These days I would not touch conditions like this, although I had driven up from London en route to Oban at he time. Crumbs just realised that this was well over 50 years ago. I hitched over the A66 one night in the winter of 1967/8. I got a single lift from Carlisle to Wetherby, from a courier taking computer tapes from Glasgow to Leeds (many years before the world wide web!). The road was clear, but the snow banks at the side were several feet high. His schedule meant an overall average speed of 50mph. At several points on the A66, he was doing more than 80! One of the more exciting lifts I remember.

Bodedga Bay Brian? Sonoma County can still charming, even though the population has exploded. You need to avoid 101 during "rush" hour however. Along with the homes of many others, sadly the late Charles Schulz' Santa Rosa home burned down in the Tubbs Fire in 2017. His widow escaped. 1 1 11

AndyID
Without revealing any particular political affiliations I do find it interesting that a certain political figure in the UK has been reluctant to be interviewed by one Andy Neil. Andy Neil and I were in the same secondary year at a school in Paisley and, at one time, Andy and I were quite interested in model railways. I'm not sure if Andy retained his interest in model railways but I did. 13

Popular Post chrisf
Greetings. It would stretch credulity to the limits to describe this morning as good. I've been drifting in and out of slumber since 11 pm but the nightmare will not go away. What was once a hot bath awaits me and I will soak away some of my aches and pains before trying to get a grip and carry on. As I sipped my morning cuppa I caught up with my e-mails, only to find that one of my friends from the Swiss trip needs a hip replacement and has had to pull out of the holiday. Is there no escape from trouble? Because some people still cannot park tidily my car is once again in the next street and must be retrieved. Things can only get better? Wrong election, I fear. I feel for the casualties of the ballot box and feel nothing but loathing for a pompous bumbling windbag best not identified here. That's right, Chris, you say what you mean. Apart from a few predictable exceptions, best wishes to all Chris 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Ey up! Morreasons to be visited so mugatea needs to e drunk. I had a phone call from the eye surgery. Out of the blue they sent me a text giving me an appointment. (It has been agreed I would see them in March). I rang and let them know I was away on the day proposed. Worringly the receptionists said "the Doctor wants to see you ASAP" so I am off to see him on Saturday morning. What does he know that I don't? Positive day yesterday fitting LED strips to the train set. Bought from B&M ( other shops will have them) I can now see in the yard of fiddle. So a bit of transport testing was undertaken. Some items were then repaired. More to do today. Have a great day! Be positive in everything you do! Special thoughts to all who ail especially our long suffering Debs. Baz 4
Ozexpatriate
The local television news have had a field day lately. Don't worry, they weren't reporting on politics, though their usual "if it bleeds it leads" kind of story did just that. A California burger chain with a cult following, today opened a new (third) location in Oregon that is now their most northerly outlet. Despite the fact that it is at least 45 miles (45 minutes with no traffic) south from downtown Portland and there must be thousands of other locations to procure hamburgers that are far more convenient for Portlanders, the TV news have been running "when will they open" stories all week, culminating in live remotes of the opening today. People drove or stood in queues for hours on opening day. (Apparently for three to four hours in the drive-through.) One of the requirements for opening was a traffic plan. Today's traffic was diverted through a zig-zag queue in the car park of the local minor league baseball stadium to accommodate the long queues. (There's no baseball in winter.) Having lived in California I am familiar with the In-N-Out Burger chain. Despite it's huge following (in my humble opinion) it is overrated. I found the caramelized onions in particular to be greasy. Back in the day, "lads" with pick up trucks would modify the chain's bumper stickers by removing the "B" and "R" from "BURGER" resulting in something like this: IN-N-OUT URGE It was a thing. They were everywhere. Inevitably there was a kerfuffle and the company discontinued this design of bumper sticker. 14 4
RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2019 Good morning from across La Manche. I finally got to sleep about 1am our time. Nuff said. Beth is still struggling with the insulin doses and seems to be caught in between what the nurses think she should be taking and what the Dr has written. Hopefully things will start to settle down in due course. On another tack completely the house in Morley that we are selling has finally gone on the market and has appeared on Zoopla. Rather worryingly it is not on the estate agent's website. Hopefully that will be resolved today but we do have a viewing tomorrow. The sooner we can get it sold the better. Meantime life carries on with various things to do and errands to run today. It isn't actually raining at the moment but the muddy hollow on the way out of the village is growing. If things go well I may even be able to escape to the shed at some point. Regards to all. Jamie 14
RMweb Premium Popular Post Neil Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Woke up to find that turkeys really do vote for Christmas, therefore I am contemplating doing one of those Ancestry DNA tests in the hope I can prove that I have Viking blood in me and can claim citizenship of a Scandinavian country. Plan B involves invoking Mrs Rs Scottish parentage and moving north. 5 2 2
