Good morning everyone 

 

It's another sunny start here in the northwest of England but cool, 5C is the temperature according to the weather app. I'm going to make use of the sunshine and take the internal cellar door off, take it outside and give a good clean and sanding before applying a new coat of paint.

One of the first things that dawns on me (eventually!) is that, with the clocks going back, I lose an "extra" washing machine cycle.  We have Economy 7 which is great in the summer - out one wash in at night to finish by 7.00am the next morning.  Get up, empty said load and put in second load to finish by 8.30am - though only once or twice a week, I might add.  Finish time on E7 is now 7.30am!   So, when am I up that early?   Hmm. Better plan it to meet those early appointments "they" tend to give you...not that I have any at the moment...dentist is not until sometime in 2020.  Hairdresser (whenever) lunch time...Optician (imminent)...pm...

 

Good news...I can now send my rather old fleece for recycling - I managed to get a nice soft replacement, yesterday, in Betws-y-coed.  Last week they just had a couple of fleeces but the arms were way too long and no cuff to keep them above the hands.  After failing to get an alternative from other stores, I went back and saw they had a new lot in... the sleeves are a bit long but hey!  I have them folded over.  No probs!     Just the job out in the kitchen when it gets chilly or lounging on the sofa with laptop...  

 

Yes, some of us do read this stuff.....

Plan is to get out and cut down the forsythia.  Yesterday, I could not find the loppers in the garden "toolbox".

"They are inside the grass bin". Ha!  Now he tells me!  At the time he was out!  

Try again...when the sun comes round...

At least I will be sheltered from the wind.

Ah!  That is the windbreak...! Oh!  Not for long, then!

Morning all from Estuary-Land. Happy anniversary to Ashers and Dudders and happy birthday to Jamie. It looked as if it was going to stay dry this morning but it looks as if there has been a shower. ChrisF's mentioning of bread pudding set the taste buds salivating. The least said about my attempts to produce bread pudding the better. At least it was an improvement on some of the cardboard that certain emporiums try to pass off as bread pudding.

Raining here.  Aditi has gone to Brentwood for a haircut. 
I have lots of things I could do but I don’t seem to be doing any of them. 
I have just had a call from Southend, my CT scan is booked for Thursday this week.  All seems very efficient.

We found that Heinz ketchup in the US was not the same as in the UK. The US version is far sweeter to the UK palate - along with most things including bread

Greetings all from LBG where it is cold and grey and trying to drizzle in a most unforecast way.

 

Happy Birthday, Jamie, and congratulations to Ian and Sherry (and thanks to Baz for reminding us!). Thoughts too with John as he continues to sort through the belongings and the memories.

 

Work is getting very hectic as year end piles up with other work. But it can only go on so long.

 

Mrs Lurker and Younger Lurker have gone back to school. Elder Lurker has another day's lurking in his room as his school has an inset day.

 

Not a lot else to report from here so have a good day all

A happy day to Ian, Sherry and Jamie. A dry but cold day in North Salopshire with an icy car this morning as I set out to visit the GP then do some shopping. This afternoon SWMBO has taken the small pink terrorists to get some stuff (I'm not quite sure what) to do with Halloween and then go round to my Dad's place so as they were getting ready to leave I thought, 'Hello, a chance to slip into the workshop for an hour or so.' As they were heading front doorwards, though, SPT 1 said, 'Will you make us one of your chocolate cakes please granddad?' SPT 2 indicated that the idea had his backing too so I'm now waiting for the cake to cool before applying the icing. No 3 throw point making today I fear. I have, however, just sat down with a muggocoffee and MRJ 274 so all is not lost.

Been sat in A+E since 11:30, got a lump in my face that I should have had removed/drained last week but the surgeon had a couple of doubts over it so delayed the procedure until I had a fresh MRI scan, they took a sample of the ‘goo’ inside at the time

 

anyhoo I think it may have become infected as the lump, which was soft and almost moveable has gone very hard, impossible to sleep on and I can feel it has spread toward my ear and jawline causing me to have mild headaches and one ear feels quieter than the other

 

the nurse who took my blood has had a look and has put a Canular in my arm to save further needles as they may need to do something straight away, I may be lucky and get away with antibiotics though until it can be scanned and removed as planned

Nothing to report at all from yesterday, although the first of what will probably be several deliveries of exterior lights for the Christmas/holiday illuminations has arrived. Planning on adorning several trees with lights at the new place here...

