Yesterday at the Chelmsford show my friend made an unusual purchase. A box of track including two points, what was so unusual was it has a wooden base. Its 16.5mm gauge and marked Tenshodu. The box it came in which looks as if its the original has an illustration of US locomotives and stock and appears to date from the 1950's. Had a long lie in and soak in this morning and I've got things to do so I'll be back later. Tenshodo is a model railway shop just off the Ginza in Tokyo. Ground floor is a high end jewellery and watch store with rest of the building being dedicated to model railways . The shop is well known for their brass models but also sell models produced by other Japanese brands. Used to spend many a lunchtime in the shop when I was living in Japan. Didn't see much UK stuff there but they did have loads of Roco and LGB. There was also an excellent pre-owned shop on the top floor covering everything. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2019 Marquee framework up,..... Except for one bolt . It is of course right at the peak retired to to sofa at the moment with aching shoulders and neck. The wind finally arrive about an hour ago, so they'll be whizzing around the course now. I think a large medicinal Amber liquid is called for.. Bye for now. 12
RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2019 I think the power to weight ratio that SA had to offer put paid to Japan. A great game though, although I always seem to back the losers............ Which is why I don't gamble! Now a serious question: Do the (ex) rugby players within ERs feel that both the English and French performance this weekend were somewhat enhanced by their long rest due to their last match against each other in the pool stages being cancelled? (That's not a gripe, just an observation.) I think I now need a large glass of Penderyn 2012 Grand Slam single malt to calm my shattered nerves. 18
tigerburnie
I think England were a little shy of match speed because of the week off, however, the rest might show more in next weeks game where if they are close in the last 20 minutes they could get away.

I missed yesterday's games and highlights due to a meeting and concert, and was at church during our game. Just saw (most of the) second game. RMweb Gold Popular Post The Stationmaster Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2019 Afternoon all, Tesco has been shopped and the sudoku awaits. remarkably small quotient of idiot shoppers today considering the place was so busy but some of those conducting their motor vehicles around the route to & from the shop undoubtedly made up for it - the first two fingers on my right hand were becoming tired from over use. Today' prime d*ckhead mobile being a Range Rover the driver of which not only cut across my bows me leaving a petrol station but then drove towards me on the wrong side of the road, beats me how these people manage to extend their lives by as much as 24 hours? BTW I forgot to mention the other day that the town is clearly suffering some sort of economic crisis as a nail bar has closed down, that means we now only have six of them left to serve an expanding population. Enjoy the rest of your day one and all. 3 3
RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2019 (edited) A'noon all, Tired of Sutton here. Didn't get to bed until 2.30am as we went to a party last night and then I was up at 7.30 to watch the rugby. Squeaky bum time for Wales and a shame but not really surprising result for Japan. The 30+kg advantage the Boks had in the forwards told in the end. I suspect the extended rest for England & France certainly helped with anybody carrying knocks from their last game (like Billy Vunipola) The Boss is watching recorded dancing of the strictly variety at the moment but I'll shortly be reclaiming the big TV for Wasps v Irish. "Haven't you watched enough rugby this weekend?" said she. "No dear, there will never be too much for me" Sayonara for now, K.N. Ackered. RMweb Gold Happy Hippo Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2019 (edited) Well, I finished the Penderyn and now have that warm glow of success! Not from the rugby I hasten to add, but by getting a Templot drawing done, printed out and stuck together. I need to be careful, because if I were to start another bottle (Irish this time) I might be foolish enough to be putting my name forward to enter the GOG small layout competition. It's a balance between being fresh or being battle hardened, as I said elsewhere, the accumulation of fatigue could stack up against New Zealand next week, wheres England may be better physically, but is that enough to influence the result?
