RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 Morning all from a rather damp Charente. Lovely to see the pictures from New Brighton. My father grew up there and as a youngster had a flight from the beach courtesy of Alan Cobham's flying show. I think he was about 10 I think. Anyway the nurse has not been tet but the builder should arrive soon. He is due to start tiling today. The trip to collect the lawn tractor went well and it is safely in the shed. A nice new to me toy for me to play with. Regards to all. Jamie.
RMweb Premium Popular Post Dave Hunt Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 Morning one and all. White roofs in North Salopshire too this morning together with fist and mog. Woken at silly o'clock by the small pink terrorists who SWMBO tells me now want pancakes for breakfast and apparently I have been appointed cook. I've negotiated half an hour for muggocoffee and prising the eyelids open properly but that's over now (in fact it was over a while ago according to what I'm assured is a reliable source) so tatty bye and enjoy your day. RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 Good morning everyone The only roof I can clearly see from the kitchen door is the workshop and that’s white. All the others that are normally visible are obscured by mist! The sun is trying to clear away the mist, but temperature is -1C according to the app on my phone and by the chill in the air, I can believe it. Breakfast has been consumed and I’ve vacated the kitchen so that Sheila can get herself ready for her Zumba class, once she’s gone, I’ll head back to the cellar and continue working on the new shelving. Back later.
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 Good morning from a chilly part of NEHerts. Well insulated roofs and cars not exposed to the first rays of sun were covered in frost as I made muggertea No1. Builders are definitely getting later on parade but I still cannot understand why they erect the shell of so many houses, add the roof trusses and then fail to cover or tile the roofs. One structure has been in the same state since the grandkids broke up for their summer holidays and only the Lord above knows how much water has fallen onto it since then. Were I in the position to do so, I would caution every potential buyer! Browsing through posts from my last visit, I note the Floridian bus Was numbered 9911, any coincidence? It was good to see that, if the vessel beached in New Brighton actually was The Black Pig, the local council has ensured there are no stains on the surrounding area. Late yesterday evening I received confirmation that the replacement lamps I had selected were a suitable replacement for the broken ones at daughter and son-in-law’s so that will be a task for tomorrow or Wednesday. Otherwise, not too much is scheduled for the next few days although, thanks to the invention of the cursed mobile phone, I am sure SWMBO will give regular changes to the peace and relaxation that I had anticipated and almost planned. Ah well, time the hearty man ate a condemned breakfast - or whatever. 20
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 (edited) Good morning all, Frosty start here and we were awoken at 6.00am by the sound of ice being scraped off one of the neighbour's cars. Can't complain as I used to do that at 4.30 when taking The Boss to work although I tried to do it quietly. Sun now shining so ice is melting. Today I will be in The Shed. This may (or may not) be a good thing. We shall see. However, some breakfast is required first. Have a good one one, T.R. RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 Good morning. It is rather sunny here. Today I have a telephone appointment with my GP (discussion about blood test results) and then a trip to Basildon Hospital dermatology department for a skin scan. This isn’t as a result of my noticing anything unusual, but one of my medications carries an increased risk of skin cancers for “older people” so this would just be routine too I suppose. Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from a rather chilly boring borough. No frost on the pumpkins but bloody cold out there. Currently showing as 4c. A grand day out on the Bermondsey beer mile was had on Saturday with visiting brother and SiL. They are off doing touristy things this week and attending a wedding next weekend. No doubt there will be a few beery evenings along the way. The Ring camera and light for the alleyway paid for itself last night. Just after 12 some scumbag triggered the light and video recording. He was having a rather too close look at the neighbour's car. A quick blast of the alarm and he did Usain Bolt proud. Recording forwarded to the local plod but doubt they will be able to ID him. The knee has been up and down for a few days. Really bad yesterday but likely I over did the walking on Saturday. Stiff and swollen today but far less painful. Still waiting to see the specialist. Meh. That's about all from here. Coffee is calling. Enjoy the day. 18

Till I retire... I'm not counting am !? Retirement was something I expected when I reached three score years and five. My employers, whom I had served almost valiantly for 32 years, decided they wished to get rid of the specialist engineering team based in the U.K. They offered me a job in China which I, at 58 and with an existing heart condition, thought was them extracting the urine. Had I gone early and taken my pension, I would have lost 35% of that so I left and made enough of a living doing what I had done for the until I could draw the full pension. I am sure that retirement actually slows you down as - five years on - my days are generally too full of dealing with “things” to do what I had planned. Just ensure you build up as much of a pot as you can before your Benefit Crystalising Event as actuaries like to call it. 7 4

I assume that neither the police or theCPS feel that low level crime is worth pursuing, particularly as no crime was seemingly committed. We are a society teetering on the brink of collapse into lawlessness, given the efforts that are made to excuse illegal behaviour by the do-gooder fraternity and the culture in parts of the legal profession to see if they can get compensation (and an inflated fee) at every roll of life’s dice. 5 13

