RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2019 A bit grey here at present but, thankfully, dry and forecast to stay that way until tomorrow. To accompany the morning muggocoffee came the managerial announcement that restoring the house to normality (or what passes for such chez nous ) after the decorative facelift will begin shortly. If experience is any guide, this will involve a lot of me holding pictures and things in different places while SWMBO assesses the situation before I install the necessary suspension equipment. Once everything is in place, there will then be a total reassessment that will mean a number of changes. Once this procedure is complete we are going to a friend's for lunch, doing some shopping and then it's time for Christmas to begin with the switching on of the town's festive lights, at which I am apparently not to voice any opinion on the appropriateness or mention that there is still over 10% of the year to go before the actual holiday is upon us. There is a bright spot on the event horizon, though. Apparently this evening's edition of strictly go prancing is not to be missed so SWMBO and friend will be glued to the haunted fish tank and I may well be able to sneak off workshopwards for an hour or so. On that upbeat note, have a good day folks. Dave 10

RMweb Gold Popular Post Happy Hippo Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2019 The spares to repair the tumble drier that were expected today will now arrive on Monday, which is slightly annoying as I have the blasted machine stripped in the kitchen. Had I realised the wait would be a few days, I'd have put the covers back on to keep it tidy. this is after many years of failing to tidy up and finding that if you put tools away immediately after use, you can find them again! The same goes for always putting rechargeable batteries on charge after the tool they are attached to has been used. Yes, before somebody gets it in, it means my batteries are on permanent trickle charge! Yesterday, the return from Gogledd of the Obergrumpenfuhrer rather upset my idea of a perfect day, although I did manage to get out into the workshop to make a clicker anvil extension for a friend whose clicker anvil was too short. For those not into toxophily, the clicker is a sprung device that allows the bowman to repeat pulls of the bowstring to the same tension. I had envisaged using the lathe to turn up a new one, but in the end was able to make an extension sleeve out of some K&S brass tube. The advantage being that it can be removed if required and the original anvil has not been changed in any way. I was so tempted to attach a cat bell so that when the clicker struck the anvil, the bell would ring! 23

Rather grey and overcast but predicted to stay dry. 45 minutes ago, Tony_S said: Morning all. I don’t plan to do much today. We will visit MiL tomorrow. Tony Tony, you might consider walking over to the mini exhibition in the Baptist church at Kennington Avenue. I intend to get there from about 12 to 1. Its only a short walk from your house. RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2019 Good moaning (just) from a damp Chsrente where a strange yellow object has been sighted in a gap in the clouds. Much has been done. Joan had to be at the Gendarmarie at 09.00. The charming Madame Garondaud was very nice and efficient, after that it was off to the bank to inform them of events. That took a bit longer, and much more paper, however we were back home by 10.15. Various other tasks have now been done. the major one is to amend my ferry booking and it now looks as if I may be in the UK on the 28th of this month. Beth is awaiting her test results and after lunch we are off to see her. Joan is going home tomorrow, she is incredibly well organised and doing very well. I've done things like turning the water and electricity off at their house so it's now winterised. I hope that Rick and Sharron an of course Debs are well. Regards to all. Popular Post AndrewC
Good moaning from the boring borough. No sleep until around 04:00 this morning. Got up at 10:30. Blergh. This man flu has really taken hold. Feel like slightly microwaved death. Not good news with George the cat. The first procedure was only partly successful and he may have to go through it again as many as 3 times. It is hard on him and no guarantee it won’t reoccur. Difficult decision in the coming days I think. P1ssed off at Hermes. Parcel was scheduled for delivery on Thursday. Nothing. Got the text yesterday. Arriving between 16:00-20:00. Nothing delivered. Text late last night saying unable to deliver. Will deliver next working day. It was perishable so will be rejected and I’ve already contacted the butcher for replacement. £130 worth of meat rotting in a van somewhere. Sh1tgibbons!!! today I will mostly be doing nothing. edit: forking autocorrupt Edited November 16, 2019 by AndrewC 2

RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2019 Just afternoon awl, I discovered we needed a bread run, a quantity of pork was also bought, as pork is going to go Up in price as China's pigs have been wiped out by swine fever. I did the shopping first as a slow warm up of my body before... The last 4 sandbags were put in place, the end covers also, a little difficult as, as you attached each bit and did up the zipper, the next one was harder to pull into place. In doing so I discovered you are supposed to insert the ground frame bars through canvas tubes at the bottom of each cover ( that's not in the destructions) . Trouble is I have sandbags in the way. I think I can cut a slot to put the tube in further down. There are 16, 20kg bags of sand in place, so 320kg to hold it Down.. Added to this 3 1/2 sides are below the fence / shed height. just the half and the top 4 ft of the peak are exposed to wind. I think I might hang the mast from the framework, to save dragging it out every time I want to work on the boat. SWMBOs RAF pension claim form has now been filled in and will shortly wing it's way to Glasgow. Clothing for her, has now been selected for the wedding, a bath will be followed by departure, shortly after.. Time to get wet. 16

We have some for use on Thameslink GW Worms but the lack of space made it almost impossible to use them. Just bern chatting to someone who works for a private revenue protection company who knows our services. After my other half said that there hadn't been any on board ticket inspections for months, he going to arrange some! Very interesting conversation with him and backs up a lot of our views on Gate line tickets barriers.
JohnDMJ
Afternoon all, After an early (for a Saturday) start, met with ChrisF for a very satisfactory full breakfast at the Admiral Lord Nelson School before the opening of the Portsmouth Model somethingorother Exhibition. Given that there are building works in progress around the school, parking on site was restricted so I thought it prudent to get there early! Found plenty of parking spaces! Good show with two exhibits using the Faller car system in N! Good, balanced mix of demonstrations and traders too. Next Saturday it's the 05:00 off my local station to get to the NEC for some minor event I've heard rumoured to be taking place. Southern to Southampton then Cross Country to the NEC then back via Southampton later. Just waiting now for the landscaper who lives across the road to come and see what needs clearing from my front and back gardens; expecting a sharp intake of breath on his part as he tells me it'll be ...; sorry, did I hear you right; you said HOW MUCH??!! RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted November 16, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 16, 2019 Afternoon all, And what dreary weather - seems like winter without the snow and rain. Living up to his promise of 'see you at 8 on Saturday morning' my labourer yet again failed to materialise or even arrive, knowing him he'll probably turn up next Saturday however Mrs Stationmaster is no more into bricklaying than she is into visiting model railway shows at the NEC so he'll have got up early for nothing ... tehehe. Sorting of ephemera continues and remains occasionally fascinating. I see from my notes of the Crossrail Working Group meeting that I attended in April 1993 - on our Wedding anniversary as it happens - that the planned commencement of Crossrail trains to Reading this December means that they will be running 21 years and 3 months late. However far worse than that late running is the fact that in the intervening 21 years they have also transmogrified from quite acceptable originally intended Class 341 units into the near totally unacceptable, and slower, Class 345 excuses for a train. Much more pleasurably I've not only found the paper (and also the accompanying viewfoils, no fancy gimmickry back then) which I gave at a freight heavy haul symposium at the IMech back in the first half of the 1990s - still actually sounds quite sensible and was interestingly prophetic in some respects. Thus far nothing incriminating has come to light. Enjoy the rest of your day. 20

Jamie Jamie, Does this mean lunch? If so, don't forget the rucksack. Richard, I think the correct word should be Obergrumpenführerin, with umlaut. In other news, up a bit late for Diocesan Synod with the journey complicated by both my local lines closed for engineering work. Scraped in at the opering bell. Spoke in one of the debates, the conservative evangelical wing were aiming for a power grab: unsurprisingly I was opposed; and they lost. Need to check the timetable for next Saturday! All this German reminds me I need to contact Staffelfuhrer Hunt about going to the Warley show next weekend. 9 6
