RMweb Premium 45156 Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 1, 2019 Morning All Just caught up, and generic greetings are on offer. Writing class this morning, then another visit to the bank of non existent IT service (aka Barclays), then pick up 30747 from work. But before that a walk for Lily, and a little hoovering. RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 1, 2019 Good morning everyone It’s a bit wet out there, but thankfully the rain has stopped. The first of the recycling has been collected so the second will be here any minute. I’ll retrieve both bins when I go out later, yes it’s Friday so that means a trip to Asda, the Trafford Centre and the butchers. But as we are once again having a guest, Sheila is staying in just in case Ava arrives whilst I’m still out. Other than that there is not a lot going on here, but at some time today, Ava and I will finish making the fruit tea cake that I left soaking overnight. Enjoy the day, back later.
Popular Post BlackRat
Had a pleasant few hours helping the grandson make a pumpkin lantern, then printed off some spooky colouring sheets which we had a go at whilst answering the door to the local sprogs....all of whom were suitably attired. Busier than last year, apparently the 'rule' is if the house has pumpkin lanterns, decorations etc then its ok to knock and get tricked.....or treated. Being good eggs we treated them all......and luckily plenty of sweets were left over for Gramps and the boy.

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted November 1, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. When I hear of these people who have died before reaching retirement age makes me glad that I was able to wangle early retirement. This in fact was one of the reasons for my decision to take early retirement, I saw many of my former colleagues carry on working right up until they were 65 and very few if any made it to 70 whereas those who took early retirement are still with us and they retired before I did not far short of 12 years ago. On to other things, travel this morning in the Orpington area is chaotic to say the least after a serious accident involving two buses and a car, the car driver has been arrested. A mini exhibition taking place in Wickford tomorrow at the Salvation Army citadel, parking could be a problem as its close to the town centre/Saturday/end of half term. 11

Sadly it is true that those who retire early tend to live longer but this is also influenced by the fact that many who can afford to stop before 65 are likely to have been in roles that were less physically demanding and were also likely to be higher paid - hence in part the normal levels of reduction in pensions that were applied in the private sector defined benefits schemes for early retirees. 3 4
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 1, 2019 Major system with loose Nuts, now Cross Dressing checking, Boss happy about that, as we have a visit from UKAS next week, and he's doing a quality manual (which has been re writen) Audit today. So I'm now doing the previously broken and adjusted unit, when it shouldn't have been adjusted. This means I have no reference previous results to compare against, so I have to be very very carefull getting the results right. Although I observed many rugrats wandering around Tes &co in their highly flammable clothing, we living out in the muddle of Nowhere had no visitors . Therefore no pumpkins where harmed in the process, although I saw a couple in pieces on the roads in Norwich on the way in this morning..

RMweb Gold Popular Post roundhouse Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted November 1, 2019 Morning from a damp Surrey. At least last night stayed dry as we made our home form the local beer fest. What a good afternoon and evening that was especially bumping ot three old Croydon MRS members from years back when I was a member. Good days those were. Then an ex work colleague arrived as planned and we also got chatting with someone sitting next to us who had travelled up from Seaford. Been in the shed finishing the headlight wiring on another brass loco. The nano LED had been coated in canopy glue to create and insulation seal before inserting into the brass headlight enclosure Still need to finish cutting the weight down then it can all be reassembled. A few other locos put on the test circuit to make sure the airbrushed matt lacquer hasn't got onto any pickups / wheels. No beer today but off for lunch with more model railway friends. Then off to mums nearby before picking up other half form station this evening. Tomorrow will hopefully be Tiny rebel Brewery in Newport, well Rogerstone but quicker by bus from Newport. that's all depending on how bad the weather is when we wake up in the morning with heavy rain and high winds forecast. 19
tigerburnie
Morning all, well the rugby went as predicted and I hope it will tomorrow, England won't get a better chance to win the World Cup again for a while. We have drizzle and cloud, no wind to blow the clouds away, so it will no doubt be wet all day, might go into town for a wander, apparently I need a hair cut, never really got into doing that as I did go 25 years without having it cut when I was younger lol.

