RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 14, 2019 Good morning all, Dull here with showers forecast and possible some sunshine later. Fell asleep last night watching rugby so must have been tired. Went to bed at 9.45 and slept solidly till 6.00, rolled over and slept again till 7.15. That is unheard of in GDB land. Didn't get to the chemist yesterday so a stroll round there is today's first essential task as I'm almost out of one of the items. Second up will be the wrapping of Christmas presents. The only ones I do are those for The Boss. Judging by the pile in the back bedroom that she has wrapped I think she must be one of Santa's elves in disguise. After that I have some financial juggling to do as my pensions have arrived in my bank accounts. Once that is completed I can settle down and watch some more rugby. Have a good one, Bob. 17

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 14, 2019 Morn8ng all. It's still somewhat maritime here and no doubt the muddy hollow is growing but no hippos have been sighted.....yet. however I will be driving past a hipodrome today. Time was spent productively in the shed last night. At this rate I will have to order emergency supplies of low melt solder. The supplies that Ian(RH) brought to London for me are being well used. This morning the nurse has been and Beth and I are going to set off to our different destinations. She to a Brocante (antique sale) and I to talk about forbidden objects that run on strips of metal. I will also be delivering the paint that Baz kindly got for me. Then it's off to buy a new paraffin heater for use in the muddling room in the shed. Finally this evening we are off to a drinkathon at the salle de fete aka a Repas de Noel. It may take some time and fortunately we only have 150 metres to stagger home. We can hang on to the wall for guidance if that is necessary. Regards to all Jamie 21 1
RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 14, 2019 I need to bit the bullet and take a drill to my chop saw. I cannot release the blade, despite all the usual techniques to get the blasted thing off. The reason I need to get the blade off is becasue the blade guard operating mechanism has somehow become inoperable: I thing it is a simple case of either a bolt coming loose, or the spring jumping off it's retaining lug. Because the blade and spindle housing is a one piece casting, I am loathe to apply much in the way of heat to try and ease the problem. If I drill out the blade retaining bolt (well take the head off and release the blade) I can then drill out the centre of the remains and use a stud extractor to remove what's left. Of course, I would have done this yesterday but couldn't find the stud extractors. Guess who has them? Yes, the PH, and I've also discovered he has BOTH my pipe wrenches. I can feel an outing in the big black car will occur shortly...............to Screwfix. Although the trip out will be tempered by a call by to Ian Morton's shop, Modelscape, as I need some fine wire and various bits of metal section. 3
RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2019 Morning, daylight and full-ish moon shining-ish. Muggertea delivered to boss (who was dissatisfied with my opening of bedroom curtains it seems). WE have to think about Christmas food shopping now and your ‘umble scribe must spend time on outside decorations that would hugely p!ss off Ms G Thurnburg. Sympathies to GDB supporting his team of oval ball chasers, my lot will get their stuffing from a team of the same island later. With many days yet until the “big” day, our fridge and larder will need stocking anyway. KZ cannot live on the love of SWMBO alone and chance would be a fine thing any such mucky thoughts need to be served up with much advance notice (so I can run away)! May I urge caution to Jamie on intending to use a paraffin heater in his man-cave? Remember that all burners consume oxygen (as does local low-life) and such heaters also generate CO2 and some CO in the products of combustion. I would hate to lose his contributions from this place. 14 2
bbishop
Still a very unhappy bunny. I don't think anyone queries the outcome, just the consequences of that outcome. At least we don't have widespread gerrymandering, vote denial and the rejection of voting forms due to the wrong shaped hole. A change in constituency boundaries has been outstanding for several years. This would have benefitted the Conservative Party, presumably less so now they hold many of the seats due for amalgamation. It would also piss off the SNP as many of their tiny Glasgow seats would disappear. Bill 3 2
RMweb Premium Dave Hunt Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 14, 2019 Cheer up Bill, it could be worse (not eaxactly sure how, but I'm sure it could be as that's what my dear old Mum used to say) and there's still model railways. Popular Post Simon G
Morning all, Rather sore and partly deaf this morning. The soreness is in my arm after I had both a flu jab and a pneumococcal jab yesterday. The latter had a long list of side effects, but fortunately I only have this soreness around the injection area. The deafness is due to a wax build up, which is an issue that I have had for over 40 years. Ear drops are in use, and hopefully I can wash the wax out later today. it is a bit wild and windy here today, but at least it is dry. I will venture up the garden at some point to find come carrots and a leek to make some soup out of chicken stock, which is being defrosted. We are trying to empty the freezer a bit in advance of family descending on us for Christmas. 9

