the tests they ran today showed I've got a degenerative condition which will mean I'll need a cornea transplant in about 10 years as my vision will become worse over time.

My brother in law had to have both his cornea replaced.

Having been placed on the waiting  list, it happened very quickly and suddenly on a Sunday evening!

This story involves a relic that I've been aware of all my life. In fact it was there through all my father's life.

The scow broke away on the Niagara river but the men on it managed to scuttle it just before it would have gone over the Falls.  They were rescued the next day.

Someone in my family was involved in the rescue but they are never mentioned.

It has spent over 100 years behind one of the powerhouses but last week there was enough weather to shift it.  It always looked intact from the shore; I never realized that only one side was left.

There seems to be a mobile phone app for almost everything but I haven't found the one that does soldering yet. Can anybody point me in the right direction?  :scratchhead:

That would be a HOT app:)

Thoughts with John especially but not forgetting a few others of the clan who need them!

For the benefit of GDB, Screwfix sells a product by Wago that allows you to easily join wires without soldering. This has the added advantage that joints can be made, disconnected and made again as your layout progresses. Although the cost per unit at Screwfix is fairly high, there are plenty pf suppliers on Ebay who offer the same product for less. Screwfix page:

Picture of such devices below - these two are three wire version that I use, the one on the left shows the levers up (clamps open) and the right is when closed (connection made). I tend to use these with one hole dedicated to the "line in", another to the "line out" and the third to the track dropper(s).

I use these for connecting droppers to bus wire but once joined, that's it.

Doesn't help with soldering droppers to track though which is where I sometimes, not always, have problems.

At least the dropper to rail connection is done from above so the dome should not be subjected to falling blobs of hotness :D

I used the scotch locks too, but instead of soldering to the track and melting adjacent sleepers, I soldered the droppers to the rail connectors from peco(Hornby ones wont solder). The droppers are a nice tight fit to the track and run perfectly well.
