RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 26, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 26, 2019 (edited) Good evening everyone Well the rain finally stopped falling sometime mid morning, I was too busy with the girls to notice the exact time. Below is the result (although there is a bit missing) of this morning’s work in the kitchen. All who tried a piece were thoroughly impressed and by the time Vickie and Ian had had a piece when they picked the girls up we were down by about a half. Once they’d all gone home, I made a start on tea, moussaka was tonight’s meal of choice and it went down very well, especially with a nice glass of Malbec. I’ve yet to watch the GMRC yet, I’ll probably catch up with it tomorrow evening, when Sheila is doing her nails! Neil (NHN) have you been tested for gluten intolerance, Vickie was diagnosed with celiac disease earlier this year and prior to that she was constantly tired and lethargic. Goodnight all. The ones with extra sugar that they sell in the UK. All ours in the UK have had the sugar levels reduced.. they are still far better than the rock hard tasteless ones served up in the USA. A lot of food in the UK has seen reduced sugare (and salt) levels over the last few years. Seen as a "must do" by successive governments. Not sure it has had a major impact on childhood obesity...yet! Baz 1 12
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all I have exchanged e-mails with the maker of the missing frets. He is Ralph Robertson of Palatine Models and the frets, if ever assembled, make up into 57 ft underframes for LMS coaches. It is no exaggeration to describe them as state of the art and for a long time I was scared stiff at the prospect of assembling them. Perhaps I still am! I am due to meet Ralph on the Saturday of the Manchester show. This week I watched the latest instalment of “Eating Well for Less”, which is a programme that I normally avoid because Gregg Wallace is IMHO one of the most obnoxious people on television. I was drawn to this week’s episode because it featured four Bristol University students who were finding it difficult to feed themselves healthily and make ends meet. Gregg and his sidekick came up with a plan and the ending was happy. I could not help recalling what I know about my e-friend Harry’s student days at Bristol. Without resorting to a part-time job like the boys featured in the programme, he got his groceries from Marks and Spencer! How ostentatious is that? From something he told me while he was still at school, I suspect that what in my student days we called a parental contribution was involved. You may well say “more money than sense”. I could not possibly comment, save to observe that he had plenty left for designer tops and alcohol. It is, as they say, all right for some. I spent most of yesterday writing the first draft of my Christmas message. It is due to go out, with my seasonal greetings cards, at the end of November. Last year I had a lot of explaining to do and the letter ran to three and a half pages. Things are more straightforward this year and the finished article should occupy a mere two sides. It might be an idea now to buy some more cards … The news that the Europe timetable change is on 15th December is not the best. If, as is widely supposed, the train ferry to and from Copenhagen finishes then, I’m shafted, for I have neither the time nor the money to do it before then. Oh well, such is life. I suppose in due course Seat 61 will be updated to reflect the position and tell us how we get to Denmark by train without the ferry. Best wishes to all Chris 1
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 27, 2019 Mooring Awl, inner Temple Hare, I be had around 6+1 hours sleep, that was good, I would have had more But Ben the Alarm clock Collie hasn't yet been reset. Cold damp and breezy out there. I do have to start moving now though, I'm on rescue boat duty for the dinghy and keelboats open on Black Horse broad. This always coincides with the last weekend before the broad being closed for the winter.. I also have to return the trophy as we won the keelboat part last year.. Time to go put the kettle on. 19
RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 27, 2019 A bright day begins at KZ Towers and the sparrows have clearly been feeding on baked beans. I am unable to determine if these were of the low sugar or the low salt variety. Clearly my body clock is in dispute with the state-run one that is telling me it is an hour earlier . Plans for today? Well, first to create a muggertea, then make myself comfortable to see how The Boyos do against The Boks. If red beats green, next weekend will probably see SWMBO and me watching in different rooms and me with headphones on, or I could go down the pub! After the semi-final, I need to finally check our larger car’s fluid reserves and tyre pressures before madam heads off for a few days to spend with her widowed sister and I can have free reign in the kitchen. Later there will be some small and fast vehicles to follow as they speed around a high altitude race track in a Central American state that is yet to get a wall on its northern boundary. It appears that my daughter is yet to decide on the style of outside lamps required to replace those destroyed by over-zealous kicking of a football by younger grandson or organising the wardrobe to be assembled in older grandson’s bedroom. I may therefore have a little time to play with miniature things - why are you sniggering at the back? 3