Popular Post BlackRat
A wins a win......I'll settle for that. Nice show in the 'Diff, more about meeting old club mates and a few trips down mammory lane. RMweb Gold Popular Post Kingzance Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2019 And a good afternoon to all, commiserations where necessary, best wishes to our brethren who are suffering and supportive thoughts to those coming to terms with a period of loneliness. Next week's rugby should be interesting (to say the least). Much as I would like to see an all-Northern hemisphere final, I fear that may not be the case. We went to the village hall last night for the quiz. A few cans of Green King IPA and a few mini-bottles of a Sauvignon Blanc didn't cause any issues for me or SWMBO, nor did the (somewhat small but) reasonably cooked fish and chips. The quizmaster is something of an old curmudgeon and takes umbrage when an answer is challenged so I was careful not to be identified as one of several who did that! I did however start the evening commiserating with a lady who's house sale process fell apart last Thursday. It turned out that this was an excellent thing to do as she was responsible for gathering up the answers and adding the points scored, leading to the final result. Would you believe it, we won! Now far be it from me to suggest there was any fixing, or to question her mathematical skills, but I didn't think we were ahead of the team placed second. That they also questioned the quizmaster never entered the equation of course. As for the prize - we winning team members all got a pen with a name printed on the side! SWMBO's vehicle has today been cleaned by a reasonably efficient bunch of Eastern Europeans at a new location following the closure of two nearer similar businesses. This was necessary as the old banger is going in for an MoT Test next week, including two new tyres on the front. Elsewhere, it would seem that SWMBO is now up to date with the efforts of sub-minor celebrity prancers as she as informed me that I can (more likely should) watch this week's GMRC episode before our evening meal (a rabbit casserole for which she has meticulously followed the Good Food recipe thereof). I quite fancy a long G&T to accompany my televisual experience so, back later... 19
RMweb Premium 45156 Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2019 Afternoon/Evening All Not a lot to say today - finally got Barclays IT to spew out a statement after about a week of outages - wanted one a couple of weeks ago when in Totnes, and asked where the Barclays branch was, to be told "Paignton" (8 miles), "but it used to be where White Stuff is now" - ah well. Well well indeed - was in Grange Over Sands on Thurday, and that is one of Barclays opening days there - only the bank is now shut with a to let sign - as is Lloyds, as is NatWest, and HSBC is now a Costa coffee shop - another community with no banking presence - well of course, you can use the Post Office - well with Barclays you can til the end of the year, as to save a few quid, they are withdrawing the facility (presumably so the directors can get larger bonuses). Rant over Generic greetings, nice to hear from Pete, and great to see Debs looking so good, and in possession of that pawkish sense of humour - it has been sorely missed round here, and with the amount to sad and bad news around, it does help greatly. RMweb Premium Popular Post Gwiwer Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2019 Afternoon all. Not the finest of days here with most joints refusing to perform as required - at least not without some hesitancy and discomfort. There is Arthur Eyetuss in the family and it is probably my turn to endure it though I suspect some of this might relate more to an acquired germ. Lower back pain has been associated with the onset of sneazles and weazles before now. It came and hasn't fully wented just yet but things are slightly better than they have been for much of the day. No further contact from Former Neighbours (Upstairs) which comes as no surprise. They would have been tired last night, had pre-work work to complete today and might have been suffering from overhangs hangovers as well. The day has been slow and quiet with nothing much to report other than the refusal of a substitution by the supermarket delivery service who "upgraded" my chosen bottles of Red Laughing Water to some costing more than twice as much. Thanks but no thanks. It's only there to wash down the evening meal and a couple of pills. That's my story anyway. Either way I returned what they offered and wandered round to the corner shop where I purchased a couple of perfectly good bottles for less than I would have been charged by the supermarket had my original order been fulfilled. It's time to sacrifice a cluckbird and some veggies. I'll see you some more later on.
RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 20, 2019 (edited) And relax. An afternoon working on the, er, thing in the garage that isn't motorbikes was half successful, but the furthest away point motor won't throw the relevant point in the fiddle yard - investigation showed muggins had picked up a sprung base, which together with the O Gauge sized spring in the point is all too much for the solenoid at the end of a looong wire despite a CDU. Now where can I get an unsprung base from? Oh hang on..... It'll have to wait, not going all the way to work just for that! (edit - just knackerise the spring in the one you have Neil). The rest of track laying and decoder fitting went well, undisturbed as the boss was out doing field archery. Badly. Unusual as she's a crack shot, it was just one of those days, and the guy that usually loses was on a roll! Wooden spoon trophy was awarded, hers for a whole fortnight until the next shoot, displayed with pride in the lounge. RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2019 (edited) Bunny consumed - it was a little on the dry side but Tempranillo made a big difference (or the large G&T that preceded it). TV is on inn the lounge where someone is ensconced watching some spare parts in sequins get voted on. That will be followed by another of her "favourite delights" and then probably another so I feel stirrings to do something with some bits of plastic in the form of Diagram O13 once supplied by Parkside but now originating in EX12 3NA. I just need to find the jigs to hold everything square... As to red falling down water Rick, I order a certain style from an online supplier with a limited high street presence that has regal leanings. If I order 6 bottles, even 6 different ones, they will deliver free of any delivery charge. That may not be of benefit if you aren't around to receive them however. RMweb Premium jamie92208 Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 20, 2019 Red falling down water is in plentiful supply here. 3 miles away with a hosepipe and nozzle in the wall. I will be attending in the morning with two 5l boxes that need refilling. €1.70 per litre and very drinkable. As to the 28% beer at $210 per bottle, 20 year old Cognac at 40% and €24 per bottle is also available. A plum crumble was made by SWMBO today despite her mobility issues. My provisional cooming licence is obviously safe from an upgrade as I am in trouble for serving us quarters instead of 6ths of said crumble. Personally I can't see a problem. RMweb Gold Kingzance Posted October 20, 2019 RMweb Gold Share Posted October 20, 2019 Dear muddling friends, A while back I saw some right-angled magnetic clamps that were small enough for 4mm construction and strong enough to work with card or plastic but, as is the way with my mind full of other things, I cannot remember from whom they can be purchased. I have tried the normal tool suppliers and internet search facilities without success. Can anyone help please?

pH
Watched the news item on Quantas's 19 hour New York-Sydney flight, and wondered what the endurance of earlier aircraft would have been. I looked up maritime patrol aircraft, since I remembered reading about patrols of 15 hours plus. From that, I got on to this: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Double_Sunrise which was quite something! Tiny payload, though. It also explains the origin of Quantas's (them again!) kangaroo logo. 4
