A dull, dull day today. The day began with dense fog and ended with heavy, low overcast. It was very dark all day.

 

I had planned a lazy day in front of televised college football and after dealing with recycling the junk mail (I get mountains of it) and some general tidying up, ended up vacuuming the rug and the sofa cushions. I couldn't find the right attachment to vacuum the innards of the sofa. I searched high and low looking for it. (Usually such things are lying around somewhere.) Finally I realized that I had made a home for these appliances in a cupboard and they had been put away properly.

 

Part of me wishes I had attempted to accomplish more with my time today, but at least things are marginally less messy.

Good morning one and all

 

The motorway network behaved itself yesterday.  I left home at 6 am and with one PNB was at Portsmouth by 8.10 am, much to my surprise and that of the car park stewards.  This left some time to kill, which I spent first in McDonalds munching a bacon roll - shame! - and drinking a cuppa and then mooching round the nearby Carphone Warehouse at stuff which I do not understand and cannot afford.  When it was safe to enter the school I had breakfast, as reported by JohnDMJ.  They didn't have smiling dinner ladies in my schooldays.  The trip from the school to the bijou bungalow in Weybridge where my old friend Mary lives took a little more than an hour and the trek round the M25 afterwards was accomplished speedily.   For much of the outward run my ears enjoyed the new album "Fire and Fleet" by June Tabor and Oysterband, with some fine medieval music by Fayre Play on the return journey.

 

Q, I won't be able to keep up what you describe as gallivanting for ever so I shall make the most of it while I can.  If I said I never get tired I would be fibbing.  Somehow I manage to summon up the necessary mental and physical energy - mind over matter, I suppose -  and work on the principle that when you stop you drop, which has served my 95 year old twin aunts very well until quite recently.  I will admit that when I had the virus infection in March, April and early May it was much more difficult and a four mile round trip to the supermarket would be enough to wipe me out for the rest of the day.  It is no secret that the trip I made to and from Bridgwater in March for my aunt's funeral was difficult and unwise but my uncle was pleased to see me and that matters.

 

Today I have some TV programmes to catch up - Portillo's great Australian rail journeys and Casualty, since you ask - and a steak to cook for lunch.  I need to plan what will be next into and out of the slow cooker and do a bit more work on planning my trip to Dublin in June.  There is also the little matter of writing captions for Bylines which has got a bit behind.  Otherwise it's unspecified pottering.

Good night at the cricket club dinner last evening. Her indoors was fussed over by the players ans was rewardedwith a large bouquet of flowers.

 

Woke up very early as,for the first time ina long time I have a nagging doubt about the demo area at Warley. Could be due to my hand over but.....

 

More prep for warley to do plus some financial bits and bats to do today.

 

Pond has refilled overnight so the pump will be in use.

Ben the I want out Collie,  had other ideas,  once out the door he wanted back in... He's just crept upstairs to get SWMBO up as well.... Anyway I ordered him on down the garden,  after which he charged around chasing pigeons,  until. He did what he wanted out for... 

 

It's cold dull and very grey out there . 

 

I notice people are claiming Venice's flooding is caused by global warming...  Absolute codswallop.. 

They have a South easterly wind blowing the sea up the Adriatic. 

They have a low air pressure overhead  so not pressing the sea water down as much as normal. 

It's spring tides.. 

They live in a city slowly sinking into the mud it was built on. 

 

That same low air pressure is moving towards us 

It will be in such a position  it will have northerly winds, so piling up the north sea in our coasts.

It will  be pressing down slightly  more as it will have filled a bit. 

Spring tides will have passed

We are unlikely to have much flooding if any.. 

 

Plans for today,  see how many ground frame poles I can get in the cover of the marquee.  Do a little work on the landrover. 

 

The kettle will have boiled,  

Time for.... A Muggacoffee and I fancy a BLT..

Good morning all,

A dull start to the day here but it should stay dry with the chance of the odd sunny spell.

No chipfitting here yesterday as other things got in the way.

After obtaining bread I deciding that some paperwork, book balancing and money laundering  shifting merited attention. Also had to organise a DJ for an anniversary party next year, that involved more money depositing.

Following on from this Steve turned up and stayed for lunch so that was another couple of hours used up. 

When he went I started watching the Barbarians v Fiji game but then decided to switch over to La Rochelle v Exeter and I'm glad I did with the latter winning convincingly.  Then started to watch Clermont v Harlequins and wish I hadn't.  I gave up before the end as The Boss wanted to watch Strictly Come Prancing.

Breakfast has been offered and will shortly be accepted. After that I will visit The Shed and attempt to replace a chip. I will also attempt to lay some more track.

I do not feel the urge to use any remote butcher, preferring to see what I am buying and to understand its journey from creation to cooking. Ok, people living in remote areas or unable to get out and about may not have that option but we are guilty of killing our local traders and suppliers by our drive for everything at the lowest cost, often wrong when the cost of carriage, packaging etc is considered.

Definitely dull here but no further precipitation shows on vehicles or the ground. Widowed longs-standing friend arriving late afternoon, meanwhile bread is baking and venison (from local farmer) is marinading. Rose was waited under the watchful eye of SWMBO so we should have enough victuals for several days - we certainly do have enough cheese and spuds!
 