I see politics have entered the scene again by the same person as previous times give it a rest please instead get a soap box and buqqer off to Speakers Corner. RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 14, 2019 Where has the pale sunshine gone? Rain is hammering tapping on my windowpane and I've turned on the lights! RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 14, 2019 ' morning all from red dragon land. Looking through a new pair of specs - Wow, I can see you all, at last! A tad windy this morning but rain has stopped. Most of the Ch******s cards done, only to find out, yesterday (via google after finding her website had been taken down) when I got to her card, that one of my college friends I had kept in touch with died last February. Still, I have many lovely comforting memories and thankful I am still around for awhile. A hard thought though. A day of taking it easy beckons. Take care all. _________________ Best wishes Polly 6

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 14, 2019 (edited) Morning all from Estuary-Land. Sunny/cloudy/sunny here this morning and that means its windy. Not up to hooley standards but the wind noise is noticable. (No not that wind noise!) A word of warning if you are having a 'real' Christmas tree in the house. There is a rising incidence of such trees harbouring insect eggs. When the trees are bought indoors the light and heat triggers the hatching of those eggs. People have found their homes infested with juvenile insects and/or spiders. It is happening quite often in the US but a few instances have been reported in the UK. RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted December 14, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 14, 2019 The trip to Modelscape was a bit more expensive than first thought. Ian Moreton has a very persuasive way of making my wallet bleed money. (Mini Mars bars.) However, it was a worthwhile trip, as I also called in to see the PH en route. This diversion resulted in the recovery of various workshop items including the stud extractors. it also revealed that the PH had used 'bit of threadlock on the bolt of the mitre saw as it kept working loose'. Thanks! Now I know the cause of the reluctance of the bolt to escape, I'll give it another dose of heat with the bigger gas torch (also recovered from PH Grange), which might be quicker and less traumatic than my previous plan. 16

Other languages I have been known to make use of include French, German, Spanish, Portuguese, Welsh, Cornish and Latin. Not necessarily correctly nor fluently. Last evening was cold in the wind and the brass band were having trouble making fingers correctly operate valves but we coped. Wine was mulled and suitably warm. Attendance was slightly down on last year and everyone beat a hasty retreat indoors as the final notes were played. Today has been a festival of up-cleaning and down-wiping which should have been done yesterday but wasn't. The consequence of that is the shopping trip has been deferred until tomorrow morning which might mean slightly less chaos and argy-bargy in the aisles. I have been very kindly offered some suggestions of how to make things work when 12 volts is applied. I feel in need of some sort of therapy so before the next dose of Laughing Water is due I may investigate the advice and see what happens. Have a safe weekend one and all. 16
woodenhead
Well it may have been cold and damp this morning but I put on my new bestest warm waterproof(ish) coat and headed out to Parkrun as a token handler. Glad I wasn't running as Mother Nature had placed a few obstacles around the run - a mud bath and a new lake but the coat did it's job. My germophobia seems to be less of an issue, last week I was stroking dogs and handling tokens after a record number of people threw up at the end of the run, this week I was sorting tokens whilst eating a bacon butty. This afternoon I think will be spent on xtrkcad seeing what I can fit in 7 ft by 60 cm ( don't ask why I happily mix metric and imperial) 14

This has happened to me on a number of occasions, where friends have died and you don't find out about it until much later. Yes it can be stressful, but letting friends know in good time doesn't cause them the embarrassment, and the recipients relatives the added grief of receiving a Christmas or birthday card/gift for some one who has been deceased for 6 months or so. I appreciate it can be a stressful time, but found that it was quite a simple task to go through (the last one I did was my father) the address book and email address list he kept and email/write to those he kept in touch with. 15
