RMweb Premium BR60103 Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 6, 2019 A trip for lunch in Mennonite country today. We were stopped for a steam powered train crossing the road. Inquiry revealed that they will be running steam again on Thanksgiving Day so we tried to get tickets. Neither of the stations we went to seemed to be staffed so I had to go online tonight. 17
Popular Post chrisf
Good morning one and all Breakfast with the LGBT group yesterday was quite good fun, though I was on my own for a good hour before anyone else turned up. I took my leave in time to get to the Corn Exchange for opening time. I soon discovered that my head was in a bit of a mess, having managed to lose my bar tokens not once but twice. They turned up, of course, but not before I had got myself into a bit of a tizz [is that how you spell it?]. That is not what the beer festival is for: it is for sampling diffent beers and interacting socially. By mid afternoon on Saturday the range of beers was becoming steadily depleted and the tolling clang of hammer on aluminium keg ever more frequent. When I began to feel alone in the middle of a crowd, not that there was much of a crowd, I knew it was time to go. That is not a feeling that I enjoy and I do hope that it is not a harbinger of something more serious. Don't blame the beer, by the way. If I get a minute today I might look a bit further into the idea of a train trip to Marrakech, suitably encouraged by Mike Stationmaster. It sounds daft enough to be true and for that reason it appeals to me. It's not an option at the moment because I don't have the spare cash! My festive season trip to Switzerland becomes ever more costly but I don't mind too much because I am in predominantly good company and it gets me out of the UK for Christmas. Something else I don't have is a pool of potential travelling companions and I am envious of those who do. Mostly I quite enjoy my own company but there are times when the presence of a kindred spirit would be oh so welcome. There may be words in ears over Xmas. There is much to be done today. Grubby garments need to to be laundered for starters. I also need to find a box of bits which might just contain one that will be of use to Flavio. It would be a good idea to load the car ahead of Tuesday's visit to Poorly Pal but it needs to stop raining before I will even consider the idea. Best wishes to all Chris 5

RMweb Premium Popular Post jamie92208 Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2019 Good morning all from a grey and cool place only 13 degrees. The nurse has been and had a coffee and an Eccles Cake. We had great fun sorting out what currants are and where Eccles is. We will be off to the market for shopping and further coffee shortly, via the chickens who need to be let out. Unbeknown to Beth her schoolfriend who lives near Limoges is going to visit today alo g with her lovely golden retriever called Teddy. We are due to have lamb chops tonight so 2 extras are thawing out in the shed. As Margaret will be here I might even manage some time in the shed. I need to sort out where the metalwork vice is going to be fitted on the bench. It was rather rusted up from being outside for 6 years but WD40, oil, grease and brute force and ignorance have managed to get it freed up and even the ratchet is working. Regards to all. RMweb Premium TheQ Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 6, 2019 Mooring Awl inner Temple Hare, A good nights sleep, 7 + 1/2 hour. I've been out on patrol with Ben the sprinter collie, he spotted something down the garden and shot off chasing. I didn't see anything. When I got down there, he lay down looking unhappy, and then came over for reassurance before laying down again. After doing his stuff, we came back to the house. He's now curled up in SWMBOs chair still not happy. It's cold wet and windy out there, puddle size indicates we've not had a huge amount of rain but that could change. A quick inspection of the trailer hard top was made, I think I'm going to reinforce the entire door opening with 2x4s on the outside. This will also allow heavier duty hinges. I've also noticed the screws holding the hard top clamping battens onto the trailer , are pulling through the ply. I'll have to get a lot of penny washers or find some other way reinforcement. The kettle has sprung a leak, so a new one will have to be decided on. I'm feeling cold, tired and exhausted after the last few days, other than putting the trailer back in its proper parking place. I'm not intending to do much today. I have the modified jib sat next to me, I may just sit here and sow the new seam. I have a sailmakers Palm, needle and thread ready. RAF radar stations were also almost entirely wired in pink ptfe wire, a nightmare if you need to trace a wire in 7ft high racks of equipment, across a 100ft square building full of these racks, when you find the wiring diagram in A.P. is wrong. For Tiree I've fitted a red / black heavy wire buss bar to connect the track droppers to, having removed the many sections used for train detection. The original builder used multicolour ribbon 36 wire cable to distribute the signals around. With a dozen power supplies and two control panels for a 12ft by 2ft layout, things were exceedingly complicated. This I simplified for Harry who bought the layout from the original builders sister when he died. Since I inherited the layout a couple of years ago, I've decided once the scenic rebuild is done, I will completely rewire, it's already down to just 3 PSUs. Ben has hidden in the cage, it's just started raining again. Time to ... get a Muggacoffee using the the mobile home kettle.

RMweb Premium Popular Post New Haven Neil Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2019 Mornid. Stid fud of code. Feeling a bit crepe. Also persisting down, so a day of not a lot I suspect. Mrs NHN is off to her field archery club early, to install the bridges made from old ladders and planks I constructed last week, then no doubt to hit targets lose arrows for the afternoon. Look dry further south where the club is, on the rainfall radar. Whereas here it is under the red it. Bleah.

My first teaching post was in a science department. The biology department had lots of animals, including a large tank of African clawed toads. Unfortunately over a weekend the thermostat must have failed and all that was left was a sort of toad soup. Our new lab technician started that Monday. Her comment to biology teacher when asked to deal with it, “this wasn’t quite what I expected when you asked if I minded working with animals”. RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 6, 2019 Morning all from Estuary-Land. It sure bucketed down last night but now its dry. But for how long? I still have the lurgy so last night was a couple of Lem-sip capsules washed down with a drop of rum. The result was 7 hours solid sleep. I feel a lot better but the lurgy is still lingering. Thats it for now, be back later. 2

RMweb Premium BSW01 Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 6, 2019 Good morning (just) everyone A bit late on parade this morning, we both slept in so must have needed the rest. It was raining earlier this morning (6:30ish) but the sun is now shining. Anyway, breakfast has been consumed and muggertea No2 is almost gone, so I’m heading to the workshop shortly. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 6, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 6, 2019 A'noon all, Late riser here, possibly something to do with having a couple of friends here to dinner last night and following that up with considerable amounts of falling down water, although I didn't. (fall down that is) Got to bed about 2.45 and didn't get up until 9.30 which is very late for me. Great night though. Some rugby watched yesterday and this morning. Didn't really enjoy the England match although the result was of course the right one. Thought Argentina did well considering they only had 14 men for most of the game. Most entertaining game for me was Japan v Samoa. Scotland will need to be at their best next week. My layout? trainset wiring is fairly basic but I use red and green for bus wires and droppers. (port and starboard going clockwise) Works for me. Points are operated on the KISS principle so so far I have used a "pointy" finger. I will probably continue to do so. Have a good one, Bob. 15
