Sun disappeared so the planned start ot extend the patio hasn't occurred. However have been in shed and started fitting a Loksound decoder to 'Lapford'.

 

However feeling Thirsty so will be off to trigger beer o'clock soon.

Firstly then saut do mouton - of which the everyday French translation seems to be sheeps leap as identified by Aditi and - so i've been told in the past by SNCF colleagues - is effectively the French equivalent of the British term (and game of) leapfrog.  In SNCF vernacular usage the term is used to describe a flying junction - so it could indeed involve a flyover although of course equally it could involve an underpass.

Now to the Baz proposal for a meet of ERs - and yes his latest post describes to me exactly what I expected it to involve.  Basically, and literally, a get together of us lot (to the extent that we can or can't get there) for a natter and so on.  A very different sort of affair from the organised RMweb days which AY used to arrange or the SWAG event  because it would be a get-together and not some sort of mini-exhibition.  So as Debs has seconded Baz's more detailed proposal I will duly 3rd it.   I think Derby is probably a reasonable place for it as it is fairly central be you getting there by road, rail, or even by air via East Midlands Airport.   I think the big problem with various preservation etc sites would be cost - we can for example hire facilities at various of them including the NRM but the cost is well into 3 figures so it would need a lot more organising plus firm commitment - Baz's proposal makes much more sense in that respect.

 

In the meanwhile enjoy the rest of your day and trusting too that Ozex's relatives back home are well clear of the current fire problems

My inclination would be to day trip an ER meet, which would mean an 8pm departure from Derby.

I have managed to repair a couple of boards from items over the years where an SMD had lifted from a board but it was an “it is broken, so I may as well try a repair” situation. 
However a few years ago I was at an exhibition and watched a demonstrator assembling a board with some SMD components. I thought, yes I could do that. However when I asked what temperature he had the iron set too, all he replied was “go on a course” and waved at some leaflets. I thought to myself that he was a miserable git and didn’t bother to renew my subscription to the organisation he was demonstrating for.

I have only ever been to the railway station at Derby, never out into the real world. Always in winter on my way to somewhere else. This must have been in the late 1970s. We got a car in 1982.

You won't recognise the station now. Its been rebuilt and much tidier than it was back then

190 miles ish...3.5 hours from home to derby by car ( on a good trip) .. £ 60 is petrol. 

Train £75 booking ahead,  4 hours plus, 2 or 3 changes of train.  Then I'd have to get to the station 10 miles away.. 

Flying  3.5 hours plus via Edinburgh or Amsterdam!!!  £ 275 minimum!!! 

Bus 6hours 20 minutes with. 3 changes.. 

 

Some thought will have to go into this if I were to try to make it.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. A bit of good news, double yellow lines are going in in front of my house, why is it good news? I live on a corner and cars parked close to or even across my drive are a right pain in the @r$e. The lines are only going to extend 10 metres from the corner but will cover the front of my property.

So they are changing it from Ill Advised to park within 30ft of the corner and you might get done.  To illegal  to park there..

ChrisF and I have partaken of a group (at least 30 travellers!) holiday to snowier climes almost every year since 2009. In that time, we have spent the New Year part in Rapperswil at least three times. The hotel used there has, in its restaurant, a Japanese-staffed Sushi bar. Of the three groups (not necessarily 90 travellers as there are several 'regulars' [including ChrisF and myself]), I am the only person to have sampled the Sushi bar and have achieved this on all 3 occasions! Please pardon the pun, I'm hooked!

 

Squidgy shell fish, on the other hand, does not appeal; I have had Chinese dishes containing oysters but, based on that experience, do not generally want to try other bi-valve or single shell molluscs, although I used to enjoy scallops! It's the texture sensation that puts me off.

 

If we were all the same, wouldn't life be boring?!