RMweb Premium New Haven Neil Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2019 Morning. Wet. (Outside). Thanks for the insights into California life, folks. It would appear the American Dream isn't all it appears! Surprised about the overbearing officialdom in the land of the free. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2019 (edited) Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1087/679. Five 5 hours, Sleep wonderful, helped by pink pills and 18.5 cl of wine, after that nothing, but intermittant dozes on the sofa. overall I'm knackered. That left me watching a certain event, which went as expected, not neccessarily how I wanted or some others with blinkers expected.. My back has eased considerably, though I expect to take more pink pills at tea break. I'm working on some must do shunts, before returning to the Calibrator. I'm not surprised at the USA's officialdom, as I go on sailing sites, which based in america show an awful lot of bureaucracy the UK sailor does not have. Today is unusual at home, SWMBO is going to the funeral of the husband of the lady she is teaching to paint. After which she is dog sitting for her, as the lady goes to a private family cremation. So I need to be prompt home today, as Ben will be on his own for a long time. Tonight is MRC Night, it will be Much Fencing on the Marsh again, I estimate another 200 posts to be put in.. RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Morning All Sorry I didn't get here, but the fridge, and microwave (cleaning), then the kitchen ceiling (painting) take priority, apparently. Ian (OD) thinking on one's feet is a very good trait, and it appears to have served you well on your trip to be with Sherry. Jamie - the best way for Beth to get stablilised on insulin is to test, test, test her blood sugars, and to use the results to guide her dose - is she on one dose a day, or four? Every person reacts to insulin differently and her dose might have to vary with experience and test results. And of course, it's generic greetings to everybody else. So what's happening in 45156 land today? - a shift at LASAR, a visit to whatever branch of Barclays is available (Lancaster is still closed, even though Barclays website says differently, as does their "customer service" team based, of course, outside the UK where they don't even know where Lancaster is. Then pick up 30747 as she wants to have a bit of time in Lancaster after work. Back tomorrow Regards to All Stewart 17 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Just to make sure that last night was memorable in completely the wrong way I broke a tooth - a back molar no less - and am going to see the fang lady early this afternoon. She is Eastern European so no doubt will now have to apply to stay here. A Dutch friend of ours who has lived in the UK for over forty years and has been married to a British citizen for thirty-odd years was recently informed that she will have to apply to stay. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Diabetes is a funny condition for sure. I'm Type 2, and with no medication but with diet changes have reduced my A1c to 36 - non-diabetic level, so in remission. My BG's still vary wildly for no apparent reason on occasion, they were all over yesterday both high and low but steady today at a good level. I'm sure Beth will learn the 'way' Jamie, but odd blip days do happen! It's all about carbohydrates. Weight loss has helped too, BMI now 24 (ideal for my stats) from over 28. 15 1
RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2019 Good morning everyone Once again we have a day that is starting with wetness falling from the sky. Sheila has decided that she would like to come along on the Asda, Trafford Centre shopping trip today, so that will mean a much longer time will be spent there than usual. But it’s that time of the year when things need to be bought! Back later.
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted December 13, 2019 Good morning all, Dull start to the day here with sunny spells and showers a possibility. I managed to stay up until 3.30 then went to bed and got 4 hours sleep which will do for now. I have always refrained from making political comments here, will continue to do so and hope everybody else does. Waiting for a parcel today and then I need to take a walk to the chemist to pick up a prescription. Have a good one, Bob. 18
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted December 13, 2019 Good morning from an overcast Surrey. I like Ian (OD's) thinking. We would have probably done the same but very wary of the SWR strike at present. There is a relatively new bar in the parade of shops part of Exeter Central entrance called Tabac. More craft beer than ale but its not bad. Been in the shed working on the goods shed building. next will be the road bridge but with the windows shut the Humbrol Liquid Poly does get a bit over powering so may have to let some cold air in. Getting low on Liquid Poly so that needs to be added to the list of items to pick up at Squires after haircut along with more styrene sheets then to Gaugemaster to get he remaining 009 track and then it will be beer o'clock from there. 17 1
RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted December 13, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted December 13, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Not much to say about politics only that last nights results were not exactly unexpected but personally disappointing. I'm inclined to the same opinion of a certain politician as Chris F. Annoying thing this morning with regard to the election coverage on the BBC was there was no weather reports? or for that matter any other news other than the election. 6 3