Yes, that obviously has a bearing and with the level of violence we now have, it must be very difficult to attract new police officers. As for judges, their sentencing varies seemingly as to whether they like the defendant. How much of that is due to prison overcrowding I do not know but the MoJ figures suggest that one third of the U.K. prison population was not born here so why are these criminals not ejected? My wife recently was a juror on a murder case which lasted almost six weeks but could have been dealt with in half that time if defendants had been available / lawyers had their papers / printers in the courthouse worked / cases started each day earlier and lasted later than the 10:30 to 3:00 average which also had an hour for lunch. When sentencing, the judge was clearly outwitted by the younger defendant who viewed his sentence of 18 months with 6 of those suspended as a great outcome from the gestures he made as he was taken down. And that after a man’s life was taken in an event in which he had played a very active part, as he did in the deceptions to attempt the subsequent cover-up. He could have been sentenced to seven years as the tariff for that offence but will be free to cock a snoop at the law in six months. Is it any wonder people feel the law is an ass! 3 4

One thing I did when I retired was to see what each of the companies who held some of my pot would offer in respect of annuities if I moved all the small amounts to one location. That did rather well for me but I first had to request a value of each little pot at a near-term future date. 13
RMweb Premium Popular Post southern42 Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 28, 2019 ' morning all from red dragon land. One of the first things that dawns on me (eventually!) is that, with the clocks going back, I lose an "extra" washing machine cycle. We have Economy 7 which is great in the summer months - one wash in at night to finish by 7.00am the next morning. Get up, empty said load and put in second load to finish by 8.30am - though two washes only once or twice a week, maybe, I might add. Finish time on E7 is now 7.30am! Yikes! Will I have to be a REAL ER...? Better plan it so I only need to do ONE wash a day...Hmmm...in winter?...with all those extra woollies and stuff...? Good news...I can now send my rather old fleece for recycling - I managed to get a nice soft replacement, yesterday, in Betws-y-coed. Last week they just had a couple of fleeces but the arms were way too long and no cuff to keep them above the hands. After failing to get an alternative from other stores/online, I went back and saw they had a new lot in... slightly different style but the sleeves are a still bit long but hey! I have folded the cuffs over. No probs! Just the job out in the kitchen when it gets chilly or lounging on the sofa with the laptop... ERs (NOoooooo not MRS...!!!??!!!) comes to mind... and YES, some of us do actually read this stuff [unquote] - I guess.... Why not indulge yourselves in something nice and soft and comfy...sheer luxury... _________ Best wishes Polly 21

RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 28, 2019 Work continues on the GOG small Layout competition entry. I suppose I ought to sort out some pictures, but these modern digital camera phones do not seem to do 'low res' pictures any more. A couple of snaps I could have posted were all above the RMWeb limit. Perhaps I'm looking in the wrong place, but there doesn't seem to be a simple facility to do this on the computer any more: I'm sure there used to be a facility to create lower resolution pictures at the click of a button. I'll have to dig out my old digital camera, which has a selectable picture file size and try again. Muddy Hollow (Forward) is now down to paddling depth which is fantastic for a bit of churning. No white roof syndrome in this part of Telfland, so a return to the garage to do some more cutting, gluing and cramping is required, but only after i have visited the doctor's surgery to chase up my new prescription. Normally I would just check on line, but as I am down to five days supply of the old stuff, I don't want to order another 30 days supply, and then waste most of it when the new one arrives.

Popular Post Sir TophamHatt
Started off at 4°C this morning, but went down to a chilly 1°C by the time I arrived at work. I heard something but didn't expect ice. I hate scraping at 6am and as I didn't put the blanket on the screen then it meant using the last of the spray, which did clear the ice but then I figured out after driving for about 5 metres, that there was loads of moisture on the inside of the car. Luckily I was taking the window vac to work to charge (first time in months, so wanted to keep an eye on it). Cue me sucking up the water from the inside! Not a bad morning though, have lots of films to watch this week (I get a lot of spare time at work!). ANNNNDDDDD I have minimal jobs to do at home today. As I played trains with the Nephew yesterday, I'm back in the modelling mood for sure!
RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted October 28, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 28, 2019 WARNING - SCAM ATTEMPT I have just lost most of this morning dealing with an attempted scam and the reporting thereof: A call from a withheld number came in on our land line. The caller said that he was a Sgt Greene based at Charing Cross Police Station. He stated they had in custody someone who claimed to be my nephew. The said nephew supposedly claimed to be my carer and he had a significant amount of money on him, which he claimed had been given to him by me. The next question was to ask if I had been to a cash point recently (which I had a few days back). He then told me to look on the back of my bank card and I would find a contact number there which I should call immediately. I was somewhat reluctant to do this and so he gave me his badge number and a crime reference number to report to the bank. Of course when he said not to hang up but to dial the number on the back of the card, I became sure that this had to be a scam. To pose as a police officer is a criminal offence but I tried telephoning 101 to speak to my local police, only to find that the caller had kept my line open for his fraudulent purposes. I then tried calling my telephone service provider via my mobile phone and got them to run a check and clear down my land line. Once again, I tried calling 101 but after 15 minutes with no reply, I followed a link to Action Fraud - a government service possibly operating out of somewhere in Scotland. A further 30 minutes in a queue and a lady answered, took a log of all events, decided it should be reported and then gave me a proper crime reference number that I can follow later. She also advised that I should keep an eye on my credit rating using a firm called Credit Karma for the next six months to ensure nothing untowards or unknown is entered! This was clearly a more sophisticated attempt to get me to divulge my details. Please be aware! 3 5
