Brian, I understand completely. The old US O gauge stuff is very collectible here. At the local train shows in Portland (nothing like what I imagine most UK exhibitions to be) there are always traders with lots of musty old US O gauge, some of it tinplate. I actually saw some boxed Hornby tinplate at one stall. It might be worth attending a show to meet up with traders to see if they would be willing to take if off your hands when the time is right. I'm sure they have similar shows in the Seattle metro area, though I'm not sure whether the trip to Seattle is worth it to you. I expect that the traders I see in Portland would also attend shows in Seattle. The books are a different story. I have no suggestion there. 16 1

It's not morbid, but practical. When I had my prostate cancer I took steps to list everything I had. Anyone clearing my stuff up will have something to go on. Listing has a dual benefit - it's proof for the insurers what's there. Make that a triple benefit - finding something which you know you've got but can't find. Mind you, I often do that anyway. We also renewed our wills, which we hadn't done since before our son was born. Sandy didn;t like that, but I insisted. Now I'm very glad we did. And all this is to assist the survivors. It could well have been Sandy clearing up my stuff. Mine's all boxed and labelled in project boxes. 17 1

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) A very early morning for me as went to bed well before 9pm, and now wide awake. Yesterday was a busy one after helping my other half take clothes to the charity shop, then weekly food shop before getting home nad doing a bit more rubble clearance at the back of the garden. Then I finally finished cutting the weight in a brass loco to make space for the speaker and decoder. That loco is now reassembled and just requires final testing to make sure the nano LED is working in the headlight then its ready for handing back to the owner. I also repaired numerous steps on my HO scale USA freightcars - fiddly but worth doing. I am way behind sorting my digital photos out this year so I have being doing a bit of catch up and came across this photo taken on my last visit to the pub that ChrisF is intending to visit in Croydon. Photo taken back in July - the bar area is much deeper than it first appears in this photo. Edited November 4, 2019 by roundhouse 21
RMweb Premium Popular Post BR60103 Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 Went to railway show today with Dayle. Saw a number of club members and other old acquaintances. Asked my favorite importer for a Hornby NEM pocket and he had one! In a packet with a TL coupler with no hook. Picked up a few small building kits. I'm now trying to replace the little wire spring behind the head of a Kadee coupler. I have an agreement with one of the club members to dispose of the railway bits of the estate of whoever goes first.
Popular Post Robert
Morning All, Weather wise, it is somewhat blustery and autumnal, but it is one of those mornings where you don't really know whether it is warm or cold. The weekend was quiet - the weather wasn't really conducive to doing anything much! Time for a coffee - Have a good day everyone... 18
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all In a day or two, or maybe an hour or two, I will see the funny side of breakfast yesterday morning. As all the admins were ill I said that I would look after things. I arrived in good time, ordered my breakfast and sat, munched and waited. Then the excuses started to appear on my phone, except from those who could not be bothered to think of one. The most thoughtless excuse read: “I have decided not to go as no-one else is”. Excuse me? Whatever else I am, I am not no-one! The person concerned is advised not to think otherwise. Later came an apology. On the bright side, despite the sparse Sunday bus service I was home in time to hear Russell T Davies on Desert Island Discs. As a bonus I slobbed out in the afternoon to watch War Horse yet again, tissues at the ready. Roundhouse, many thanks for posting the photo of the Oval Tavern. Ahead of my pilgrimage on Thursday I have printed out a Google map showing its location in relation to East Croydon station. I’m looking forward to seeing Trio Dhoore again and have what I believe is the second ticket – I was able to respond rapidly when the announcement of the gig came through on Facebook. There seems to be a bit of a backlash against social media at the moment, with much talk that social media causes mental health issues and very little hard evidence to back up that assertion. I put it down to scaremongering but there is enough of it about to have alarmed the normally level-headed Harry. Mental health issues have an infinite range of causes and an equally infinite range of victims. When it comes down to it, the trouble with social media is some of the people who use it. Best wishes to all Chris