I see that getting to the NEC next Saturday will be a pain for all as the RMT causes disruption every Saturday until Christmas. If you can p!ss off enough of the people enough of the time... Whilst sorry that I am not going to Warley, the selfish part of me is glad that I am avoiding those issues. Parking at the NEC is a real rip-off IMHO. Next week sees some Swedish unboxing and assembly work for the eldest grandson under the watchful eye of SWMBO’s eldest clone, further drawings to detail the proposed new Sports & Social Club facilities and the run-of-the-mill trivia that consumes so much of my waking hours and then there will be the demands of Her Ladyship too.

We are leaving home early next Friday to get round the M25 as the rush hour traffic clears but before it starts clogging up again mid morning. Then we will spend an hour or so enroute linesiding at or around Banbury before heading to unload at NEC just after mid day. That will then give us plenty of time to get to the hotel check in and then check out the local hostelries.

It would be good to lineside the Polar Express steam trips out of Moro Street but don't fancy driving into Brum on a Friday afternoon.

 

An overcast morning here. Bene in the shed before sunrise to have another look at the brass loco that keeps shorting. Motor disconnected from the sound decoder. No shorting, so will temporarily hook up another motor to see how that works.

 

Blue Steel now fitted into the Victor bomb bay and final lining of the cockpit canopy underway.

Morning each. Dull and damp but not actually raining in North Swampshire this morning. Yesterday's 'how long a lead up to Christmas can you stand' activities weren't too painful and I was saved from getting involved in the contest for the world's biggest rugby scrum at the actual switch on of the lights because it was too much for Dad and I had to sit it out with him. Mind you, I did have an exceptionally good bacon butty. Unfortunately my plan to get some mod***ing done whilst avoiding the excitement of strictly jump up and down to music and some other televisual pig dribble came to naught when I dozed off on the sofa - bu**er!

 

We've got friends coming for lunch tomorrow so there's preparation to begin made today and undoubtedly there will be more picture hanging and stuff to do but first some porridge.

No worry of that. He is really good. Replacement will ship Monday  (not through hermes) while the old order is still in transit and he's put in a claim for the wasted food. 

 

Morning all from the boring borough. Still feel like death. Spent most of the night coughing up my lungs. Now my ribs hurt. Quiet day planned apart from a couple of small items. First is to get the thermostat in the greenhouse working again. SWMBO has moved her wormery in for the winter and they prefer temps of 7c and above. The second is to check the heat in the kitchen as the heat controlled fan seems to be stuck on regardless of the radiator's ambient temp. 

 

That is all. Enjoy the day.

Morning, blazing sunshine after a frost earlier, managed a bit of fiddling with tiny bits of plastic(those ratio ground signal kits are way too small for my huge mitts) whilst watching some eurorugby(I too decided the Baa-baas was not my cup of tea GDB). Leicester in their first outing in the second tier comp managed a win, however one swallow and all that, away in Caaaaaaaaaaardiff next week will be an indicator of whether we are going to be competitive or not.

Might go out with the camera later, have a fun Sunday.

Morning.  Well it is as I begin to type.

 

Mrs NHN off to kill rubber targets up trees with the latest additions to her armoury, who would have thought a bow and arrow could be so techy and complimocated.

 

Will have to fix some lunch then I have a one of those things to fit a decoder to, then play test it while supposedly ballasting track. Might try to sneak a photo in later, the awl doesn't hurt as much as the carbon fibre arrows.

Good afternoon everyone 

 

Late up this morning, we must have needed the rest. A dull wet day here in the northwest of England. I'm currently sat in the workshop, where I've git a cracking WiFi signal.

 

On Friday, James handed me a couple of stainless steel back plates for some High end watches (he works in the repair department), apparently they've come out of the beyond repair box. Anyway, I've spent the last hour or so straightening them and I've got them as straight as I can get them, all he has to do now is polish them up, but I'll leave that with him.

 

Not a lot else planned for the day, apart from make the half dozen MERG kits I found in the workshop.

Well, it started  OK with a nice breakfast but after that things went a bit downhill. 

Went to The Shed (which is actually downhill as the garden is about 4 feet lower than the ground floor of the house.)

Switched on controller and my PA­²  power pack refused to come to life. Cue swearing. This has happened before when The Shed is cold. Turned up heating and waited, eventually it came on.

Decided to replace the chip in the H2.

Removed brake rigging from tender. Removed one set of wheels. Removed stupid little connector plug from tender without breaking. So far so good. Got tender body off OK. Tried to remove chip. It didn't want to come off. After applying a bit more force it did but I bent 2 of the 21 pins in the process. More swearing. Attempted to straighten pins. Thought I had. Tried to fit new chip. Didn't want to go on. Now got 3 bent pins. Swearing. More attempts at straightening  pins and fitting chip made (with swearing)and eventually with a lot of force it went on. This'll never ######g work said I.  Replaced tender body etc anyway and everything went back together without any more damage. 

Put H2 on programming track to test and lo and behold there was life after awl. Then put on test track and it runs as sweetly as anything.

I'd originally fitted a Bachmann 36-557 decoder and it ran like absolute carp. Now fitted with a Lenz Silver21+.   First time I've tried Lenz although I've been advised to many times before but it won't be the last.

Tea break now and the day is looking a bit better.
