Popular Post Simon G
Evening all, i havent posted here for quite a while now for a variety of reasons. There have been some domestic issues and also some significant bust-ups at my local MRC. Hopefully these are all now behind me and mine, so I can start to see a better path forward. The MRC issues had been brewing for a quite a while, as the club premises had a flight of 25 stairs to reach them. With our age profile, a number of members found these stairs difficult, and we were losing member as a result. The landlord was unwilling to fit a stairlift so we started to loom for alternative premises. Committee meetings got increasingly fractious with some people verbally attacking the chairman in an unnecessary way, so he sadly resigned and left the club. I had tried to act as peacemaker but with little success. we then found new rented premises which required some work before we moved in. As I had other issues and also put many hours in as part of my role as treasurer , I declined to participate in the work. Another committee member took exception to this and started making snide comments, until I called him out and had an argument in which he was threatening physical violence! Eventually he calmed down and apologised, after a number of members told him he was well out of order. Things have since settled down, and we moved premises last weekend. It will take a while to reassemble all the layouts, but at least there is a way forward. With all that going on, I rather lost my modelling mojo, but hopefully it is returning now. Perhaps I will actually manage to get my own layout operating this winter, something I have been meaning to do for the last 3 winters. At home, we are currently doing some major redecorating after we had a number of walls replastered, as they had always been pretty poorly made when the house was built. I find the painting quite therapeutic as it happens, but it does seem to go on for ever!

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 22, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 22, 2019 MRC politics are as bad as the real, sorry, Westminster ones, Simon. The gobby ones never do anything to actually help or constructive of course. Been there.....don't do clubs now. 11 1

Popular Post Ozexpatriate
Greetings and salutations to you all. I've been away for about two weeks and haven't caught up on the doings of Early Risers (with the exception of one significant passage). Being, for now, a gentlemen of some leisure, I will catch up, but probably not today - the larder needs restocking, I have prescriptions to collect and I shudder to think how many Christmas season catalogues have accumulated for me at the Post Office. I did not bring a laptop with me and even though I had my telephone with me while I was away I had little time for, and little high bandwidth access to, the internet. It was nice to catch up with family - long, long overdue. I will leave you with a couple of photographic clues (taken using my telephone) to my whereabouts. A nice view. A railway connection A storm passing out to sea. More beach. 26

brianusa
You will be happy to know that the usual hordes of catalogues are being delivered by USPS; one can only hope your mail box is big enough, ours has to be emptied very day! The train looks familiar - Hitachi or some other brand of the newly minted Emperors factories which seem to be everywhere these days! It certainly is not large enough. I put a hold on my mail. I expect to come home with as many as two of the standard tubs used by the USPS. 12 minutes ago, brianusa said: The train looks familiar - Hitachi or some other brand of the newly minted Emperors factories which seem to be everywhere these days! Honestly, I've not kept up. I suspect it is one of these - apparently made by Bombardier in India. (It is a Bombardier unit.) RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 22, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2019 Evening all from Estuary-Land. Something I have been thinking about for some time is leaving my body to medical science. On the BBC breakfast show this morning there was a piece on just that. I carry a donor card but at my age I doubt if they'll find anything useful when I leave this mortal toil, whats not worn out has had more than 70 years of abuse. Of course I will have to consult my family first before I make a commitment. 13

This is practical, generous and, I think, noble. Spiritual concerns aside, this is a more useful legacy than simply disposing of the remains. Cadavers are still essential to teaching anatomy and surgery. Having known medical students, my only concern was related to the sophomoric silliness that medical students can get up to.

Popular Post Smiffy2
I popped over to the neighbour today, and we went through her father's photographic gear. Three large, rather damp cardboard boxes stored in the barn... One had a whole family of mice which waited until we put our hands in the box to make themselves known! There was an enlarger and 'computer' for controlling it, loads of developing tanks dating back to the 50s (I took four Paterson System 4 off her hands and a load of spirals), thousands of stainless steel film clips, glass plates (never found the field camera they belonged to, the Canon that there was an instruction book for or the 120 camera which we found the negatives from. Presumably he converted them to cash when he went digital). Loads of old photos from when he was a jobbing snapper, cuttings from newspapers and a Spurs programme - oh, and an Ian Allen ABC for the Eastern Region c1960! So an interesting haul, then time spent washing and reassembling the tanks. I've now started to amass a processing set for France, and I've brought out an old scanner. So much easier than a darkroom... Thanks for the nice comments about the foggy morning picture - I just snapped that from our bedroom window with my phone. This is the view out the back.

brianusa
Lovely sylvan view, rather like Edward G. Robinson experienced in "Soylent Green", with Charlton Heston and very appropriate in this age of global warming. Tomorrow the contractor is coming around 09.00 so its up early for us. He's going to renew both decks, which means a lot of lumber arriving with appropriate noise and upset. Our cat will not be thrilled! RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 22, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 22, 2019 Good evening everyone This morning’s Sainsbury’s Grand Prix went as I’d hoped, as there wasn’t the hordes of school kids and mums that I’d expected to see! I got back before Sheila and I’d almost finished packing away all the goodies shopping when she got back. Once I’d finished I made myself a muggertea and sat perusing the latest BRM as I drank it. It was then that I was informed that Shiela had decided NOT to accompany me to pick up the click and collect packages, yippee! Once I’d finished my tea I set off and was back in the house in just over 35 minutes, and yes I did keep within the local speed limits! Once the contents of these packages were checked we had some dinner. After which I again read until it was time to get my swimming gear packed and ready for my 5 o’clock dip. The roads to Salford Quays were very quiet (school half term) so I got there a lot earlier than expected and found that I was the first one to book in tonight. The water temperature was just over 14C so it’s really starting to feel cold now, but there are only 4 more swimming sessions (of which I’ll do 3) left until it closes for the year. I think it’ll be really dark next week after the clocks have changed! Once home, we sat and had tea, a hot bowl of potato, courgette and cheese soup served with some crusty wholemeal bread, then it was off to the living room to catch up on some recorded TV with a glass of ‘Old Speckled Hen’ Goodnight all