The most thoughtless excuse read: “I have decided not to go as no-one else is”. That reminds me of a dinner commitment I made with colleagues from out of town. I slogged through awful traffic and found our reserved table at a nice (slightly upmarket but not at all stuffy), casual suburban Italian restaurant. And sat. I ordered a glass of wine and ate bread (with oil). And sat. The restaurant was busy and the wait staff kept looking at me and the empty seats around me, and asking "would I be ordering?" Through a bunch of telephonic back and forth, I eventually learned that my colleagues' meeting had run long and they had decamped to a pub nearer the client, abandoning the reservation. Of course they asked if I wanted to join them. At that point I didn't want to deal with more traffic and let the restaurant have their large table back (small tables had been slid together) and at that point feeling obliged to order something, had a nice meal by myself before heading home. EDIT I did send them a picture to show them what they were missing. Edited November 4, 2019 by Ozexpatriate 3
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 Mooring Awl, Inner Temple Hare, 1491/931 3.5 hours + several bits of sleep on the Sofa.. not good, back playing up again.. It's intended to offer my layout to the Swindon and Cricklade railway, since it 's of a station on the MSWJR (or will be when complete). everything else in there to the MRC. However since both my parents are still alive, I hope I have a better than even chance of living another 25 years.. SWMBO has a vast amount of art stuff and Weaving stuff, the weaving stuff would go to her weaving group, her art stuff I don't know but at least some could get diverted to something in the same shed.. As for Naked Sheep we have a few round here, the last delivery was 7 fleeces some from sheep belonging to Jacob.. others from sheep who's heritage is from various outer isles of the UK. Now they have all been washed (in a big dustbin outside), they are permitted inside.. Some years ago we members of the Yeoman and Kinsman sailing association did all turn up at the booked pub (down St Neots way)for our committee meeting and dinner..... To find the pub had closed.... luckily we found another a few hundred yards away that could take us.. The squealing from fan belts has gone, I guess they have bedded in, however the emission system light came on as I drove in here.... Time to wander down to the lab and get started on the excess of work.. 5
RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 Morni g all from a place where it isn't rai ung for a change. We had a good day yesterday. The usual visit to the market, and coffe with friends first. Then mushrooms on maize bread toast. Beth then spent the afternoon in the kitchen and produced 2 batches of rather nice sausage rolls. I headed for the log shed and reduced large parts of an ash tree to logs that will dry out for at least another year. A certain electric chain saw did sterling work. In the evening it was round to some friends for a very nuce meal and copious amounts of local red liquid produce. It's the first time we've been there since Beth brome her leg and long discussions were had as to what transport to use and how to negotiate the 3 steps. In the end the wheelchair was chosen and the crutches were taken in case manouvering was needed. A good time was had. Today it's off to the Dr's this morning. I'll probably have a trip to a builders merchant this afternoon. Then a friend is bringing a pre cooked meal round to share with us. I might even make some more logs. On the subject of accumulated items. In the summer No 1 son made many sarcastic remarks about us having brought lots of rubbish over with us that he would have to sort out eventually. He mentioned the collection of various mobility aids. Every one of them has been used over the past 5 weeks and without them life would have been very difficult. RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) Ey up! Got home at 9pm last night. Weather was very wet and blustery. The wwekwnd was tiring for all sorts of reasons. Lots of questions and a major gremlin kept us on our toes. On other matters... I have an excel workbook. It has a page for locos, a page for coaches and one for wagons. An additional page has a link to a picture of each loco. The sheets also include where they are , including wagons "leant" to others. A similar workbook for my American HO stock and a spreadsheet for the O Gauge. Herself knows where to find the stock and what to do with it . I believe the lads also have a copy. Very positive thoughts to Rick and Sharron, John and Debs and to anyone else who need our support. Chris, hope you enjoyed your breakfast make sure the no shows realise it is not good to bail out of an agreed meet up with or without apologies, but in a positive way. It is why I never guarantee getting to meet ups at Warly. Off to parcel and post off some of Purley Oaks stock then..wiring to be done. Grab the day and shake it till it produces the day youwant it to be! Baz Edited November 4, 2019 by Barry O 19

No problem Mike (IIRC). It's a flattish loaf of yellowish bread with quite an open texture that actually stays soft for at least 3 days. We buy a fresh sliced loaf from an artisan baker on a Sunday morning and it lasts us for Sunday and Monday when our baguette machine isn't stocked. As the slices are quite long and a bit narrow we toast them under the grill. About 30 seconds per side. I'll try and take a photo later. It tastes lovely and we only discovered it recently. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 4, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Blue sky with some cloud here and sunshine at the moment but showers, possibly heavy, are forecast. I have been instructed to spend the day in The Shed. This is only because The Boss wants the 3rd bedroom back for Christmas, it's currently full of boxes of railway stock etc which I can't put in The Shed until I've laid and wired the track. At the rate I'm going Christmas 2020 looks a better option. Have a good one, Bob. Edited November 4, 2019 by grandadbob 6 5
RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted November 4, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 4, 2019 I have various spreadsheets for my stock. Needed not least for working out insurance amounts when completing exhibitors forms. However the most head scratching was working out a suitable value for demo at Warley as I am still not sure what locos I will be taking with me but at least I know the value of the DCC equipment, PC etc. Talking of DCC I am about to start upgrading the speakers in someone of my USA 1950's locos ready for this weekends show at Epping. Will only be two of us operating this weekend with my other half helping in the fiddleyard but luckily its a one day show. When meeting up with friends I tend to do my best to be on time but the train service often makes that tricky. I will often get an earlier train but some friends are always late with some you are lucky to see them that day and one in particular that week!! 14

John - Apologies for my poor choice of words. As others have said, it is something we all have to face at some future time. In the case of my friend he remained positive throughout his illness and although he had written a letter with brief instructions for the destination of some of the stock we had no idea how much was involved until we started opening boxes and cupboards. I took some stock to the club and came away with a substantial donation to Macmillan Cancer Care. For many years the O Gauge Guild has run an Executor & Trustee service for the sale of deceased members' stock but I understand the future of this service is under threat due to the lack of volunteers - and the 7mm Narrow Gauge Assn has also closed its second hand sales for the same reason. A couple of points that I'm sure many ERs will agree with: 1 - You will soon realise that you need more hours in the day so couldn't ever consider going back to work. 2 - Live every day to the full - you've earned that right. Enjoy your retirement, however it came. Sorry Andy, posted this just before your update so a bit of striking out applied.
