Just back from Spalding,  at least part of the squealing is the power steering belt on full lock... I will further investigate tomorrow. 

I think the numbers of people at Spalding were down,  it wasn't as crowded as usual,  too many people watching egg shaped balls or put off by the forecast weather. 

 

Arrived early at Spalding,  so got to sit inside the entrance  well before opening time,  which was just as well,  as I went very dizzy,  nauseous  and a cold sweat. This had nothing to-do with me having my picture taken with the Hornby girls wearing the sprayed on jeans ( well they were that tight it looked that way). 

The ladies on the ticket desk got quite concerned about me. but I had recovered enough to wander slowly in when 10:00 arrived.

 

After my usual wander round the second hand stalls first, 3 wagons bought,  plus a look at PD Marsh, ( for border collies)   where I went dizzy again.  It's lucky his stand has substantial steel frames for me to hold on to,  after a slight recovery, I headed for the cafe,  intending on coffee bacon roll  and pink pills... Well the man in front had a full English , and err... So did I,  by the time that was consumed either the food or pills made me feel much better. 

 

So a tour of the layouts followed,  at the Grantham layout, I asked for Barry O,  who turned out to be the man standing next to the one  I asked..  So much for my observation of name tags.. We had a good mardle ( natter)  until Barry had to take his turn on duty.. 

 

Further layouts were inspected,  I was most impressed by the show this year, especially the selection of N gauge layouts , I fear I have more improvements to do to Tiree. 

 

After another coffee  I did a tour of retail  trades,  Just collecting leaflets or catalogues except for one N track cleaning wagon.

 

Favourite  4 mm layout  Grantham. 

Favourite  2mm layout Hartley Poole... 

 

At 14:00 I decided with the bad weather forecast  it was time to leave, roads even as busy as the A17, there was a good covering of leaves being blown off the trees. 

 

I've been home an hour now,  eyelid inspection is needed 

Time to źzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz. 

 

 

Yes, yes, yes, you felt unwell, twice, you bought some wagons and spoke to some people you were stood next to, but.....

Evening all from Estuary-Land. Just been watching a couple of programs on Channel 4. One about the history of Canterbury and one about the Fosse Way. Quite interesting and not a sequine in sight. Not quite the battle of the Somme outside tonight but someones trying. Time to put the kettle on, be back later.

Good morning one and all

 

There was bad news at Wycrail yesterday.  The lady who used to make the bread pudding has moved away and there was none to be had.  It will never be the same again.  Is nothing sacred?  All did not run smoothly on Friday night either.  The drive back to the hotel after the concert was hazardous, with a potentially lethal combination of high winds and very heavy rain.  Thanks to a certain sporting fixture on Saturday which attracted abnormal interest, I thought better of sharing breakfast at ‘Spoons with lots of people who like rugby but a double bacon McMuffin at the Bourne End service area on the A41 was a poor substitute.  In my book McDonalds is handy if you need the toilet but not as a place to eat.  Oh, the shame.

 

If I were not going out for breakfast this morning with the LGBT social group I would make a point of listening to Russell T Davies on Desert Island Discs.  Consider just what he has achieved.  Breathing new life into Dr Who and creating Queer As Folk are just two of the landmarks in his career and I can’t wait to find out what he will do next.  I do admire people who push boundaries.

 

Not for the first time nor the last, the week ahead is set to be busy.  Tomorrow night sees the AGM of the Bedford Commuters Association.  I have not commuted since 1988 but being a member is quite a good way of finding out what’s going on.  I’m waiting to hear what is to be done with the mess that was made of the Midland Main Line timetable last year.  My money is on an even bigger mess.  Tuesday finds me at the LCGB meeting enjoying some nostalgic films and slides.  On Thursday I need to find the Oval Tavern in Croydon for a concert by Trio Dhoore from Ghent whose new CD, “August”, is just out.  I got my copy in July and I love it – just as well as I helped to fund it!  Friday afternoon sees another LGBT gathering in Bedford and I plan to be at Tolworth Showtrain on Saturday.  Amid all this activity I have a stack of seasonal greetings cards to write.  It will be as well for me to remember that it is more blessed to give than to receive.

Morning all from a very damp Charente.  I gather that the continent us cut off again and nany ferries are cancelled.  We had to do an emergency  bedroom chamge last night as when I helped Beth to bed we discovered a drip drip drip of a liquid kind onto her bed. Not serious but not good.  However We got things sorted.  

 

Nursey has just ben. Today it was Marie who in a Sunday always has a coffee with us.  She also had some malt loaf and I'd even remembered  to print out the recipe (suitably edited) for her.  She's going to bake one for her Anglophile son at Christmas.  

 

Anyway We are off to the market this morni g and then out at some friends  for a meal tonight. 

 

Regards to all and hope that Sharon and Rick are OK and that Shielas eye is doing well.

' morning all from red dragon land.

 

Interesting day, yesterday.  It was raining when I got up but by the time we left for West Shore it was sunny...

but it was quite murky when we hit the coast road to Llandudno so we were not surprised to see the public carpark empty and barely a soul walking the dog along the beach.  After an early lunch and chat, the brave few that turned up decided running trains was pointless and we all left.

 

Ray and I took a diversion home via the railway  at Betws-y-coed.  I had a Royal Wedding London Transport ticket for the museum (donated by an acquaintance) and Ray was hoping to give the steam loco a clean in advance of this morning's run, expecting the diesel to be in use because of morning's wet weather.  No, the steamer was running.  But...after a coffee...I had an unplanned driving assessment...Delighted to say, I am now a passed steam driver and able to help Ray out when it get's busy.  I took two more passenger trains round - in the wet... So, all in all a much better day than expected! 

 

Weather looks ok for today.
