Afternoon all,

 

Where did the last couple of  days go - see below.  And a belatedly happy birthday to Dom plus it's good to hear that ChrisF will not be letting our share of the Wycrail bread pudding go to waste - I wonder if they sell any at the café in the RBH?  Talking of the latter establishment herself is well underway with the flushing juice so no doubt the way will be clear for the process at 10.00 tomorrow, I wonder if parking there will be any easier on a Saturday?

 

As last year we didn't 'do' halloween this year and instead maintained a wholly respected 'blackout' of the porch and front path lights but there were hordes of the little (and not so little) s*ds chasing about although I have to say the somewhat older girls taking their fashion cue from St Trinians were missed at our front door.  However I had done them all a good turn by a major attack on the oak tree in the front garden which after my 'ministrations' ceased to prevent the light from the adjacent lamp post shining on the  pavement.  Tackling the other side of it - in our garden - is going to be a much bigger job when I get to it.  And while I was out there hard at work I got the chance to way at the A321 containing the Good Doctor as it passed overhead enroute from Tegel to LHR, her excuse for not waving back was that she was in an aisle seat. 

 

Collecting her from the station at 17.35 really brought home how halloween works round here - cars unloading children here there and everywhere.  Goodness only knows where they come from but if they're too idle to walk I'm glad we're not joining in any more.  Daftest site of the lot - a labrador with angel's wings.

 

And more amusement from the lad who has now got a revised 'organigram' (we used to call them organisation charts) which has added to his direct line of report y to his boss in Geneva 'dotted lines' of responsibility to a VP based in Spain and another based in Graz.  Does this mean he will now be having a round of 'round Europe' seasonal events to attend I wonder (apart from the already booked ones in Camberley and Geneva) suggests the company he works for in the field of testing etc has rather different ideas from The Q's employer.

Rear Drum brakes rebuilt,  new sensors and just about every thing... 

Oh and the starter motor failed this morning... 

I'll. See if it's any good tomorrow,  as I've decided to go to spalding then. 

 

MRC tonight,  but by landrover.. SWMBO will Take the car to her art group.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Been clearing out some more old magazines this afternoon but the pile seems to be growing bigger rather than reducing. Certain titles I will be keeping but many will go for recycling. Time to prepare dinner take a quick walk to the chippy, be back later.

So plan B on the stable for the nativity.  The LED strip doesn't provide as many Lumens, but then it won't burn down the church.  I was surprised how much heat was generated by a 12V, 10W halogen bulb.

Plate glass cleaned for All Souls' tea lights, tick.  Washing the glass bowls to put the tea lights into, that is a Sunday morning job.

Charity accounts, that is the next job.

Evening all from La wet France. The Maritime bit is certainly in play.  I've had a day out trainspotting or an hour and a quarter. Beth was goi g out to a friends  to p,ay board games so I'd arranged to pick my mate up.  Then after sleepi g in this mor i g and having to rush to open up for the nurse and the builder, I was informed that he was short of 2.4m of mosaic for the wall divider round the en suite. As I was involved in the purchase of these there was no point making a song and dance..

 

Anyway Beth was dropped off, I picked up Andy and off we set to Angouleme.  The first big shed didn't stock the item but Andy knew a quick way to the next big shed and miracke of miracles they had just enough in stock.  We then sat on the station and had some lunch, kindly provided by Andy's wife  before setti g off back. I even managed to pick Beth up on time.  Not a lot of trains due to the bank holiday  but well worthwhile.

I think the scholars have established the event was in the summer of 4BC, when candles would have been expensive for our shepherds.   Probably just brands from the fire!   However, in 2019, my church holds carol services during which the lights are dimmed.  I needed to provide a small amount of illumination in my stable and yes I've used warm white.  I actually have rolls of both warm white and daylight LEDs.

Took the SPTs to Cosford and showed them some aeroplanes that granddad had flown but they were far more interested in having a go at flying a drone. Also carefully examined the Sea Skua but nothing on the fins saying 'Baz woz ere' or similar. I did toy with the idea of adding a suitable inscription in felt pen but one of the guards  guides was giving me suspicious looks so I decided against it.

 

Busy day tomorrow - as soon as the rugby ends I'm off toot sweet to Derby for a Midland Railway Society committee meeting then back for pizza with the SPTs as it's their last evening with us.

Evening all, so the hair was cut and the bushy eyebrows trimmed, so SWMBO will no doubt be happy...…….ish, I then spent most of the dark and wet afternoon in the old summer house playing trains...………..er I mean attempting some serious muddling. Fire lit and a large single malt is bringing about some serious chance of some eyelid inspection.

Well sort of,  near the end of MRC time I manage to. Knock over a yogurt pot half full of  PVA,  polyfilla,  grey brown paint, mix.  Could it land on the apron I wear.. Of course not,  all over my trousers,  so that was sponged off as best I could.  And the trousers are now getting wet in the washing machine before it sets... 

A new prospective member at the club seems a nice guy.. 

 

Untraceable muddling tokens were extracted from a hole in a wall on the way to the MRC,  some others are also attending Spalding one day this weekend, 

 

SWMBO is not happy, seemingly the fan belt is squealing... I'll check tomorrow..

Good evening everyone 

 

This morning’s shopping expedition was uneventful, despite there being quite a lot of kids still off school and a higher than usual quota of cockwombles on the roads. When I got back home Ava had already been dropped off, so it was pack away all the shopping and then make a muggertea before we both finished making the fruit tea cake. It was ready to come out of the oven just as we're finishing off dinner, so Ava and I had a slice whilst it was still hot. 

 

Whilst we were waiting to start dinner Ava had a little nap, but then she was up early as her dentist appointment was for 7:30 this morning and she had to walk there, so they set off from home at around 7 o’clock! The dentist was very pleased with how things have gone, but he does think that the nerve my be dead, if that is the case then the any up and coming work shouldn’t hurt. She will have her temporary brace removed on the 12 November then hoping to push the tooth in a little bit more and also straighten it too!

 

Tonight we’re having an early night ourselves as we’ll be up about 6 o’clock for Sheila’s operation. Sheila is absolutely bricking it, she hates anything being done to her eyes and the fact that she’s awake whilst the procedure is done, doesn’t help at all.

Good morning all,

Dry at the moment but a very wet and windy morning is forecast with the chance of gales in some areas.

Up early as I need to nip out for some fresh bread, bacon sarnies for the use of which will be consumed whilst rugby watching.

Warmed up for the big match by watching Quins unfortunately getting pasted 40-22 at Northampton past night. Saints are looking rather good at the moment having won their first 3 matches.

Hoping for a major success by the English lads today, if they play as well as they did last week I can't see South Africa beating them but in rugby anything can happen. We've made the final 3 times but only won once so it's time to even things up.

Also hope that those not watching but visiting shows enjoy them, there's not much that would make me miss Wycrail but.....

Well it’s a long time since I’ve we’ve been up this early! Sheila wishes to thank you all for the supportive ‘ticks’, but she’s very still nervous. 

 

Breakfast been eaten and I’ve just administered Sheila pre-op eye drops and once she’s finished in the bathroom we’ll be setting off.

Morning all from a temporarily dry Charente.  That is due to change later.  Not a good nights sleep as every time I started to drift off another bloodsucker started buzzing in my ear. They are getting in through the French windows as the builder is cutting tiles outside.  Never mind the bathroom is nearly done.  

 

Anyway the nurse has been, we are both up an breakfasted, the fire has been rejuvenated, unlike me, and we are getting ready to watch a certain match.  Randon though.  How many satellites will the signal have passed through before it reaches us.
