Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Didn't get a lot in todays shopping, bread and papers basically. I have started on looking at items for Christmas dinner. A bit early yet as I like to have things as fresh as possible but if I leave it too late some things that I want might sell out, its all in the timing. Todays dinner will be prepared in the next hour or two, fish pie.

A little snippet. Today is the 80th anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate. Now a little teaser, which actor in the film had been a Royal Navy officer for real in WW2 and what character did he play in the film? A clue, he played a Royal Navy officer.

I was wondering what happened. I was about to give your post a like when it said I couldn't do so. when I came out of the thread and then back in again it had gone, very strange.

Dr. Doom declared that in my instance trying to fix it was shaky, would involve numerous visits and cost a few quid.

Plan B was an implant, which in DIY terms involves a rawlplug in the jaw and then a new tooth screwed in

Actually, the second worst bit was removing the busted goober (which actually wasn't as bad as I expected)

The implant process was pretty straightforward, and pretty high tech - titanium implant, 3d printed new tooth, colour matched to existing, tightened up with a titchy torque wrench

The worst bit was paying the bill

I am apparently going to visit someone called Carole Servis shortly.  At half past 18 o'clock, under a pointy tree with lights and shiny orbs decorating it and some 50 yards away outside the local Thai Massage Parlor (sic)  

 

SWMBO is to meet me there and we return after A-weighing our Manger and Harking our Singing Herald Angels for food and drinkies to mark the onset of the weekend.

 

I may return later tonight.  Or not.  It may or may not depend upon how mulled the Red Laughing Water is and how much is proffered

Ooooh carols.  Odd for an atheist but I like Ch&^%$£s music.  Mrs NHN hates it, so I don't get to hear much.  I may sneak into the Cathedral for a recital if I have time one lunchtime.  I like pipe organ music too.

Oh, swearing at the decals looks like it helped, used acrylic gloss varnish not Klear, which didn't dry very glossy, but the decals look like they are drying OK with decasol on them.  Then a touch of matt varnish tomorrow.

Bad news from the travel company this afternoon; my train from Paris Gare de Lyon to Basel next Tuesday has been cancelled! Instead, the Company has secured me tickets from Paris Gare de l'Est to Basel via Strasbourg (yawn!) with a suitable refund. Hey Ho! It's only a short walk from PGdN[ord] to PGdl'E (quicker than by Metro!) so just hope it's not raining!

 

Thanks to all who have kept me posted on the situation in France thus far. Much appreciated!

Got lots of little jobs done today. A message late this afternoon from one of my old team members has set the rabbits running to get another team get together sorted. So it looks like Team PGTE will be eating curry and gobbing on about old (and new) times next April.(PGTE.. it is Precision Gunnery Training Equipment and was the reason I spent some time in Silicon Valley  in 2004 visiting Silicon Graphics.

 

Tea has been eaten, fishchipsandmushy peas... naughty but nice!

 

Sounds like Rick and Sharron should have a nice night out...

Sonoma County can still charming, even though the population has exploded.  You need to avoid 101 during "rush" hour however.

 

Along with the homes of many others, sadly the late Charles Schulz' Santa Rosa home burned down in the Tubbs Fire in 2017. His widow escaped.

The fang fixer lady put a temporary filling into the broken molar today but thinks that it will need a crown so I have to go back next Thursday for assessment. Whatever the outcome, a large number of modelling tokens will be involved - bu**er!

 

Main achievements of the day were finishing the Christmas cards (at last), visiting the local (well, twelve miles away) model shop for various essential supplies, getting a couple of hours modelling done, and making a nice salmon dish for dinner.

 

As Bugs Bunny would say, "That's all Folks."

I can get by in Germany but laziness usually lets me leave communication to Aditi wherever we are. English was her third language. When she arrived in England aged six her Dad insisted that only English was to be spoken. However this didn’t seem to be rigidly enforced when he was out at work. Aditi said her Mum would start telling her and her sister off in English, then Hindi and Punjabi if really cross. She added Latin, French and German at school and continued to study the two latter languages “for fun”. She became quite good at understanding Urdu when working in Newham. We once found a lost and confused Muslim cleric wandering up and down our road where he had been left by a taxi. It must have been sheer luck that he met the only person locally who could understand him and direct him.

POETS and we went in search of the Christmas tree.

Amazingly, Christmas tree sourced, from our preferred location even though they only had 8 trees left, one was deemed suitable by the Mrs.

All we have to do now is rearrange the living room to bring it in, I still think it's going to not "quite" be short enough once it's in the stand, this will require the use of sharp and dangerous tools to correct the situation - will report tomorrow on the proceedings
