Wasn't a bad pub but they pulled it down some years ago much like most other pubs in that part of town. Even the Wetherspoons opposite West Croydon station has gone. I'll see No place and raise you No Name in Colorado. Apparently two feuding families couldn't agree on a name so the powers that be called it No Name and put it on the map. I cycled through it 2 days after my Avatar photo was taken. It would be a good place for a meet as a railway line runs along the other side of the river with trains pulled by big yellow things.. At present that weekend is free although it is the BH weekend with the Friday being the BH. Something painted over(?) for sure, but what? Film companies are renowned for efforts such as this but as this was shot in the UK(?) there wasn't much effort here. Even spaghetti Westerns usually had a balloon funnel or a snow plough, at least! Brian. 9 5
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) As we seem to have started talking foreign je suis hors combat and so is ma nouvelle locomotive. Visited Le Cabanon and fitted a decoder. Ran it in forwards for 10 minutes to start with and it went fine. Put in in reverse and it was OK for a couple of minutes and then it stopped dead. Wheels seem locked but motor still whirring so a return to supplier is called for. Whilst bending over the layout something went in my back and I can now hardly move and in a fair bit of pain. Ibuprofen and Tramadol have been deployed. Off-Piste P!ssed I am. Edited November 11, 2019 by grandadbob
RMweb Gold The Stationmaster Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 11, 2019 Now a little translation test from French to English - with a difference because we are talking railway terminology and not literal translation. So what is the British railway terminology equivalent of the SNCF term 'saut du mouton'? (Oh a small clue, the answer has nothing to do with the transportation of livestock.)

The above shot pretty much 5+ hours and all other "projects' were shelved as I repaired to the living room for dinner and a glass bottle of wine! You've neglected to mention the stage whereupon Mrs I.A. declares that she doesn't like the DIFFERENT product. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 11, 2019 Home. What a journey that was, sur le ferry - the sea is full of trenches, and we bumped over every one of them. Seas reaching over the bridge at one point, and a sea of vomit inside.....bleuch. I was more than a bit queasy, and I am sort of acclimatised. Mrs NHN, who generally has a cast iron constitution, lost her lunch, as did many others.

The Obergrumpenfuhrer will be accompanying me to the Borders MRC Christmas lunch as I made the mistake of showing her the menu choices. "Oh you can take partners or spouses can you? It's a nice menu, I think I'll join you. It will be nice to meet some of your friends." Well she's right about the first two! I suppose it's revenge for me gatecrashing a Guiding training she is involved with next weekend. As an advisor, I need a higher level of child protection training than occasional helpers, so have to get the relevant boxes ticked on my qualification card. She ought to be grateful, as my presence got her out of having to present the training: Something about nepotism etc! I think taking a very low profile and keeping my mouth firmly shut may be tactically astute. 13 2 4

She approved as it was one of those we considered at the first selection, actually is the nicer product in the end also, which is a plus EDIT: "party to the selection" is actually incorrect, she WAS wholly responsible for the choice, then of course that should be no surprise to any ER who has been involved (if only in spirit) in selection of home furnishing! RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 11, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. An ER's get together? How about making it at a preserved railway? The GCR appears to be the ideal venue, centrally located and easily accessed. Has anyone got any thoughts on this? Someone did suggest the NRM, thats also a possibility.

The GCR is close to the UK’s centre of population Phil but I’m not sure what facilities it would have to host such a gathering, having never been there myself. I wonder what accommodation could be found nearby as those making a long journey to put faces to names may wish that it includes an overnight option. It would have to be arranged around the GCR’s events too. 11 3

With us only being a couple of hundred metres from the sea, I know just how much the wind has been blowing today. The wind seems as strong as ever just now, and the rain is still arriving in very heavy squalls. Hopefully it will abate by about lunchtime tomorrow. The weather seems to have kept people away from our Model Club evening tonight, so numbers were low. I did manage to do some productive stuff by fixing an old non-running Hornby 25, and also made a start on converting our DC Thomas the Tank layout to a switchable DC/DCC one. Some other donated stock was briefly tested and has come home with me for servicing prior to going onto our sales stand at the Workington show this coming weekend. 19 1 1
tigerburnie
Evening, with weather far from conducive to outside activities I made myself scarce from the auld wifies gathering in our living room and adjourned to TOSH where some scattering of adhesives and green synthetic grass along with the movement of things reminiscent of my childhood took place along parallel bits of metal...…………………...most enjoyable(I think I might have snuck that bit of muddling under the wire...…………….) RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted November 11, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) Good evening everyone Another day and a couple more wash loads done today, apparently there’s more to do tomorrow, where the bl00dy does she get it all from, there’s only 2 of us here now! Anyway, along with the washing I’ve also managed to complete a few more MERG kits, a servo module that can drive 4 servos at the same time and 6 input/output modules. These can be either depending upon how they are configured. They work in pairs and each module can control either have 8 inputs switches, output from ToTi, or outputs, servos, relays, LEDs etc. These are very small, double sided and use SMD (surface mounted device) components. Below are a couple of photos of the I/P O/P module, I did have to use a magnifier to make sure all the parts were fitted correctly. Goodnight all.
