A surprisingly good nights sleep of almost 8 hours with just a couple of wake up to turn overs..

 

Ben the Border Collie refused to go out this morning... It was very old and the receding clouds were over the north Sea.

 

During Some exceedingly Hebridean Weather, northerly very cold wind, rain hammering on  the windows...

 

I was reading "The History of MacBraynes", bought because I need to make a model of the Clansman (2mm scale) and also because I used to travel by MacBraynes.. . 

It's frightening to see how Ferries were operated, several had single cylinder engines, to reverse them you cut off steam, the engineer had to stuff a crowbar into a hole in the propshaft which was still spinning due to the water flowing over the propeller. Then with all his weight get the propshaft to turn the other way and turn on  the steam.. later diesels also were directly connected to the propshaft, also had to be stopped and the ENGINE started in reverse to go backwards.. No wonder the ferries were cautious approaching piers.. The diesels like that were still in use well into the 1960's  ..

Flippin freezing overnight...house stayed warm though.

 

It will take a concerted efforr by all people and nations to reduce the impact of humanity on the world. Will it ever happen? I fear not.

 

Today is another catch up day. I understand that I may have things "to do". Pah!

 

Last indoor cricket umpiring tonight until next January. It is going to be cold.

 

Hope all of our ERs who are poorly in any way see improvements today.

So all this worry about CO, CO2 etc etc etc........what happens when the next big un goes off?

 

By this I mean mother natures own way of adding to global warming.........

 

Think Krakatoa, Mount St Helens, Vesuvius etc etc etc.

Actually when a big one goes off we get global cooling, as the chuck so much Carp into the sky it reflects sun back into space, and blocks it getting the the ground..

Morning all from a very cool Charente.  The builder has arrived to hopefully finish off.  He and I both have coffees. Beth is still asleep.  Lots of phone calls and odds and ends to do today.

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Very frosty this morning but at least there's no fog, nice and warm inside though. Slight problem with the new computer, it doesn't seem to have an 'enter' key? No doubt there is one right under my nose, if anyone can point me in the right direction its a Hewlett-Packard about 3 years old.

Morning All

 

Greetings to all, with the usual special mentions for Rick and Jamie for their respective missuses, for John, for Debs, and of course all who are ailing.

 

Three days running!?  This morning, I smugly stepped out to the car, and drove away while neighbours were still scraping theirs and running them up to get them warm - by the simple expedient of putting the cover on it last afternoon, and taking it off at the last minute before taking 30747 to work - no idea why people don't invest in one - in fact, we got ours for a couple of quid at the A6 car boot, because somebody couldn't be bothered to put it on at night.

 

Sister Drac this morning at 9, then hair appointment at 10.45, then fodder run, then pick up 30747 again - then Lily to vet for her toenails to be cut.  Busy day looms.  Starting now.

Good morning all,

Frosty start here , a dry and cloudy day forecast with occasional spells of sunshine.

Call gone out to central heating surgeon who will hopefully be here this afternoon. Heating working, hot water isn't so I'm assuming a fault with motorised valve. Unlike some of you this is beyond my capabilities to sort out so I will leave it to Sav who is a very nice chap and doesn't charge a fortune.

Each of those caused a global temperature decrease because of the effect of increased reflectance in the upper atmosphere reducing the amount of sunlight reaching the surface. It is b****y cold in NEHerts this morning, heavy frost everywhere! Tuesday being Tuesday, it is fish man, golf lessons for grandsons and cribbage but of course SWMBO will add to that no doubt. Sympathy to ChrisF for having been stung, these people would provide much to society if they used their undoubted skills for the benefit of humanity rather than for their own nefarious gains.
 

Major news is that the first of three 4-unit affordable barn-like units On the nearby CowboysRUs sitehad its roof tiles completed yesterday, the timber frames only went up in June so how much water has that structure absorbed meanwhile??? Perhaps the next two units that are presently without lids will see their weather sealing happen sooner but I suspect not. I am very glad I am not buying any of these as they are I think available under some sort of shared ownership too.

 

To those suffering and caring, my best wishes. To everyone else I will borrow Baz’s carpes  and diems.

I haven't seen a laptop keyboard that said "enter" for nearly a decade. Having said that, HP is unusual in not using the normally recognised symbol

Morning from a cold Surrey. Took some time to scrape the ice off the red car despite it being the best of the three cars to defrost.

The RHTT service was running an hour later this morning so enough light to go and photo it.

Good morning everyone 

 

It’s another frosty start to the day here, the Sainsbury’s Grand Prix Will shortly be undertaken and I’ll drop Sheila off at the hairdressers as we pass. This afternoon will be spent making black velvet cakes for tomorrow, these are pretty much the same as red velvet cakes, but with black food colouring instead of red, the kids seem to like them! Time to defrost the car, but no scraping for me, I pour hot (from the hot tap not boiling water from the kettle) water, this not only clears the frost but the condensation on the inside too!

Morning All

Brass monkey weather outside I found something in the kitchen cupboard the slapped #rse left that stunk to high heaven, it's laying in the back garden.

managed to get back on track yesterday with the boiler at the flat as British Gas is impossible to engage in conversation there idiot robot system kept cutting me off

I called a pay through the nose local company and got a booking for tomorrow afternoon, yesterdays visit to the flat I was invited up to the residence lounge for morning

coffee where they all meet every Monday and met about 15 of them one of them is very charming single lady  , oh and the cake was nice too.