RMweb Gold grandadbob Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2019 Good morning all, Not raining and it should be a fine and dry day with sunny spells. After yesterday's early dose of rugby I decided that that wasn't enough so watched Gloucester dismantle Wasps 25-9 in the afternoon. Today there will be more of the same where I'm hoping (unusually for me) to see Wales defeat South Africa and after lunch Leicester take on Saracens. Bacon and eggs etc have been offered and will be gratefully accepted shortly. Watched the GMRC and saw a few shots of a certain Stationmaster doing some photo-bombing. Will you be charging for autographs Mike? Have a good one, Bob.

Surely, "state of the art" should mean sophisticated design leading to easier assembly? A bit confused by your last paragraph. Very easy to get to Denmark by train. I think that you are referring to the Rodby-Puttgarden train ferry which gives a more direct route to Copenhagen from Germany. 9 2

RMweb Gold roundhouse Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 27, 2019 Morning from a sunny Surrey. The ferry is being replaced with through trains via the longer but almost as quick Oserund link (if I have spelt that correctly) consisting of bridges and tunnels - one route that I have yet to do. Do check the start of the Winter timetable ChrisF incase I have got that wrong. We watched GMRC but after a long day out on more I dozed a few times towards the latter part of the programme and thats probably when Mike was on!! 16
RMweb Premium Popular Post 45156 Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 27, 2019 Morning All Sorry about the unannounced absence, but I no longer post anywhere when I'm going away - even here where my real name and address are not known - but insurance companies would take some convincing. So if there is anything that I should know, could somebody please PM me so that I am up to speed. So where was I - well, at the beginning of the week, it was just pressure of time, LASAR twice to cover a colleague, then on Wednesday off for a pre-booked trip to Shropshire and Herefordshire, returning yesterday - yes it rained (and rained and rained), the weather warnings were only issued a day or so before we were due to go. And we had to return yesterday morning - it was still not fully light when we left, and we were driving quite slowly, when we hit a patch of DEEP floodwater on the A49 just before the Onibury level crossing between Ludlow and Craven Arms (at least I got a railway reference into the story) - I was doing about 35, and the water was not really visible - lost the steering as I hit it, rapidly got the speed down and the revs up, and PRAYED that I'd get through - luckily I did - thanks SEAT - your cars are quite resilient, the Peugeot would certainly have been stranded. Got to Craven Arms, and I was shaking so much that I had to stop, and we decided that we'd rather be late than stranded or dead, so parked up on a garage forecourt until it was light. As we progressed up the A49. we saw some pretty p!ss poor driving, like the Merc 4WD which came from behind us as were queueing to go through some floodwater, then overtook two vehicles who were slowly negotiating the water at the correct speed - drenching both vehicles in the process. Then we had to contend with some very bad driving on the M6 where I set the cruise control to 50 and sat in lane 1 - probably the slowest vehicle on the road - HGVs doing a lot more, and clowns in Lane 3 who must have been doing 80, but it was difficult to see them, as their spray and that of others was obscuring the view of lanes 3 and 4. But we got home, it took an hour more than normal in actual running time, plus the stop at Craven Arms. I was totally cream crackered by the experience. Back later/tomorrow. RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 27, 2019 MOrning. Bright and breezy sur le rock, just breezy internally. Extra hour has helped a bit. Coeliac has been dismissed Brian, but thanks for the thought. Sleep clinic next if the drug exchanging doesn't prove anything, to see if what feels like a 'reasonable' night's sleep, isn't. Waiting list is so long I'll probably be dead of old age first of course!

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 27, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 27, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. Had an extra lie-in/soak-in this morning. Probably much the same next Sunday as it usually takes my body clock a couple of weeks to adjust. Bright and sunny out if a tad chilly but at least it keeps Arthur Itis out of the way. Tea to be poured so its be back later.
