RMweb Premium Popular Post Barry O Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2019 Ey up! Task number 1 for today is to get the heating sorted. Other tasks including a spot of indoor cricket umpiring have already been handed out. Very positive thoughts to all who ail. Baz 15

It helped lift my mood. We're now at the bottom of our short cold spell and the interior of the house has been gradually getting cooler. Inside, it's now about 19°C (up from 17°C this morning) and I've successfully resisted the urge to turn the heat on. A fabby day here too (are we allowed to say that?) If tomorrow is nice I'll take the wee car out for a spin, just to exercise the oil seals you understand. But I do have a legit excuse. A couple of plumbing bits are required to install a pressure tank under the stairs that should, in theory, eliminate the annoying water hammer in our plumbing when neighbors run their computer controlled appliances in the middle of the night. The way my knee is acting up I might have to get an apprentice to crawl in there to install it. MrsID seems to be the only suitable candidate. It's possible she'll need some education in the use of a plumbers knee-wrench. 2
RMweb Premium Popular Post TheQ Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2019 Mooring Awl, inner Temple somewhere, Not such a good nights sleep, probably because of the extended eyelid inspection earlier. Frost... Yep frost out there, the grass isn't crunchy but it has a surface coating of white stuff. Avidly watching Carol on TV, Lorenzo is due in tomorrow, we need to be east of the Pennines before he arrives. Looks OK for a 08:00 departure. Plans for today, breakfast part 2, IE a Muggacoffee , inspect ex hole in wall, final touch up of Wall if required, later walk Ben again, followed by some local shopping. Then not a lot for the rest of the day, Time too.. Put the kettle on. 13
Popular Post Debs.
`Morning E.R's.....although that description rather excludes me at the moment. The forecast: it sounds like more rain; looking up just now, the ceiling is still heavily overcast with annoying light pushing in from the blinds, expected soon. 21
RMweb Gold Popular Post Tony_S Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2019 Morning all. Pleasantly warm here, then I went outside to put some rubbish and recycling out. There is a notice attached to the lamppost outside our house about a missing cat. I don’t think it is in our garage. Aditi is going to a lecture about George III and his art collection this morning and then will be visiting someone to get the French Circle’s accounts approved. Have a good day. Popular Post AndrewC
Greetings all from the boring borough, where the only culture around here is when the Yakult van spills its load. Bit of sad news from the offspring. His lady's mum passed late last week while we were away. It's been hard on her especially as she didn't make it to see her mum before the second stroke hit . They're also in the middle of moving from London to Carlisle. He's spent most of the last 5 days taking the National Express to/from London, Carlisle, Barnstaple, etc. Her dad is supposed to be bringing a van on Friday to load up their crap and we're taking the offspring with his fragile "tech" up there on Saturday. It'll be a good drive for the Disco but not looking forward to the rest of the social interaction. Work projects are like the 96 bus. 6 came along all at once, but 2 went out of service, and one is terminating early. I'm going to be time juggling for the next 3 months it seems. Not a lot else happening at the moment. Coffee is calling. Enjoy the day.

RMweb Premium Popular Post BSW01 Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2019 Good morning everyone The sun is shining, the sky is blue and there are very few clouds in the sky. It’s cool though, around 4C, Vickie has just popped round for some rosemary and mint, which I picked fresh from the garden. These are for the men’s lapel flowers, which she is making herself and will be worn at her wedding tomorrow. Right, back to normal, I’m off downstairs to carry on working on the pullout drawer, back later. 20

tigerburnie
Morning all, nice and bright out, but quite windy, so no frost, clear blue skies with rain not predicted until tomorrow, not sure what I will do, but must get away from the 'puter as my finger keeps hovering over "buy it now" buttons on some rather expensive muddling items, see ya later, have a nice dayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy

Popular Post The Lurker
greetings all from LBG where it is sunny but distinctly cooler than yesterday. Auditors - it's great fun having them in and seeing if they can follow what it is that you're telling them. Especially as I had to do some time as an auditor as part of my training, the best part of 30 years ago. They don't know that you don't know they don't understand, but if you steer them in the right direction, they can write down the right answer. If they keep coming back, you can play the aggressive card. "I've told you this already, why are you bothering me again?". I also have a large red tick on a word document for when they get really persistent. "Just tick it" as my old audit senior used to say. Occasionally you spot something isn't quite right and the skill then is to steer them away from it and correct it while they're not looking. If they have a good manager they'll be sent back to look at that bit and lo and behold it will now all make sense. When auditors join the dark side and become a company accountant, particularly in tax, you often hear "but you can't do that!" then followed by a quick demo that indeed you can do it very easily because most of the tax number in the accounts is a series of more or less accurate estimates ….. it's when you get to the tax return itself that precision becomes paramount . 15
Popular Post Ian Abel
HUMP day, hopefully downhill from here. Yesterday, nothing of note client-wise (well, reports, reports, reports!!!). On the home front, Jemmas boyfriend just got accepted to Delta, no training/start date yet, but at least he made it in. He's a great guy, but I'm afraid his ego would have been eternally bruised if he'd not made it after Jemma did! Still a LOT of work to do on the "equality" front I fear, and setting better expectations/level playing fields for women and men... 20 and partly cloudy driving in, expecting a 30+ high, unusual spike, followed by a forecast high of only 15 tomorrow Tally ho. 19

RMweb Premium PhilJ W Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Premium Share Posted October 2, 2019 Afternoon all from Estuary-Land. Still no model railway club but we should be able to go back next week. I hope they've levelled up the floor properly, the part that had subsided was noticably sloped as you walked across it. RMweb Gold Popular Post grandadbob Posted October 2, 2019 RMweb Gold Popular Post Share Posted October 2, 2019 (edited) Evenin' each, Just realised I didn't post this morning - been busy. Mixed news re our friend Jane. Not a heart attack but another potentially serious problem so she is being kept in hospital for a few days for more tests. In other news I've spent time in the shed and started to work out a track plan. Not Quite sure the purists wouldn't like it but I just want to play trains! Wire and solder and cork have been ordered but no track yet. Still sorting through the stuff I salvaged from the old layout but after a close look some will have to be binned. Some of the points look like I lifted them with a pick axe. No rugby watched today and I forgot to record it! It's past beer o'clock so I will return later Edited October 2, 2019 by grandadbob 5

Popular Post trisonic
Just an update on Lorenzo. Looks like it will make landfall on the west coast of Eire and start to diminish immediately. It then makes a nose dive in the general direction of South Wales and then will head east. By then steady winds of 50mph and gusts of 65mph will prevail. Both the Met Offices of Eire and the UK seem to be downplaying the most dangerous aspect of this storm, the size of it and wave heights. Large wave heights are very long lived and they are still feeling the effects in Florida, 2,500 miles away from storm centre (mostly today in relation to undertows). Currently the mean average height of waves is around 50' with maximum considered to be 100'. Whilst no one is expecting such heights in the UK itself they could be 25' on average with rogues considerably higher. Obviously these will affect coastal areas. If indeed it angles down to south Wales that means the onshore winds will from the south or south west in the English Channel. Winds run counter-clockwise in Hurricanes/Tropical Storms. Lorenzo was measured this morning to be 1,200 miles in diameter - it will remain large as it diminishes. Be careful around these coastlines and on high peaks inland due to wind. I forget the formula for increase in windspeed per 100' of altitude but in these storms they are significant. Best, Pete. 3 3
