muddling causes then. At least SWMBO’s main gift can be collected whilst I have the dubious pleasure of navigating three around the massed hoards - perhaps they view it as navigating me? Time to elevate myself - crape dime if you can and sympathies if for whatever reason you can’t.

RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Morning All Great to hear from Mike and a rare contribution from Mick as well - more from both of you, please. There's still a few missing ERs, but we do come and go. Sorry that I was AWOL again, but the fodder run yesterday took a lot longer than normal - it appears that the Christmas rush to the supermarkets has started quite early this year. And as ever these days, the number of posts is getting more, and it is taking time to read and rate them, AND to visit the other parts of RMWeb, and the other websites that need to be visited. So apologies, but it has to be the now too regular generic greetings to the ailing and the celebrating, with a supportive thought for Chris, whatever it be that you're harbouring. Don't forget that we're here to offer cyber support any time it's needed. Was at the LASAR shop Christmas do last evening, and it rained which meant that the car got wet, which meant that I couldn't cover it last night when I got in, which meant that when the temperature dropped by about 3 degrees more than predicted, the car was like an igloo this morning (see below for why that was an issue). It's 30747's day off another day at work due to illness. We were going out for all or part of the day, but Skipton will have to wait - no doubt Drake and Macefield will not go bust for the want of selling me some of their pies. Instead, I am bidden that some painting needing to be done in the kitchen - oh frabjoy. Regards to All Stewart 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Good morning from a chilly Surrey where mum is. Just been to stop off prescription renewal at doctors then soon off yo a friends to talk DCC. After that back home to drop car off thrn into Croydon for beer with ex work colleague to hear of any recent gossip at old work place but more importantly talk and drink beer and find out how he has got on with clearing his mums estate as she had only very recently passed away when we last met for beers in the Summer. I have already done a bit of muddling in shed early this morning. 17

Penderyn - too light for me by far - even their peated version seemed to be a bit so - but then I cut my eye teeth on Lagavulin, as I was introduced to single malts by a guy whom I met in the Pot Still in Glasgow many years ago, and who said that if I could cope with that, I could cope with anything whisky related - the guy in question was a whisky writer, and he was right, though it left me with a bias towards peat and phenol. As to Monkland, it's just off the A44 and just out of Leominster if I'm not mistaken, and the do some very nice cheeses - 30747's best friend lives about two miles from there, so we pass it (and drop on for a few examples) quite frequently. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted December 18, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 18, 2019 Good morning everyone Another frosty start to the day, but as I don’t have to go out anywhere this morning, I don’t need to defrost the car. There isn’t a lot planned for this morning, Sheila will be doing her laundry chores in the kitchen so apart from emptying the bins, which I’ll do when she has gone upstairs, I’ll just keep out of the way! Yesterday after id made the curry sauce (3.5 litres of the stuff) I also made some red velvet cakes, so they will need decorating, but that can wait until after dinner. Later this afternoon I will be on the school run. Enjoy the day, back later.

Popular Post tigerburnie
Morning, bright and very frosty today, off out for lunch in a bit with SWMBO and her chum whose hubby is also a muddler, so an interesting chat always occurs. Talking of Whisky, which we seem to be doing a fair bit just now, I too am a lover of the products of Islay(where most peated whisky used to come from, now everyone's at it), but I am presently enjoying a Glen Elgin, this happens to be a 21 year old from Signatory(an independent bottler), most pleasant and for those who say they don't like whisky, here's one you might, quite unusual. 19