Still "negotiating" for an entire reindeer/sleigh exhibit on the roof, but that's mostly a pipe dream

 

Only activity on the calendar today (other than work of course) is retrieving Jemma from the airport this evening.

EDIT: We keep meaning to get fly flu shots, but forget, maybe we'll remember today!

 

-4 and felt quite nippy getting the paper this morning, 5 and overcast most of the day is the forecast.

Afternoon all from a grey and misty part of France. It's 13 here. Much has been done including the Dr's, pharmact, lunch out, Beth to the hairdessers, then the supermarket,  pharmacy again and now a mug of coffee.  I have indeed comp,eted another solar circuit today so a bottle of bubbly is in the fridge. 

 

Thanks for the good wishes.  Niw time to speak to you g Emily who sent me my first Grandpa card.

And happy celebrations to those who, for whatever reason, are entitled today.
 

New baseboard supports duly measured, manufactured and installed, thereby removing an unsupported drop of some 5mm that will ultimately be hidden by a harbour wall and a small paddle ferry. Some improvements to the power distribution systems also completed whilst I was under there. The Hermes delivery lady has been - bang on time - with my order placed Sunday night with Lighting Direct for two outside lights. That is service I have to praise and it seems they were designed and made here too!
 

The lentil and vegetable broth has turned out quite nice but will need more chilli to make it last. Ian the fish didn’t have my first thoughts on board today so it will be a ray wing for me tomorrow and a fish-based paella tonight. SWMBO has been into The Apple Store at Cribbs Causeway and might be tempted to let them fit a new battery in her old I-phone. As it’s a 5s, I don’t think it is worth it because software upgrades and support is now quite limited but she “doesn’t want anything bigger as it won’t fit in my pocket”. At this point, I become very sympathetic with the likes of 81C and any who dare to give an honest answer to the question “does my bum look big in this?” (Ducks behind any nearby obstruction capable of providing protection).

This afternoon has seen a session out on the driveway cutting mdf skirting boards and architraves for the little bedroom that was once my office. (They will be installed as per the recommendations of 81C of this parish)

 

Mdf is foul stuff to cut as the dust seems to get everywhere, and it's not good for you.  I use it because at least you can assume that it is reasonably straight!  Most timber you get from the DIY sheds could be utilised as frames for bow sided coaches

 

I had a mask on plus the portable dust extractor running, which makes a big difference.

 

Being a total cheat I used the old skirting and architraves as patterns for the cut, only to find that one of the door surrounds was about 15 mm longer than the other!

 

Yes, when I checked the door frame is not quite squared off.

 

It will be interesting to see what the door is shaped like when I take it off to replace it.

 

As an aside of the 7 doors i replaced downstairs, all of them had to be skimmed down to make them fit the frames.

 

Why can't builders adjust the frame size to take a standard door?

 

The more I look as the work of so called professionals, the less I am impressed.

 

I suppose it boils down to time spent on the job.  In the time it has taken me to fit out one room, they would have done the whole top floor.

Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. I have too many magazines. I am gradually disposing of some of them but others will stay. Problem is the clouds of dust thrown up when I move them, a sure sign though that its time to get rid of them. Dinner now to be prepared, be back later.

Not content with offering me live-in domestic support yesterday the junk mail fairies have today been giving me details of services on offer at a local Hospice.

For their information I'm not thinking of slowing down yet, what's more I've got a big kit stash to build, half a dozen cut'n'shuts waiting to be finished and donors for another six in to drawer.

Meanwhile as the sun was shining I've just been out with my bike to do the Anglezarke hillclimb near Chorley then after lunch the climb from Rivington Lower Reservoir to the top of Rivington Pike. Total climbing for the day about 1750 feet.

There really is no answer for that one   Not sure about the UK but you can buy a door here complete with the frame and hinges. The building's rough framing is supposed to be a bit oversize. You just need to shim the frame to fit the aperture. A spirit level is a good thing to have too but a lot of builders seem to have never heard of them.