The Lurker
Greetings all from LBG where the sky is attempting to drizzle with a fair amount of success. I went to the pub last night so didn't see any Hallowe'eners but Younger Lurker reports that none called at home. This means the "emergency" bowl full of chocolates and sweets will be shared between him and his brother. I don't remember anything particularly for Hallowe'en when I was a kid, although bonfire night was an excuse for games like apple bobbing and eating toffee or toffee apples. We never had fireworks, but someone at the church had a farm out of the village and large numbers of us traipsed there for a show. This involved walking down the Black Path (which ran down the side of the railway, parallel to the SE mainline and the remains of the Hawkhurst branch) and then over a footbridge. Schoolboy rumour had it that the path was haunted by someone who had killed themselves jumping off the footbridge and under a train. I always blame Peanuts for turning Hallowe'en into a Thing in this country - that's where I first saw it, Great Pumpkin and all!
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 1, 2019 Hmm The two sections that use the major systems that I calibrate have just ordered 3 more.. That's 3 * 6 Calibrations per year, * 3 days each or 54 man days work There are 9 others of that type already or 162 man days work plus 4 systems (of two types) every 3 months or 36 man days work That's a total of 252 man days work There are just over 100 Current shunts at a half hour each every 3 months. That's 27 man days There will be 14 10 G Ohm resistors at a half hour each every 3 months that's 4 man days There is 20 1 G ohm resistor at 20 Minutes each almost another 4 man days There is another 20 1 G ohm resistors in one box so that's another 4 man days there are about 30 other resistors 20 minutes each every 6 months say 3 man days there are 5 resistors boxes every 6 months giving 6 man days. that's 48 man days total total 300 man days Plus assorted other shrapnel.. there are 104 man days weekends and I get a total of 33 days off. RMweb Premium Popular Post AndyB Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted November 1, 2019 Afternoon all. Rather unexpectedly I ended up in A&E last night. Badly grazed eyeball as a piece of hard plastic hit it hard and fast from a very short distance away. So no chance to blink. The medics have said it'll be bad for several days. TBH I feel lucky to have kept my sight. Another casualty in A&E had had acid thrown in his face by youths trying to break into his home.

I am probably now preaching to the converted after the rather sudden and unexpected shock of that happening, but you should invest in a couple of sets of safety glasses, and quickly get into the habit of using them! They are no good if they are hanging on the tool rack just looking the part. With my eye history, I always wear them when using any form of garden or workshop machinery. 9 10

Popular Post Ian Abel
Morning, POETS etc. Yesterday a decent Happy Hour pre-choir rehearsal and an interesting rehearsal. We're apparently trying something NEW this year at the Sunday remembrance services, picture this - note: the choir is around 70+ mostly older and/or retired age personages; We will process down from the risers at the beginning of the service, and stand lined up either side of the main aisle. The lights will go out, there aren't any real windows to speak of in the hall we hold services in, so it's pretty dark, THEN candles will be lit at the front of the line either side and we will light the adjacent candle AND the candle of each parishioner next to us in each row. Try picturing that many old duffers WITH FIRE and music sheets in their hands - what could possibly go wrong... I think we should alert the fire brigade, but my suggestion was dismissed Today, much activity here chez Abel; We have a company coming to clean the gutters and install gutter shields on the house A contractor is coming to paint the porch area Jemma is back over to drop off Whitney and her car and I'll be taking Jemma to the airport The evening remembrance service starts at 7 outside in the memory garden - expected to be -2 and possibly light snow/rain! Other than that, a quiet day -4 getting the newspaper, forecast for 2 as the high and some rain/sleet/snow possible later in the day, only a dusting expected at most. RMweb Gold 81C Posted November 1, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted November 1, 2019 Thanks Wales more money in my pocket the odds were carp which was obvious didn't expect such a wide score gap. Dog walked and fed earlier he's off to be weighed at the vets this afternoon to see if he requires an increase in his daily food intake. better get my man bag sorted for tomorrows show ear plugs will be the new items to go in. Tomorrows game will be who can batter who off the field first, just hope our second row can do another good job on stemming the opposition like last week, I'm sure we will hear GDB screaming all over Southern England and if the clouds turn blue over Sutton Towers we will know if we are loosing or not. Enjoy the game tomorrow I never watch a RWC final as I always bet on it . 11 2

That's certainly the main reason for me retiring 15 years ago at 55, saw too many people I worked with not lasting long after 65. My health problems at the time also had a bearing on it. 5 hours ago, Kingzance said: Sadly it is true that those who retire early tend to live longer but this is also influenced by the fact that many who can afford to stop before 65 are likely to have been in roles that were less physically demanding and were also likely to be higher paid - hence in part the normal levels of reduction in pensions that were applied in the private sector defined benefits schemes for early retirees. Mine was certainly not a physically demanding role but mentally more so which is what contributed to my health problems. I wasn't exactly highly paid for what I did and took quite a hit on my pension by retiring early. The only reason I could afford it was that my Dad had left me enough money to clear the mortgage and leave some in reserve. Best thing I've ever done though. And Good afternoon all, Morning visit and task completed successfully. Got back about noon and watched the rugby, shame about the result but not unexpected. Went for a walk which took me past the surgery and dropped in on the off chance of getting a flu jab and only had to wait about 5 minutes. Carried on walking past the barber's I used to frequent and dropped in for a haircut as there was nobody there except the barber(ess)? and her daughter. "Hello stranger" she said, "Long time no see." She was pregnant last time she cut my hair and her daughter is now 5 so that's a few quid I've saved. (About £900 by my calculations - interestingly she's still charging the same price, probably because there are 4 other barber's within about 5-10 minutes walk)) When I got home The Boss (who has been cutting my hair for the past 5 years) said "What's wrong with my haircutting then? " "Nothing dear, just thought I'd have a change for once and save you the bother." Can't win, can you? Time for a muggatea and a biscuit or three. 12 2
